Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Siri works even with EDGE.

    Facetime works only with 3G or wifi...

    @enx - Perhaps it's because my 3G signal here is 1-2 bars.

    Try this: go to Settings - Carrier, and set it to Manual.

    That may stop it seeking for a stronger signal.

    Siri: On

    Mobile Data: Off (hence we need two toggles, Data & 3G).

    @Jameson!

    This 3G/2g toggle would not be necessary if iPhone 4S and/or iOS 5 would work as shown in the specifications! Obviously the iPhone 4S and/or iOS 5 choose the wrong network (i.e. the network with the lowest signal strength) in real life situations. Also, if I am in an area with very good Wifi coverage the iPhone 4S and/or iOS 5 should choose the 2G network over the 3G network in order to save soem battery (especially when in standby mode).

    Right now, iPhone 4S and/or iOS 5 always connects to 3G (e.g. in standby, in bad 3G coverage areas, in good WIFI coverage areas, etc.). These do not look to me like smart decisions made by a smart phone.

    For some reason I cannot set the Carrier -> Settings to Manual. It is by default on Automatic and when I try to turn off it starts to search for something and after 30 seconds it shows an error message something like "unable load list of carriers" (or something like this) and then the Carrier -> Settings is back on Automatic.

    Not to mention the new $99 charge developers have to pay to develop on iOS 5.

    Apple really know how to rinse both consumers and developers.

    True that, and yet they incompetent to fixing the battery issue.

    There were several ocassions (eg. iOS 5.0 beta, iOS 5.0.1, iOS 5.1 beta 1, iOS 5.1 beta 2) to fix it. It looks like Apple just does not want to do it (or maybe it cannot be done due to some harware problems which are kept hidden).

    Exactly! It still boggles me that a multi billion company like apple cannot even get this issue fix. What's worst there hasn't been an update on the battery situation ever since the release of the poorly 5.0.1 which for many made the problem even worst for most of us.

    I seemed to have fixed mine by unsyncing most of my gmail folders. Getting much better battery life with standard use now. Might be something for others to try

    @mmbos - did you try disabling push and setting fetch to manual on the gmail account?

    Out of interest - did you add Gmail via the Exchange account option, or the Gmail one?

         Got my handset back from Vodafone today and they claim that their independant testers say there is nothing wrong with the phone. Looks like my battle will continue for some time yet.

    Same here!  I bought my 4s yesterday (my first iphone) and I am returning it today.  It's too bad, cuz I really like the phone, but the battery life is horrible.  I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts, but my phone won't even last that long so what's the point in having it>??

    I bought my first iPhone last week, and I think it will be my last. It's only 10:30am and my battery life is at 67%. Oh, and about 10 minutes ago it was at 74%, and at 9:00am it was 86%. I just went into to check one email that I received. Even worse though is the lack of support I seem to be getting from Apple. A tech walked me through a complete restore yesterday, which didn't help at all. This morning I called back and was told that since it's this bad, I can get a new phone. My options are to 1. Have one sent in 5-7 days. Uh, yes, I would be without a phone for 5-7 days. I could pay $29 to have one sent overnight, while they also put a $600+ hold on my account until they receive mine original one back, or I can go to the Apple store. They set up an appointment at the Apple store for 6:00p. I receive a confirmation email that my appointment is at 4:00p. When I called the Apple store to check on it they said my appointment was at 4:00, and they didn't have a later appointment until 6:45p. When I asked whether they had phones in stock, I was told, "There is no way for me to check." I didn't understand, so I asked, "If I were to come in and buy an iPhone, you don't know if you have any?" I was told, "Replacement phones are different." Ok, APPLE - so you're more interested in selling more phones that aren't functioning properly than providing customer service to existing customers who want to have their iPhones working correctly? As a MAC user, I am truly disappointed in my iPhone 4s and the handling of this poor battery life. I'm regretting the purchase and inconvenience of the iPhone and am regretting my transition to MAC. This is absurd.
