I thought I'd share this update regarding my 4S battery.
Last night, I was toying around with Instagram and the app crashed and then, suddenly, I got an error telling me that my SIM was invalid. Huh? The phone was reporting that I no longer was connected to AT&T. Uh, okay. So I rebooted the phone and it took a little while to get it back and then it was normal. Then, I was doing something else and I got the Invalid Sim message again. Hmm. I turned on Airplane mode and waited and turned it off again, seeing if the phone would find the sim again. Nope.
Now while I was doing this, the battery was draining. Not super fast, but not as slow as it was before this happened. I did notice the phone getting a little hotter than I thought it should usually be.
After I rebooted again, I noticed the little purple triangle of Location Services light up on the menu, as if the phone was accessing its location. This is after a boot up and after I force quit all of the apps that we're running. Hmm. I went in to turn off location services and when I did, the triangle stayed there. I went to turn LS back on and the switch was slightly greyed out and it wouldn't react. Eventually it did and the triangle went away.
The phone was still not seeing the SIM. So, I got my super duper iPhone sim removal tool and popped the door open and took out the sim and then put it back in. After a moment, AT&T was back up and everything looked normal.
The battery drained a bit, but not bad. I plugged in the phone to the iPad charger I had sitting next to my couch. Ithe battery was at 79% or something. It charged back up to 100% pretty fast. I was wondering if it was a problem hooking up the iPad charger to the iPhone because of the power differences, but I haven't heard that you can't do it. The phone did get a little warm though. I wanted to charge it up to 100% so I could see the usage stats.
Anyway (phew), by the time I headed to bed (after falling asleep on the couch for a few hours) I noticed the battery was down to about 96%. I decided not to hook it up to its charger overnight to see what would happen. Here's what the battery reported when I woke up:

It was still at 95%!
When I started writing this post, exactly 1 hour after waking it was at 90%:

Right now, it's at 86% and draining slowly.
What I did notice in the Usage stats, the Usage time has decreased a lot from previous days, as if something is no longer being used as much as it was before. Hmm. (BTW, I did turn location services back on. And Siri is on too)
Anyway, I wanted to share my experiences with you all (and, presumably, Apple) to see if any of what I did could help to fix the battery issues. It's too early to know whether I've fixed something completely or if it's just temporary. I'll report back if things change. Maybe pulling out and replacing the SIM card had something to do with this. I don't know.
