Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

IPHONE 4S BATTERY PROBLEM SOLUTION AND DISABLED CALLER ID BUTTON SOLUTION

    =======================================================================

Hi, I absolutely confir. Since I got my new iPhone 4S the battery drain is high, sometimes it goes 10% per hour or more. Badly can last a day. I had the original microSim from Vodafone Ireland. I also have an old HTC windows mobile with a normal Vodafone SIM, I decided to use a tool to cut the old SIM and place in the new iPhone, now the iPhone consumes 15-20% in a day and was amazed that the HTC used all the battery in less than 12 hours with the newer micro-SIM. So I'm absolutely convinced that it is a problem of the SIM's and not completely a problem on the iPhone or iOS 5, because I have an old 3GS with iOS 5 and an onld SIM and charge it only every 3 or 4 days.

Blame Vodafone and not Apple for the battery problems

Also found the solution to the disabled button to set the CALLER ID that was anoying me for weeks. Put the phone in Flight Mode, which disables the network. Now turn it on again and quickly go to the Phone settings and caller ID menu and the button is active, enable it before the phone picks the network signal again. It works beautifully and now the switch can be turned on and off any time. This one I think you can blame Apple

I was in the same situation, I'm on Verizion and my first 4s D serial # and drained constantly, standby and especially if I used. I tried all the "fixes" posted here and it helped some, but not much. My second phone C serial # seemed better but not great, even after all the "fixes' posted here. At some point I just decided to use the phone the way I wanted to use it, llike my Iphone 4.

Some locations services on, some off

    WiFi and Bluetooth always on

Siri on , raise to speak off

gmail set up as an Exchange mail account - push on

ICloud mail - I forward MSN and Hotmail to ICloud and push iCloud

Usage - listening to audio books 2 hours per day for commute(audible.com), reading books (Kindle, iBooks, etc.), email, texting, internet, some phone calls (almost always verizon to verizon)

I have a fairly strong 3G signal in normal days travel 2-4 bars.

For the last couple of full charges, I've been happy, see below:

    iphone 13%.PNG

I'm concerned about the drain when I use the phone, and if my current usage/drain situation will suddenly decrease, as some users reported.

I don't beleive Apple will admit to any problem, at least until after the Holidays, if then.

I do appreciate all the time and effort of the people in this post who really tried to help everyone. I don't know what fix I did to make it better (at least for now), but I'm ok with my usage.

I hope Apple get's it together and tries to make it right for all of us who spent their time in trying to correct this issue.

If the people reading this thread have a quick look here, hopefully we can get Apple to help extend battery life.

Mine has improved also, unfortunately I have no idea why. After doing a full restore and limiting my apps, it was better for one day and then the following day it rapidly drained. I was in poor service area and figured that was it but it was not much better after that. For some unknown reason, the last week has been pretty good where it's almost as good as my iphone 4 was. Not sure what's going on but at least it seems more of a systemic or software issue vs a hardware problem. This gives me hope of viable fix once someone a lt smarter than me figues this out.

I have had nothing but problems with iphone 4s... first phone I had the echo issue and living in the country had to phone support...I have to admit support were very helpful but frustrating because I had to go through every hoop and possible fix before they gave me a new phone.

I got this new phone and I may as well just leave it on the charger...last night I thought I would do a test so I charged it and just before switching off my laptop to go to sleep I took it off the charge.

this was 1am.... by 10am the battery was at 16% and I had been asleep all this time so had no touched it.

my last phone did not have this issue and I had location services on with it...so it seems if its not 1 issue its another

Have iphone 3GS and 4, both with ios 5.0.1. Both get hot and lose battery fast. Also just found out from my telco provider that they've unnormally high data usage, some process keeps running getting external data.

I had 3s before 4s and the battery life was bad but it would last about a day and a half with some usage...I got iphone 4s and it still lasted over a day before needing a recharge unless I was using it excessively...it however had a echo issue and I had it replaced at apple store...the new 4s they replaced it with doesnt even last 10 hours without needing a recharge with absolutely no usage.  so why did the iphone 4s I had a week ago with echo have a better battery life with same settings on than this one does?

I purchased a 3GS the day it came out, skipped 4, and purchased 4S the day it came out. On my 3GS i could do so much - take pictures, email, text message, use GPS apps, make calls, you name it and my battery would last for quite a long time.

    My 4S *****.

I contacted Apple and they sent me and wife replacement phones. Replacement phones same problem. Contacted them again and they sent me another set of replacement phones. They suck too. I loose about 10% in an hour or so, with little or usage. Little usage might include checking the time/battery on the home screen, sending one or two texts, taking a picture or two. Same rate of battery drainage if it simply sits in my pocket unused.

I contacted Apple and told them I feel as if I had exhausted all options. They sent me a text that when I clicked on a link they were able to look at a diagnostic file that according to the tech indicated that my battery was "healthy."

Oh, and the phone gets quite hot to the touch. Quite often very hot without my using it at all.

Really starting to hate the **** phone.

It is just like that on IOS 5.0. Apple have fixed this problem in IOS 5.0.1.

If you would like to upgrade here is a series of photos (i got them of the internet so please do not blame be if they are different.)

Then cilck 'Download and Install' then confirm it, wait till it downloads, reboot your device and wallah! your battery is good again.

EDIT: There may be newer version of software. (5.0.2 not 5.0.1)

So after all it really looks like iPhone 4s has hardware issues.

It looks like Apple unofficially has recognized the hardware problems of iPhone 4s.

Quote: "As far as I know, Apple has admitted that the iPhone 4S is troubled with hardware-related problems and noise-gate is one aspect. Yet Apple still believes that this is not critical enough to directly deteriorate call qualities," added the official. The official also declined to be identified as he wasn’t given the right to officially speak to the media. from http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/tech/2011/11/133_99359.html

Also the static bug which is the noise one can hear from his iPhone 4s when there is data connection thru 3g or wifi might explain the high battery drain when there is data connection. The chip which produces that static noise just draws more power than it was designed!!!

It would be great of those who post here or read this could check if they are affected by the static bug issue too! This could help to see if there the static bug and the battery drain issue are linked or not. It looks like 80% of iPhone 4S are affected by the static bug.

In order to test if you are affected by the static bug issue do these:

    1) turn off the WIFI

    2) turn on the Cellular Data (3G)

    3) open Safari and go to a large web page which takes long time to load

    4) put immediately your ear (while the webpage is loading) to the back of your iPhone 4S where is the apple sign and listen carefully

If you hear a static noise then you are affected by the static bug which may explain the high battery drain.

I'm now wondering if the battery life is due to over expectation. To expect a phones battery life to be top notch after a couple of days is hardly right. I had wondered about the 4S and even posted on here, but after having the phone from elease day I can say there is nothing wrong with my battery now.

Last night was spent watching music videos and so on, but I still have %56 left.

Before I got 4S I had Galaxy S2, iPhone 4 before that. I don't know if any of you have experience with that device, but the battery life on that was shocking, after three weeks it had to go,

I'm happy with mine now with the only thing not running photo stream, as I have no need for it yet.

Looks like I have the static issue with my 4S too.

I'm feeling really disappointed with Apple over this. I've been a fan for quite some time now, and I'm really suprised at their silence over the battery issue and the length of time since the last update. My wife has also had problems with her 3GS since updating to iOS 5.0.1. It now has much shorter battery life, and the phone keeps resetting (5-6 times a day). Before the update it was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, her phone is out of warranty, so I'm not sure what I can do here.

My feeling is that there's a whole raft of causes of short battery life, but I'm pretty certain that some of them are down to bugs in the OS which I'm guessing Apple are really struggling to get to the bottom of. I think they should have made some sort of announcement by now though. If they're finding it hard to fix, they should say as much.

At the moment, as you can tell by reading some of these messages, there's a growing sense of real frustration, and this is going to affect people's perception of the Apple brand.

I'm typing this on my MacBook Pro, and even this is starting to lose its lustre because of all the problems I've had with Apple phones over the last month and a half!

I'm sure the late and great Mr Jobs would have handled this differently.

Out of interest - why is static noise considered a bug?
