Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

Since Apple is monitoring this thread I want to throw my 2 cents in here.  I migrated to the 4S from a 4 that had trenemdous battery life.  Normal use would be an 18 hour day with the phone around 70% at the end of the day for battery life.

Now that same use pattern leaves me with 30% use on my new 4S.

This thread has been very helpful for a few points:

1. With everyone else having this problem I'm going to stop wasting time and wait for a fix.
2. I'm not going to turn everytthing off and end up with an iPod, I'm going to enjoy my phone and charge it more often.
3. The issue seems software / hardware related so instead of wasting time trying to tweak what worked well on the 4 I'm going to enjoy using the 4S.
4. Apple will eventually get this fixed, we just have to be patient. If they are doing the same testing we are doing it may take a few weeks to get this resolved.

I look forward to following along to find out if there is a smoking gun or an iOS 5.0.1 update to fix this.

well this is my story today. note that i've done dfu restore and icloud restore data yesterday, multiple deep battery cycles before that:

usage - 4 hours 40 minutes  (only about 1 hour is actually doing something with phone)

standby 17 hours 53 minutes

only made one 4 minute phone call

no emails

no push or notifications

everything shut down but wifi was turned on about halfway thru day

only visited a few web sites, checked stocks several times during day and weather, also continuted to check usage stats and diagnostic logs for anything interesting.

remaining battery life---25%

phone is unusable for anything serious without jeapordizing going to 0 with battery as it stands now. phone is clearly doing something when in standby mode. usage stats are not of my doing. i generally only utilize somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of actual reported usage.

i had just 7 days on my contract.....too late for me..........

i am testing with all OFF and no 3G network........except notifications for message and calls.

at full charge and after 12 hours STANBY   (just 1 call): lost 6%  (94%). (met the specs :200 hours stanby for now)

P.S.: 2 hours = 1%

then  i will try with 3 G network and so on..... adding features....etc etc

just for the calls :45 minutes in 3G: 11%   45 minutes no 3G: 7%  APPLE specs: 8 hours 3 G (360 m)  14 hours no 3 G

so i am in the specs fot that.

CNET.com had a review in the 14 and a update on the 20 (10/20) they had 9 hours  +13 minutes in 3 G (WOW) ( SPRINT) with many things on except wifi

they will try video testing.

I don't have a solution, but do want to report the same problem as all others - battery life on my new 4S is terrible. I have turned off WiFi, Bluetooth, Siri, Location Svcs, Push e-mail, turned down brightness. Almost everything that can be turned off has been turned off, leaving e-mail (no push, manual mode) and phone. Phone drains down from 100% down to 0% in 4-6 hours with light usage - 2 or 3 calls 5-10min each, and some e-mail.

I don't want to exchange the phone because it looks like a software/firmware problem. Hope they have a fix soon.

I don't know if this is an issue or not, but under my diagnostic folder, MobileMe is the app that has crash reports.  the other one was shazam (which I deleted).  Could be that MobileMe and iCloud are having technical/compatibility connectivity that causes the phone to work even when it's in idle--that's my two cents.  I do not know though.

Current usage is 3:14 and standby 10:11 battery is at 48% since last charge.

Ok my phone JUST died and is currently recharging.

Usage

10:27 Standby

6:00 usage on both Wifi and 3G

My 4S battery life is better than my 3GS. Sorry.

How long does your battery last you?

I am having the same issues. I have a 64GB 4S Verizon. My battery lasts only 1 day without a charge with pretty normal usage. It also gets really hot randomly and that worries me. Anyone else's getting really hot? 

At the end of an average day I have about 40% battery left. With my 3GS I had to charge it during the day to get to the end of the day. (I charge it overnight, every night, so I have a full charge in the morning).

I'm having the same issue as everyone else. I have a Verizon 4S - 16GB. I started at 100% at 8:30 am (PST). My phone just died at 4:30 pm (PST). It has been a normal usage day for me, I refuse to shut everything off, there would be no point in owning this phone if I can't use its features! I should be able to get a days worth of use out of it.....

WOW thats actually very good. I guess there is a bad batch of batteries because mine does not last that long. I unplugged at 8am and it just died at 6pm, so its not lasting as long as yours is. I hope to get this fixed. I already have another tech ticket

That because your 3GS is 2 years old and the battery is running out of power.

Yes. Mine tends to get hot and drink electrons when location services or just 3G/cellular in general is being used. Stays cool and is less thirsty on wifi, when it does not need to know where it is. However, even on wifi but using maps, augmented reality w/ location, and geo-reminders, short uses can even light it up.

I have no wifi at work (but can charge it). Get strong 3G and battery fades fast using only the Music Player with the screen off - about 10% +/- per hour. Granted, I'm using bluetooth but i4 lasted much, much longer (maybe 1-2% per hour with frequent use) using the same headphones. Frankly there's much less use right now at work because I'm trying to watch it's behaviour when mostly idle - leary to use it!

I really think 3G connectivity is the culprit, whether it's using more juice per byte of data or is fetching much, much more data than before iOS5/ iP4S.

Another culprit may be the email notifications of this post!
