Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    @flex one

I really hope that we are a minority! The hope dies the last!

Among my friends with IPhones 4s all have battery issues, which means that their battery lasts less than two days with a lot of settings off.

I have a feeling that users which do not have battery issues are not having 3g network connection (3g network is different than 3g data) because their provider does not have one for the area where they live (i.e. there is for example available only GSM/cdma network and no UMTS). It is known that iPhone batteries  can last much longer on GSM networks than 3g networks.

I am current trying a power cycle to help with the battery.

Can anyone let me know how long i should leave it charging for after a full re-charge?

And also... does anyone know what batch numbers appear to be effected?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

As a follow up to my post yesterday, it seems that my SIM problem, and my fix, has made a huge difference with my battery life. I know this doesn't help those Verizon users, but maybe it can help others.

Last night, I had to make a late night run to the airport, so I had my iPhone plugged in while I was using the GPS. It charged to 100% and by the time I got home (and turned off Tom Tom), it stayed at 100%. I decided not to plug it in overnight. When I woke this morning, it was still at 100%!! This was a first. By the time I took this screen shot, it had dropped to 98%. But you can see the usage stats:

    http://db.tt/VAgC5n7z

You can see the usage is down to 11 minutes. This was never the case before. Somehow, after I popped the SIM out and rebooted, something got switched off that was constantly using the phone.

This is good news for me. Hopefully this can help someone else.

Oh, and thanks to those who posted info regarding the SIM fix. I've decided not to run Apple's update, yet, since things seem fine at the moment. If the SIM issue happens again, I will. But for the moment I'm leaving sleeping dogs alone.

I'll keep you all up to date as I monitor this some more.

    Antonio

Yesterday I made a calibration of the battery.

It stayed disconnected for a couple of hours and then I pluged it to mi iMac to charge it.

Then I saw you talking about the new firmware that somenone posted that solves the phantom using.

I made a restore of mi Iphone 4s 16gb (movistar), and then iTunes downloaded the new firmware 5.0.1 build 9A406 and installed it.

I have not connected it to iTunes. I just take the contacts, streaming photos and notes from icloud.

Then, with no applications installed I beging testings.

The usage/standby times seems to be corrrect.  The only issue, is that if I lay it in standby mode for 60 minuts, it takes 3 or 4 minutes of usage and 60 of standby.

I tested that the usage time was correct and took some notes.

From 22:52  until  23:52  i was just testing the usage and I just used a few minutes of wifi internet with data ON.

    i went from 100%  to   96% i that hour

then i put it on standby mode  from 23:52 to  00:52 and it went to  94%  (wifi and data ON)

Then I put OFF the data and let mails appear on blocked screen

I lay it on standby from 00:52 to 01:52  and it was  93%

then from 01:52 to 03:52 on standby, it was  on 90%

standby again and at  05:22 it was on 88%

    Then I activated Plane mode

From 05:22  to   16:22  it went to  85%

    from 16:22 to  18:22 (NOW)

I've been downloading all the apps that I had before, directly from APP store via wifi. And then I've distributed all by folders.

Downloading this 75 apps  have make the iphone go from 85%  to   57%  in 2 hours.

I think that my iphone's battery is draining too fast...

I've most location services OFF, just safari, maps and camera.

    phone data is off.

Most of the tricks to made the battery drain slow are made on my phone so... Do I have a normal drain?

    please help!!!!

I have over10 percent per hour battery drain. It can go from 100% to off in 4 to 5 hours. I just bought the Iphone 4s 64gb and have the latest software. I manage a corporate account of over 200 phones for a large constuction company and I did this upgrade (phone from bb 9700 to Iphone 4s)  last week.

Please let me know if I can help in any way posible.
    Thanks

I think I've figured out what the problem is, at least with my iPhone. I got my iPhone nearly a month ago and as soon as I got home I changed all the settings to those I've read about on here, not wanting any problems to start early. I had great battery life, sometimes even getting nearly 8 hours of usage before I'd need to charge. I also always had Siri tuned off, because it doesn't really work well in Canada anyway. I'd turn it on once in awhile just out of boredom but I'd still always disable it afterwards. Last night I decided to leave it on, because I hadn't really noticed it affecting my battery. So I charged it to 100% like I usually do before bed and unplugged it. Normally I wake up and see only a 0-2% drop, but when I woke up this morning my battery was at 73%. I went to check the usage and both the usage and standby read 10 hours and 1 minute. It had to be because of Siri.. So I shut it off but the usage and standby are still increasing at the same rate. I'm fully charging it again and hopefully my battery will not stay like this,  I'm so disappointed..

Ok, so I went to Apple yesterday and told them about the battery problem, the volume problem, the status and usage disappearing, and the calendar problems.  They knew all about every problem.  The girl I worked with said the software on my phone was corrupt and needed to be completely restored.  Lovely! (sarcasm) and that a backup restore from earlier backups should NOT be done b/c you're only reloading the corrupt software.  She said most of the problems were iPhone 4S problems, like the volume lowering by itself.  The battery issue is still being worked on and they will be coming out with another software update.  That's all I know.  Whether it's right or not, IDK.  I worked on the phone for hours last night to get it back to where I wanted it and now I'll just have to wait and see if it works better.  I was able to retain a lot of my info b/c of iCloud and syncing to iTunes to restore my music and books was not a problem.  The apps can be restored from your phone.  That's it for now.

i shall await Iphone 4s number 5 arriving Tuesday......

Yep....Then waited to see what battery was like for a few hours (no change) Then restored everything except apps from back up.... Maybe the post above mine is right... Perhaps the back ups are corrupt, but even with nothing on my phone before I did the back up I was losing the same as before during use and in standby.... Eg down to 97% with 9 mins standby and 3 mins use.... Not sure how to upload screenshots! Sorry!

Sorry to hear that. Mine seems a lot better now. And I also was totally convinced it is a hardware issue at first. Hope you're lucky with no 5.

so tomorrow a new cycle will begin

ill add a post see how it goes

but man  5 days uptime is aok for me

if i needed internet i enabled it

i dont use bluetooth except for transfers from other phones etc,,,

I think I managed somehow my battery issue, since last full charge I got 1 day 17 h stand buy and 5 h of usage, moustly 3g and email. For me it seems ok. Stand buy is not 0.5%, but it's a lot better then before. Just recommended settings from page 1.

I noticed that **** Siri sensor is reactivating by it self. I switch off, restart, few h is off, and when i check with camera, it is on. WHY?

Other thing, i put all games and social netvorks notifications off, and still thay are here. WHY Apple?

Make 3g switch, and fix **** buggs, or I'm going to Samsung.

as i sayed before some quick set icons or an app that is an icon to quick set or group of icons

perhaps its easy to make for them in the know as to the o/s handles

anyway   its far better we solve this you all solve this will a reset to factory

and as i see in other sites flash it to the latest o/s using the usb cable

perhaps some idiots at some providers use wifi etc to upgrade

i think my o/s is aok

    5 days aint bad???

    so...

i had issues at first till i read a bit

    and took my own path

    lets see

ill post the stats pics as the days go on

    perhaps i can help others

but man 5 day... this is ok ...

personaly i dont care its far better than my moto L6  now worth some £0.5  on most recycle sites

i would rather hit it with a hammer

    but it does now make a good in home backup {added power cable to it and the original charger powers it}
