Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I don't understand all you guys' fascination for "standby". For christ sakes, 200hrs means 8 days... and what you guys expect that with some intelligible use on top? And your 3GS and 4 yielded 8-12 days on a charge... as it was 300hrs standby? miless in your case you're up for 24 days with a single charge. It must be something I don't understand. I'll call it the glorified alarm-clock syndrome.

so 0.14% per hour... are you sure it's not now that your battery indicator has become erroneous lollll. Seriously? That much below the spec? I mean even davidch has never been optimistic lolll. I don't have the phone, you do, but for the sake of support I think 0.5-1.5% is quite reasonable to start with. But if it gets better then more power to you!!!

    Take care!

Seriously... no kidding. If i use it, it drains... yes it drains. But its law of physics... dual core, same batt, with only 5mAH increase from 4. No matter how much optimization Apple's genius did with the software, you cant deny the fact that 2 processor drains power more than 1.

But standby time has been good... at least for me. 1% in 7 hours is nothing short of amazing. Possibly bat indicator is erratic.. i wont rule that out either.

Seriously, i never manage to squeeze my 4S beyond 1 day 12 hours. So, i am quite sure, the battery indicator is not accurate.

but for my normal usage (typically 4 hours mixture of phone calls, text, 3G browsing and reading.. but no video no music type of usage), like i have always used it, ... its better than my 3G and 3GS... and about as good as my 4. Not better.

It is not needed that one understands this!

I was expecting that it will last at least ~50% in real life situations of what the specifications claims!!! But noooo, I was wrong .... in the best case it lasts only ~33% of what the specifications claims!!!!

If I would have personally known that I have to charge my iPhone 4S every night in order to be able to use how I want then I would bought an Android phone which lasts approximately the same and it is cheaper!!!! I bought the iPhone 4S for the battery life. Now my iPhone 4S lasts a day (from morning until the evening) with my usage. How long it will last in a year or in two years when the battery will be worn down? 8 hours? 5 hours?

Let's try something else: i want to charge this phone every second day - over night! This would be ok and includes my usage (i mean tap on the screen, display is on, reading email, heavy use, calls inclusive ) of 3h without switching connections on/off manualy like a slave. I would be fascinated by this operation time.(48h)

Now i have to carry the charger with me...because my operation time is about 30 to 36h.

Is this too much or do i have to lower my expectations?

Had a conversation (25min= 6% drain!) with the support and arrange for tomorrow an apointment at the genius bar (let's see on which side will be the genius)....in the opinion of the support it is a hardware issue on both phones (same production series) but something else - not a general issue about all phones.

Interesting: i mentioned the 5.0.1 - this will be checked, there are more versions, in the meaning of different firmware for components.

Let's see tomorrow...they want to help me in 10min!

I had to return my iphone 4s yesterday. I bouthg unlocked for almost $900. the way the battery life goes is disguesting. Waht 1500 engineers or something being bluffed to the public dureing iphone 4 antena problem. Now for such a stiff price selling a phone that does not last few hours is really dissapointing. Very poor quality control. Apple does not even address this issue any more.

    Hi all,

I’ve been following this forum since i got my first iphone (4s) a month ago.

If everything was ok i wouldnt be following a support forum...I’ll get to that.

The main reason that lead me to buy an iphone was that it worked. I wasnt looking to spend toons of time costumizing an android.

So, after a month of using the “most amazing phone yet”, here is my feedback:

    -Battery

I’ve managed to almost duplicate my usage/standy time after reseting the phone. Still i’m struglling to get to the end of the day.

    This doesnt work for me.

If I wanted to fiddle with configurations and tweaks i would have gone with an android. I just wanted it to work. That’s why i payed top money for a phone.

    -Sim not recognized

This is my first phone in a lot of years that has problems with a SIM. When network error ocurred in a phone i previsoully had (a longgg time ago) it simplly resets the network conection automatically and goes on with restoring coverage.

The iphone i have to reboot it. And yes, i’ve gone and swap my cutted sim card for a micro sim.

    -Rattle

I’ve noticed something loose inside the phone. My jaw dropped when i started reading that this is normal due to lens configuration. Never had a phone that made stupid noises.

    -Acessories

As i’m paying top money for a phone, i wasnt expecting to have to run to a store imideatlly after opening the box. A car charger is mandatory.

    -Bluetooth

I’m guetting constant problems with using handsfree system on the car. The phone doesnt like to switch between playing song on bluetooth and ansewring calls.

Make no mistake about it: I didnt pay top money to be a beta tester or to even loose 5 min to call support. If something is wrong i expect to have a recall or my problem solved without the minimum assle.

I’ll wait until the end of the year for an update to fix the phone acording to it’s specs. If this doesnt happen i’ll sell the phone and forget about apple products.

In fact this is turning out to be my most amazing phone yet.

I’m completelly amazed how crap gets so well sold these days.

I had massive phantom usage and my battery would not last longer than a day. I have tried everything, including restore, network reset, reset, new sim card and beta 5.1. Nothing helped.

I then contacted Apple and requested to swap the phone. The new one is working great - no phantom usage and battery life is smiliar to my old iPhone 4.

I don't think this can be solved by software, at least not the phantom usage problem...

My main problem with battery is this:

I wake up one day with 100% charged and in couple first hours can be 99% or 95% with no usage at all randomly. Is this normal? should i go to service? thanx...I had also problem with specific provider micro sims but it accepted well anothers so no problem with this. I owned a Ip4 before and noticed also some yellowish coloured screen...my FW is 5.0.1..anyone with similar problems?

One day I had it pluged in to usb charging and was 100% and suddenly with cord connected the battery started dicreasing !! till 94%:s

    anyone with same symptoms?

I'm on my 3rd 16GB iphone and being sent a 4th now. This time they offered a juice pack for free. This doesn't sound reassuring on their end about their product. They did diagnostics on their end which stated the product was running properly. My question: In what world is this phone running in the "normal parameters" and "standards."

    5.PNG

This is the jist of what i just sent one of their agents...

***MAIN PROBLEM: BATTERY LASTS ON AVERAGE OF 3.5 hrs. from time of last full charge = 8 hrs. or more.

*Ear speaker is defective on all 3. Speaker is extremely noisy and sounds distorted. Even with bad reception or other interference.

*The case of the phone is EXTREMELY HOT at times to touch. This is with normal or slight usage. 5-10mins on phone calls or texts. Sometimes it is fine though. ???

*Screen often distorts and phone erratically has shut off several times.

    AirPlane Mode - OFF

    Wifi - OFF

    Notifications - "Everything OFF"

    Location Services - OFF

    Brightness - 3/4

iCloud is off but I had original back up of 2.7 GB

    Siri - OFF

Network - Data Roaming - OFF

    Bluetooth - OFF

    Spotlight Search - Contacts/Mail only

    Auto-Lock - On 1 minute

13.2GB available on iPhone (*I have no music or video at all on my phone.) I have an eBay app and FB app only. Both of which were not running.

Maybe they might tell me to "reduce the brightness" again and say that it should be all the way down to conserve battery power.
