Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

You dont need to copy the personal content like pics, apps or something else manually to your PC - just do a backup over itunes! thats the important thing! itunes will backup all of your setting, pics, vids, apps, and all other data. after the backup finished, do the restore with new firmware, after that, itunes will restore your backup too, and your iphone will be like before this procedure - except that it has the new firmware. please use google or apple support database if you dont know how to use the itunes backup function.

No, we don't have "damaged batteries" in our iphones 4 & 4S and we can't turn off all the fun and essential functions to extend its battery life in ios 5.0.1! It is a real problem in some phones that is not yet resolved by Apple. My iPhone 4 drains in one day - all I do now is double click the home button and turn off all my apps from running in the background! This micromanagement is ridiculous!! One time it drained 74 percent overnight!! I was sleeping and got two sms texts and one call! Did I mention that I carry the charge cable with me now wherever I go!? The apps, locations, wifi, 3G, notifications, etc - are all essential parts of the iphone life, and we want to use them all, not turn them all off!

Can someone please post some news from official sources! I want to know if Apple will release an update to fix the battery bug. Otherwise, I'll have to go to an Apple rep office and complain:(( And I am in another country now.

I thought my iPhone battery discharge was high at first (see earlier posts of mine).  But after turning off location services -> set time zone (not sure if that was draining battery but it was always asking for location), and setting my exchange account to every 15 minutes instead of push, the battery life has been getting better and better.

Today it used 15% with 1 hour usage and 10 hours standby.  And remember I was complaining on these forums a week ago!

I wonder whether underneath the other things there is a level of "settling down" of the battery discharge over the first few days of phone use.  Or maybe it really is just the things I turned off represented a higher battery drain.

But in short, I've gone from disappointed to very happy in m first two weeks if owning an iPhone.

i am afraid you have somehow 'minced' my words

i would like you to reread my post

and youll discover the word perhaps

i would therefore be more inclined to beleve your battery for one

    has sustained some damage

    i have model A1387

and this should be a good starting point

as is conditioning of a cell prior too full hard on use

ie  you need to wind it up like an engine and both by updating it

and learning to best take care of it

    in the first place

i notice looking at some peoples picture of there usage screen shot

that you actualy have stats after just a few recharges

    this isnt right

my iphone after the inital charge got to 20% i plugged in the live phone to the charger

and the usage reset to all -----  and a note below says that true stats will return on a full charge

i then just kept it on till it switched off

you need to fully discharge till your phone switches off

    AND LEAVE IT OFF

then fully charge it when its off

let it settle for an hour and then power on

this will somewhat fix the cell

after this the display will return as fully charged and give the right stats

and then follow advice to only enable what you need to use

hence my idea to add some quick set icons

    to the main itop

a simple solution is if someone with the problem and some simple knowlage

take the back off{easy} and investigate the current use at the cell

perhaps its just a dodge batch of lithium ion cells

it would not be the first time this has happened

    above all

if you dont like your iphones performance

    take it back!!!

or dont moan on an on over 400 pages of almost useless info

except the first and a few other posts

My iPhone 4s heats up while I use it. I think this adds to draining the battery. Does this happen to anyone else too?

heat is not good for LI cells and makes then unstable and discharge faster

again this will cause damage to the cell

    is it inside a case???

perhaps it has a thermal excessive ic or a problem with its antenna

as the refected power will make it heat

    is this when you call someone??? {antenna}

or all the time {bad ic }???

your info is sparce and no model number???

make sure its in a good reception point

very often its something antenna related

    together with other settings

    like bluetooth etc as mentioned

i would take this one back to an apple shop etc..

    sounds faulty  for sure

    i agree

    few notes

if you intend to update the o/s

reset the phone to factory first

    then load the new flash

then soft reset and treat phone as new

if you have updated and have issues

    even after soft reset

then hard reset to factory then soft reset it to sync all blocks

then update and soft reset again

    do a full cycle charge

ie run it on till it turns off past the normal 20% warning

then leave it off and fully charge it

I have noticed a considerable better battery drain after the 5.01b update too. Crossing my fingers...

There probably is something running in the backround. On your iPhone, try double-clicking the home button and if there is apps running, simply tap the red - icon on the top left part of the app.

I have solved my issue with the battery drain on my 4s. I had purchased a new white 64 gig iphone. When I set it up it asked me to migrate my mobile me account to icloud. I did this even though I have been using another account for itunes. Well the icloud would work on my mac and pc but not the iphone. Only my photo stream seamed to work. The battery drain was constant. I tried everthing from wiping it clean and reinstall three times. Still did not stop the battery drain. I finally called apple and requested a new iphone. Got the new one and restored from a backup. Battery drain was still there. I finally had an idea to wipe the phone and restore as new. The only thing I did different was to sign up to icloud with my itunes account information. Well what do you know I have a functioning iphone now. I am on my second day with 37% 3 1/2 hrs usage and 1 1/2 days standby. I had thought there was a problem having two apple ID accounts and even asked tech support about this but they said it did not matter. I am so glad I fixed my iphone. Not sure if this applies to other people having problems with the battery and icloud but this solved my issues.
