Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Updated to 5.1 beta 2 yesterday morning after calling Apple support and not getting any clear answer or help.

Got a slightly better battery life over the day, everything on exept bluetooth (Push apps, iCloud, two Exchange accounts).

Today I left the house at 9 a.m. fully charged. The only thing I disabled was push mail. I got my mail manually like ten times today. This is my stat 9 minutes ago (yesterday with push mail 20%left). Pretty good so far. And I work in a "bunker" with pretty bad reception.

I just took my two Iphones and Ipad into the Genius Bar and had them updated.

Battery life appears to be back to normal now.

They were all draining in 2 hours over the last week following the last update..

It seems that they have updated the software to resolve the battery issue and I can get back to some semblance of normalcy without worrying that my batteries would die and I would loose my communications..

I am not sure if the new update is readily available or only from the Apple Store.

Seriously, i never manage to squeeze my 4S beyond 1 day 12 hours. So, i am quite sure, the battery indicator is not accurate.

but for my normal usage (typically 4 hours mixture of phone calls, text, 3G browsing and reading.. but no video no music type of usage), like i have always used it, ... its better than my 3G and 3GS... and about as good as my 4. Not better.

Fair enough! I think most likely there's 3 types of user... the emergency/lifestyle gadget crowd, the companion tool crowd and the computer replacement crowd... and I believe the last group hasn't been catered to in the latest incarnation of the phone. I'm curious to see how the Windows Phone do in that respect but as you've pointed out, it's very much related to hardware... it may be at some point we'll see the same phenomenon that's happened on the PC laptops i.e. manufacturers taking a step back and realizing there is room for more battery life with some compromise on performance... do we really need multicore 2Ghz chips for mobile browsing and peeking at the screen for new mail etc? Are those devices really suited for playing Need for Speed... If one manufacturer scales back to 1ghz single core and promises 12 full hours of use with 48hrs full standby on top, he can score big in my opinion. We'll see.

THIRD iPhone for us.No issues before 4s.

We bought two (2) Apple iPhone 4s 32 GB from SPRINT the first day available.

From the start Apple iPhone 4s Needs to charge battery several times a day, if not constantly

iPhone 4S overheats all the time.

    32 GB Already Full!

Hmmmm..... Love the easy of use and having the web always handy, but worried about the overheating and it is inconvenient to always needing to charge it. Not enough memory for modern uses.

    Mixed Reviews.

How will Apple fix my phone?

Suggestion: FREE warranty - No questions asked exchange when it dies from the overheating issue.

Hello everyone!already having second iPhone 4s battery drain problem. Ifirst changed it after about two weeks of tests. I used the battery doctor pro to do a full charge and seems to have improved battery consumption in stand-by. from 5-6% to 2-3% per hour per hour.

but the consumption during use is really disappointing. It seems that everytwo to three minutes using a percentage of the battery goes. the more intense applications such as games, is about 1% of battery per minute of use.

How about? to wait for the update or try to change it.

By the way, I am on orange network and I have two  MicroSim cards(having too contracts with orange, the galaxy s I allready sold) and the battery is behaving the same with both cards.

I only want to say that 3G is activated and the rest, incluiding Siri, location services, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and almost all notification is off.

Very good phone but horrible battery problem. Hope this will be solved soon by apple by an update!

PS. It seems that when i listen to radio with TuneIn Radio the phone is getting very hot, real hot! And another problem is the fact that the usage time is to high comparing with the real time that i use the phone. Just navigating trough the phone menu, open some for a very short time and about 10 min of 3G talking on the phone. stand by time is seems fair now.

    @enx23 @tamarillo

I hear you both. In both your cases it's really the charging every day that's unacceptable. And the economy-oriented tinkering with the functions. You want the untamed leaded V8. I can understand that. I'd argue the phone does too much in its current form factor to enable this type of usage scenario. That's why I really like feature phones - a few features I really need, and some battery life. I'm not into "apps", cloud or social networking - I don't want it, I don't buy it. But I believe Apple will take notice... and up the ante next time. I hope so for your sake...

As for me I hope for a backlash, a return to common sense. Mobile computing is overrated and bloated in my opinion. I wish Apple would do a feature phone but I don't think it's happening anytime soon... that's why I'm shopping for good old symbian i.e. turbo diesel. But that's me!

    Good luck!

just went to the Apple Store again (per Apple support) to replace the phone - again.  This is the third 4s.  Battery has gone from 75% to 47% in about 90 minutes.. .with virtually no use.

    Amazing.

    This is my first iphone...

Come on Apple - admit there is problem here - there are over 7,000 posts on this - all about the battery

I upgraded from an iPhone 2g to the 4S and my 4S battery drains at a faster pace than my 2g battery.  And I'm not just throwing it out as a joke, I've fully charged both batteries and have set both iPhones next to each other and the 4S battery drains at a faster pace.

Keep in mind that the 2g no longer has phone connection but, they are both on my home's WIFI.

There's something inherently wrong when a phone with a 3 year-old battery lasts longer than a new one.

I'm now on my fourth replacement phone and absolutely no change in battery life.... So fed up and have lost all faith that this will ever be sorted..... What the heck is going on apple?? Please do something.... Phone running out late at night in the middle of London leaves me feeling extremely vulnerable.... This is getting beyond a joke. I, like many people rely upon my phone to feel safe and secure. Instead am left with a mobile phone that doesn't web have the battery life when you need it most....

After turning off exchange push I am happy with my battery life.

It has gone down 40% in 10 hours and that's with a couple of hours of continuous 3G use.  It did drop by 10% in 40 minutes this morning when using the Internet, but when I check apple's expected battery life it works out as 16% per hour for 3G Internet.

I don't think it's what apple intended but I think it's closer than most people think.

To keep things in perspective my HTC Desire Z would go from 100% to 0% in three continuous hours of 3G use (why I own a powermonkey), and my iPhone never did that, even with Exchange push on.

If apple really can improve the battery life from here it will be amazing.
