Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

THAT IS RIDICULOUS!! What is wrong with these Genius Bar people! They keep saying these sensational things to us even though the engineers at Apple might be working on something. These Genius people need to get it together

I asked if it was normal to only get 18 hours of standby time despite the claim on the Specs page is 200 hours standby.  The Genius said 200 hours is under ideal conditions, and in the real world you should be happy with 10% of what Apple claims!

Nonsense, my iPhone 4 is able to withstand about 250 hours in standby.

I took some pictures of my Usage:

The following two pictures are from today at school:

This is just a few hours later, just under a half hour more usage:

This picture is from Sunday where I used my phone in my house only, on Wi-Fi only. As you can see, it is much better.

Go on the Apple website - click on support and then contact us ... there is a phone number (think you are in the States) 800-275-2273.

They were brilliant with me, I explained what had happened at the Apple store with the genius people, they are sending me a new phone and when I get that one I then send this one back.  They told me it sounded like a hardware problem.

FWIW--My battery drain had been similar to everyone else's (who is posting here) with my 64GB 4S over the past few days.  I have done at least two complete battery drains.  This morning I unplugged the phone (around 7 AM) and have only used it sporadically during the day (one or two phone calls, a handful of messages, and couple of peeks at the weather).  I have 3G, Wifi, and Bluetooth all on.  It's now around 6 PM and my battery is at 85%.  Waiting for the software update....

I was told from Apple support that the contact/feedback form is used directly by developers.

Black 32gb 4S on Sprint in Tucson, AZ.

I had been feverishly waiting for the iphone to come to Sprint after suffering for two years on a crappy Samsung Moment that wouldn't last 4 hours before running dry. I didn't care what the specs were, I just wanted something that would work and work for a long time. This seemed to be the case with all my friends with iphones, hence preordering the iphone at midnight on the 7th.

I am now seriously worried that I will be stuck with a phone for another two years that constantly needs to be tethered to a power source...  I have tried most everything on this thread, even though it peeves me to turn off phone features phone that are marketed as something you wil be able to use all the time.  These things include:

Turning off Location Services (totally off, not just certain apps)

    Disabling Ping

Disabling Raise to Speak on Siri

    Disabling Bluetooth

Disabling Diatnostic and Usage auto send (although I now worry Apple will not receive data that will help fix this problem)

    Disabled wifi

Dimmed screen to 30% (very dark for daytime usage)

Turned off Notifications to almost everything (except phone, messages, reminders and calendar)

Turned my exchange and gmaill accounts to manual (not push or fetch)

Basically, all this turns my brand new iPhone 4S into a basic phone that can play Infinity Blade really well (as long as its plugged in).  Charged all night and am at 18% power at 3:00 p.m. with taking a few calls, playing a few hanging with friends rounds, and texting a few times.  I am going to try the full battery depletion to full charge tonight, but based on a lot of feedback in this forum, I dont have a lot of hope for this.  Do you guys think this can all be solved with a firmware update from Apple soon?  If not, I will be first in line on Friday to make a switch before my 14 days expire.

Mate Iv had similar issues with apples customer service over here in the UK and they will always fob you off with some lame excuse !

Fact is if the phone is not running to the specifications they state they are ether misleading consumers (if a disclaimer is in place) or they are completely lying to them (if there is no disclaimer) but ether way this constitutes negligent behavior on their part if they are advertising a feature but then tell you to disregard this.

Depending on what country you are from I would check into your legal rights as a consumer as here in the UK under the sales of goods act 1979 you can legally reject an item that does not meet YOUR expectations even after the 14 day (I think up to 6 months after purchase) guarantee providing the product falls short of what you would expect when purchasing it. (must be done through the retailer & not the manufacturer)

The truth is there is enough people on this forum to argue a real fault with the battery or at the very least that Apple mislead us into believing that the battery life on the IPhone 4s would be better than the 3gs !

    Ether way check your rights.

I suggest deleting your email accounts and iCloud account, then re-adding them. It improved my battery greatly.

How do you do this (specifically your iCloud account) without screwing everything up?

location is on for weather, maps, facebook

    email fetching off

    time zone turned off

icloud turned on for bookmarks reminder

    bluetooth on all day

wifi on or half the day

    about 30 mins talk time

    100 texts

    twitter every few hours

    facebook every few hours

    i am at 65%

So i've been following this thread and here is what I'm seeing. I had a fully charged phone at 8:30 am PSt and it is now 3:21 pm, here is the odd part - it's been at 1% for an hour, on a call for 30 minutes and playing music for the rest. I have a feeling that the indicator is just not properly calibrated. Im gonna keep it on and continue making calls until it's dead and I'll report back.

I seem to recall something similar when the 3gs came out about the battery indicator being inaccuate - perhaps this is the same thing.

Edit - it just died a few minutes later, I still think it is odd that it went over an hour at 1%

I think the problem is that if you are designing a smart phone that has a variety of battery sapping applications then your first port of call really should be to create a battery that can both cope with this but also the normal day to day mobile usage without having to constantly charge up.

Honestly what is the point in having a user interface that is herralded and marvled by all other platforms if then you have to go in and fiddle with the settings to maintain optimal battery life ? That to me kind of defeats the whole point of being  "user friendly" ?!

Lets hope that is it because at least then its just a simple fix in software.
