Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Can anyone tell me if that Usage Time is good?

My phone came with 5.0.1 I bough it at the end of November

I have everything ON except Cellular data + Photo Stream + Bluetooth

Looks good to me if you really used it for that time and it didn't lie around in standby.

I also recommend disabling everything in system services under location services. You really don't need it. Especially "setting timezone".

    day 5

last night i played a few tunes downloaded some app's tidied the itop icons

made some calls and sent a few texts about 2hrs use

i still have 16% left to go on cycle number1

once its run down to 0 and i fully charge it ill get the usage stats back

but i noted what i used

so far i have had from ~120hrs  about 15hrs uptime {use} the rest in standby

so... i just wonder why i get over 4 days and i assume will run all day today in standby

maybe another 20-30 mins uptime {calls etc} and others dont ???

remember i am not the bad guy

    just sharing my experiences

i do have a degree in electronic's engineering with radio and radar maintainance

so i know what should happen and when ....

if i had this issue i would return the phone at once

looking around its not everyone with an issue

this would hasten my return to the shop with it

as its obviously a batch problem be it the cell or other problem

if people with the issue started returning them instead of moaning about it

this would get the problem addressed much faster i feel

    i have model {on the back plate } A1387

please post what models you have an issue with as this is the best place to start

    maybe also the date of manufacture {box label}

I agree. Since most apps require an internet connection, they activate 3G network and drain the battery faster. So do all location services etc. But should we not use any of that?

BTW, this night my battery lost 58 percent of charge, while I slept!! I just received some emails and notifications!

That is really a question for Apple to answer not me, I just know that I'm lucky if I get 5 hours use, and 1 day and a few hours standby before my iPhone is dead. Some even has worse numbers than that...

If you really have been reading the tread you would notice that people have been returning there phones, with the same result, nothing new there. It would be better if Apple would acknowledge the problem and do a recall on "the bad batch" if that is the problem.

    Just found this link:

    http://www.tipb.com/2011/10/23/fix-battery-life-problems-ios-5-iphone-4s/

Wonder if this would help, but then again, it just limits all the fun features of the iPhone...

That's from before 5.0.1 (which was supposed to fix the battery issues got released). And if I read it right, can be summarised as "you'll get better battery life if you turn everything off and don't use the phone". Which isn't much help

Well, I guess there's room for improvement.

As far as I know these system services are not needed for the iPhone to work properly. More like supporting measures and lots of diagnostic data for Apple. And there was an early bug with "Setting Timezone" in the iOS 5 betas and GM that drained battery a lot. This may be fixed, but still. If I don't rely on these services, why should I let them use up my battery.

The battery of the iPhone 4S is uncceptable.

I totally agree!!! If one uses that iPhone 4S and iOS 5.0.1 (latest build) with the default settings (e.g. Locations Services on, etc.) the phone will die in few hours. Not everybody has time, knowledge, and energy to play with the settings of the phone. I do not understand how a manufacturer can release on the market such phone!

What is the best way to throw this useless phone? It's a piece of junk with a dead battery.

Let's assume that one who is a normal user has a SIM issue and iOS 5.0.1 the old build...

If you call the support, first thing they will tell you is to restore the phone. If you do so, you will get the new build.

Calling support is more cumbersome  and expensive than:

    1) getting a notice that their is a new version of iOS and update the iOS over the air

    or

    2) connecting the iPhone to the iTunes, check for a new update, do the update!!!

I really hope that this is not the future of support for Apple "call the support first" instead of "announcing/pushing new and clear updates".

    Yup, I have to agree.

But it still seems to me that we are a minority. I know lots of 4S users which do not have any problem. (battery drain/sim card etc).
