Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I had the same problem with my 4s. It lost a little over 50% overnight. i took the phone to the tech guys at the apple shop where they went on to embarass me. unlike the iphone 3g (my previous phone), the apps don't close when you push the home button. they continue to run in the background. to close an app you need to double click the home button and then hold the apps to make them shake. then close when the little red minus sign appears.

I had never done this since i got the phone about 3 months ago. It has gone from losing 12% an hour to 1% in 2 1/2 hours. They need to make this a little clearer i think.

    Hope this helps

Sorry for my English but I'm French.

I would say it's a shame that Apple sells the iphone 4s over 690 $ in France. I bought a 16gb iphone 4s with 5.O1 and the battery lasts just one day. And I did shut down several apps like: geolocation, icloud, itunes, wifi & bluetooth (I had just 1 or 2 hours more) but it's still a low battery and only lasts one day. I am very disappointed to have a smartphone as bad for a very expensive price !!!!!!!!!!!!

Apple lied about the capacity of iphone4s !!!!!!!!!!

You may want to make sure to check the Apple support site for information, that is the best place to go. Make sure that your phone, that you are currently on registered on the network is in fact an iPhone 4S.

From the support document and ensure that the following conditions:

In certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors:

    • "Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently.
    • Status bar displays "No Service" or "Searching" in a location with good network coverage.

    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148

Follow that document and nothing else.

    best of luck and thanks.

Apps that are in the background are suspended unless they are using audio, location services or VoIP AND have been specifically programmed to request doing this in the background.  If they are using a background service they should be doing that and nothing else.

I can't imagine you have enough apps using background services to make it worth killing them.

I'm finding that I get normal (ish) usage down to about 25% but from that point on it sometimes (not always) disappears very very quickly and the phone powesr down. But then when I start to recharge it, it's back up to 25% very quickly too. I can't though establish any pattern.

We bought the new iphone 4s to replace the 3G because the phone's battery life was bad. The 3G phones would last most of 2 days worth of use but after three years it was down to about one day's worth of use. Now the new iphone 4s is worse than the old phones when it comes to the battery life. Yes. the phone has some nice new features, but the battery in these phones don't even last half the day. Today I started with a full charge and after 3 phone calls, one email check, one text message and one Internet search the phone was down to less than 20% by 3 pm. Granted, the phone calls were 20 minutes in length. So what? By the way, we did the 5.0.1 upgrade and thing got worse. I'm sorry we bought these phones. I'm tell my friends and business associates not to buy this phone. Apple has a lot of nerve selling these thing with a flaw like this. I have an ipad and the battery life is terrific. The ipad lasts two day at the minimum. I guess we have to live with problem and keep the phone on a charger most of the time. this is sad and unfortunate for all those of us who have purchased this product.

Off topic but help required nevertheless...

Having got to the end of the 493 pages of discussion, I clicked on the link at the top which says "Branched to a new discussion" to get the following message: "It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake."

OK - so how do I get this fixed?  There seems to be no "Contact an Administrator" link that I can see.

    Cheers RB

Bored in line at a store, I started looking at the settings of my phone and push notifications was on for my email etc. I think it reset to "on" when I last synced. Since swtiching fetch data to off a couple hours ago I am getting different standby and usages times. I will know for sure when I recharget tonight.

You can eliminate phantom usage if you restore your iphone 4s with the new build 9A406 of iOS 5.0.1 !!

Open itunes, connect your iphone with cable, make a backup! then hit the restore button, restore it to factory defaults. during the restore process itunes will download the new build an restore it to your iphone. after that, restore your backup to the phone. thats it!

    Hello everyone.

i read many of the pages in this topic and decided to set up a small website where i want to collect all the runtime data of the new iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and 3GS.

I think its time to collect as many data as we can to see if there is a specific combination of Hardware and software.

For this reason i have created the Website

    http://www.ewald-foto.de/iphone/

where you can enter some details of your iPhone. This page calculates the average runtime of every HW / SW combination.

If you have any ideas or suggestions or want the raw data please contact me at freddiemailster@gmail.com

I'm starting this project right now so only my data is in the database. Please help me and share the URL.

    Thanks in advance.
