Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Are you serious? Honestly, are you serious?

How can you get 8 days 15 hours of standby with 1 day and 1 hour of usage?

And that too with everything on?

    What's your secret?

I would love to get them both!!!

Please let us all know your usage!!!!

I just realised it says that the iPhone was plugged in since the last full charge.

How long did you charge it for?

    Doreenwings,

Your phone has crashed and reset at some point which is why your usage and standby information is empty.  I have seen my 4S do that and I believe it is related to the OS bugs and conflicts. You may be able to see the crash  by going to Settings>General>About>Diagnostics & Usage and looking at the log.   Just recharge your battery to 100% and start your test again.   I believe that letting the phone battery drain to zero has some minor benefit and may terminate rogue processes.  All Apple devices with sealed batteries are pre-calibrated and letting the battery drain to zero may extend the capacity by a small amount but it will not fix this battery issue.  Good luck.

Tks.  I looked at the diagnostics & usage which I had turned off, but I don't understand anything it said.  lol  Whatever.  I'm way more concerned about the battery life.  The funny thing is that it seems to drop suddenly at times.  Sometimes it's good and then maybe 2 hours go by and it's dropped 20%.  IDK.  Maybe I should go to Apple and have them exchange it.  I'll keep an eye on it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seems to be having a problem with the battery life of the ipone 4s.  My son and husband have the iphone 4 and they do not have battery life issues at all.  This is riduculous!!!!  I thought I was getting an upgrade.

I measured the standby discharge again and get a 25 hour standby.  Earlier today it worked out as a 50 hour standby.  Basically a 2 - 4 % an hour rate of discharge.  This is with everything turned on apart from set time zone in location services.

Recharged to 100% and turned on diagnostics and usage and it's back.  Now just did a hard reboot and we'll see how the battery does today.  Tks, again.

I would not mind if the next iPhone were a half inch thick if it had a longer BATTERY LIFE!!!! That's much more important than thiness, in my view.

So earlier today after reset and turn off set time zone I averaged 2% discharge for a few hours.  A few hours later and it averages 4%.  Then a couple of hours later it drops 9% in one hour.

This is always in standby with everything turned on apart from set time zone.

The discharge increase could be coincidental, but also could be related to ios activities that progressively activate or become more active in the hours after a reset... Maybe.

(P.s. I did check and there wasn't an iCloud backup during the 9% drop hour.)

I have been having the battery issue with my new iPhone 4s and finally called Apple and told them I have done a restore as new three times and still have battery drain problem and iCloud problems. They are sending a new phone because of the battery. This tells me there may be a hardware issue.

Okay, so after a week of horrible battery life from bedtime to morning, I did some experimenting.

Last night, I did the restore on my phone.  I let it drain to 0 battery, charged it overnight, woke up and unplugged with a 100% charge at 8am.  Left for church at 9am, and it had drained to 89% after doing nothing at all but sitting on my dresser.  I had wi-fi connected.

Went to church, and for 2 solid hours, the battery went from 89% down to 87%, and the only difference was that it was not connected to a wifi network.  I had wifi on, but i was not connected to the church's wifi.  I went to a member's house for lunch, it stayed at 87%.  Got home at 2:00, and the battery went from 87-84% in a matter of 2 minutes.  Turned wifi off on the phone, and now at 2:20 it is still at 84%.

So, either my wifi is screwing it up, or the wifi on the phone is screwing it up.

I have noticed while sitting at home, it will shuffle from the wifi icon to 3g over and over, like it won't hold on to the wifi signal.  Regardless, with the phone not on wifi, it has no battery problems at all.  When it is just on 3g, it does a stellar job, which is just awful, because I'm on Sprint.
