Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Do you mean you reinstalled the full 800mb release?

after doing reset all settings, i have the following results:

    photo.PNG

this is with wifi and 3G always off unless i need it.

also, this was with about 10 minutes of calling and a few messages and using a couple of apps.

I'm hoping to get 3 days out of this with around 4-7 hours usage.

Now i understand true luxury - buy something expensive and don't use it. How long can i resist without it, hold it in my hand and just look at the battery %? It is like the privatier watch for 100k without clockwork.

there is no hate of apple.  only bitter disappointment at the silence, while this thread has over 607,000 views and over 7,000 posts!  which in my experience is unprecedented.  we just want apple to say something, anything, so that we know what is going on!!!!!

Yes, I reinstalled the full 800mb firmware. When I had the 5.0 everything seemed ok (just ok, worse than my old iP4 though). One day I saw a 20% decrease during an 8hour sleep.I decided to update to 5.0.1. OverTheAir to fix it.But it did not. So I reinstalled the 800mb firm ,set up as new, reset network settings and now I think I'm ok (but I am not thrilled with the battery life, because my iP4 was better). Today I slept for 8-9 hours and the battery dropped 8%.Not perfect. Then when I started using the phone the battery drops rappidly sometimes (1%every 1-2 minutes),sometimes not.Anyway now I have 45% left with 3,5 hours use and 1 day and 1h stby.

But to be fair they did say that on 11/11:

“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices. We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

Plus their Terms of Use for the forums spell out:

"6. Apple involvement. Apple does not formally provide technical support on the Site. However, any information that is provided by Apple or Apple employees is offered on an “AS IS” basis without warranties of any kind."

With no settings disabled, my battery lasts about 10 hours. Unplugged at around 7 and I'm at 10% battery left right now. Half the battery drained away on standby and the other half drained away in this past hour with usage on mail, safari, Facebook, games/apps, etc.

Based on a call with Support advisor ... this is what I was advised (BTW, the customer support person was trying to help but also said that I was the first customer (that she has handled to date) expecting Apple manage the multitasking of apps efficiently (meaning actually kill the process after you move away or atleast provide a user configurable timer)

Apparently ... Siri, iCloud and Bluetooth are not big battery consumers

But it is advisable to sparingly use - Email Push, WiFi (turn off if you are not using), Location services, Roaming.

    Also, activley manage multitasking.

I found out that Apple is hoorible in multi-task management. Just beacuse you moved away from the application does not mean the process is killed. You ahve to do this manually. I saw a graveyard of processes that apparently were still alive. I am talking about apps that I launched when I first bought the phone 15+ days back.

    My rant:

I wish I wrote code at apple, I would get my bonus, a paycheck, great campus, great stock option and a bunch of users who are willing to solve the problems on their own. Unfortunately, in the real world (rest of the 99% of coders to borrow a metaphor), I would be fired for being sloppy and providing a horrible customer experience.

If Toyota Prius had built a car like this all the consmers would be complaining. Since this is a wall street darling, the conumer is at fault for daring to expect a better phone.

Why do people keep trying the nonsense that 1AppleADayNoWay pushes?? He obviously loves thinking that thinking he's Apple's spokesperson. Newsflash: HE'S NOT!

Just likie I said over 200 pages of posts ago, you'd STILL be here, trying this nonsense, with ZERO fix from all this garbage you're telling people to do, and LOOK, I was right!

You bashed & insulted me 5 ways from Sunday and LOOK, I was right, you're still here, with NO FIX from you!

HAHA, I love it! Vindication is such a wonderful thing!

People, SAVE YOURSELVES from bashing your heads against a wall, LET APPLE FIX IT because YOU CAN'T!

And if they don't fix it to your satisfaction, GET RID OF YOUR iPHONES & get something else!

I wrote it over 200 pages ago and here you STILL are! Get over it, you can't fix it!

    Go outside, enjoy life!

But watch, you'll still be here another 200 pages from now ulling the same nonsense. Hopefully Apple fixes it though so people can be done wasting their time with your lies.

You're such an idiot. I never came up with any fix in here. I don't do "fixes". davich and others came up with some best practices and all. You're so clueless. There are many levels of issues, and in some cases the phones need servicing and if someone is not satisfied he can return his phone - on the other hand, some people get different results when they try different things. People are not waiting for me to find a fix. You're only making a fool out of yourself here, like you did before...

You're the type who's about authority - and shouting. You can't really accept that I stood up to you. You were telling people to "be more productive", that Apple would have nothing to do with people that can't assemble a phone of their own. Now it's "go outside, enjoy life". So go. I mean, you're a condescending snob. You deserve to be in your little corner.

I don't need to take you down, you do that of your own...

This thread is becoming hostile. Attacking each other, this is now having to do with personal issues and character. Please, if you dont have anything good to say, and your intentions arent to help with the cause that drove us all to this thread, dont bother to reply and save us all the trouble. This isnt a therapudic thread to help with anger management and team building.

Oh, surprise surprise, another rash of insults! How noble of you!

First you want from me stating facts and trying to turn that into me abusing everyone on here and ABSOLTUELY disputing every word i said that nobody would be able to get their phones to work properly here.

Now you write, "best practices" crap! Give me a BREAK! best practices?? Your best practice is to linger on Apple forums, berate, belittle and insult those who simply say to sit back and relax rather than wasting their time.

You are in NO position to determine what are "best practices" for Apple, in-fact if you went to them with that nonsense, they'd laugh you out of the building. I KNOW, I'VE BEEN THERE in this position dealing with wanna-be, know-it-all fools like you.

    Hahaaaa, so transparent.

Come on, what other insults can you send my way?

By the way, YOU'RE STILL HERE WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME!

    GOT'CHA!  hahaa!

464 pages of discussion with no result. everyone is trying hard, and I wonder how you can spend so much time next to your job.

I have a 75 hours week job, and when I spend 1000$ on a phone, I expect to have a full functionning one. So indeed it's Apple's responsibility to fix it because if they don't we are going to turn our back from them, buy Bb (which by the way I got from my employer, works extremely well and has an autonomy of 4-5 days with all gears on) and make Apple's reputation so bad, that shareholders will also sell their stakes.

So if Apple gives a damm about getting a nice bonus by next year they better come with a communication and a fix.

I understand how you feel as 4s' battery life is incredibly short. I am in Japan and bought one two days ago. I feel I do not get anything except an useless device after spending hundreds of dollars on it. Everyday I check my iPhone just to look at battery percentage. Obviously, my life is being ruined by apple. People like us should take action to demand apple compensate victims like us and tackle this problem in a much faster manner. I cannot bear apple any more and my emotion is influenced negatively by iPhone. And now I think apple is not far from bankruptcy and we all can tell that from the terrible battery life of iPhone 4s. Smartphone without a good battery is nothing as you can do nothing with it.
