Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    I fixed it

    I fixed it

The main problem is the iphone 4s keeps trying intrrnet devices every second, so I would bet everyone here with the battery drain has an internet acccount with the iphone.  For starters, check cirst, in the usage file, go into settings general usage.   Does it say there the same time for boh? Example 2 hours usage. 2 hours standby? Then you have this issue, if it does this post is for you.

First, if your with microsoft exchange put it to check every 15 minutes. At least till the fix comes out.

If that fixes the usage your done

Second, if you still have the usage file showing the same time usage and standby, turn icloud i phone finder off and even turn off icloud.

It that does not fix it

Third, turn siri off, it can be activating by itself.

If that did not fix it

Turn wifi off.  (bluetooth is never an issue)

If that does not fix it

Double click the round button, it will show the open programs, close them

Do a hard reboot, you should get 3 percent per hour now

Remeber, the whole thing thats wrong is something. Hecks the internet every second

    I have iPhone 4S 64 GB unlocked.

It looks I got better piece that most of you on this forum. Right now I have 4% battery left after 13 hours usage (mostly listening to iPod plus about 2 hours of reading on Kindle and 2-3 hours on WiFi web browsing) and 2 Days and 17 hours standby.

Cellular phone is on and cellular data turned off all the time, because I don't have data plan. I turn WiFi on only when I am home. Location services are on - but disabled for most of apps. Siri is on, but raise to speak is disabled. Push is off. iCoud and iTunes sync off. Notifications are on, but not for everything.

If I don't touch the phone during day - I lose about 25% of battery per day on standby. On airplane mode I lose about 15% of battery per day on standby. If I turn wifi and cellular data I lose about 33% on standby per day.

I am probably going to return it - since standby life is about half of what apple claims. When I bought it my impression was that claimed 200 hours (8 days) standby time is with cell phone on - that is usual measurement used by other phone manufacturers.

If apple will fix the battery problem in future and users will confirm it then I will buy it again. As far as I am concerned this might be hardware issue which apple might choose to solve in iPhone 5, if ever. I bought this phone with intention to use it for at least 5 years, if I don't return it within 30 days then I might be stuck with bad battery life for that time.

When Steve Jobs was alive he spoke about battery life a lot and refused to do certain things if they affected battery life too much. It looks that with his death apple lost a beta tester which actually had both interest and power to force apple engineers to fix things. Looks like current apple leadership is caring much less about the apple products quality and the company is starting its way downhill.

I'm from the Philippines. I bought my iPhone 4S last Dec 17 (Around 8PM) (So I'm one day ahead of you guys. As of now its Dec 19 at 9AM). I did a 'rough' charging to it because as soon as I went home, I updated my firmware 9A406. So when it was plugged to the computer it charged to 100%. Didn't got a chance to drain it then full charge it.

Do you guys think I have the battery issue?

I made a total of 1hour phone call and usage mostly with the Internet, medium use of texting and playing with Siri. No music played yet / camera use.

    Model: A1387

    Serial: C38

    Settings:

Wifi turned on only when in need.

    Notifications on Manually.

Notifications Center only what is needed. (Phone, Messages, Calendar, Reminders, Facebook, Twitter)

    Location Services OFF

Brightness on Auto-Brightness but is set to 50% - 60%

Siri turned ON, Raise to Speak to OFF

    Cellular Data is OFF

    Bluetooth is OFF

    Auto-Lock 1 Minute

    Restrictions OFF

1 Yahoo! Mail set to Manual.

As I typed this and looked over my settings I dropped to 30% at 9:23.

It looks like normal on the screenshot you sent. The issue with power drain is with users that see the same amount in the usage as the standby. With the 4s we have a powerfull machine, we consume a bit more battery than the prior iphone but boy is it fast. With what you sent, it looks like your set.

One key thing to make your phone battery last just a little more, put the auto sync for the clock time in off

I just wanted to take a moment and relay my story and ask for opinions.

The story starts with me ordering and purchasing a iPhone 4s when they first became available. This was a preorder on the 7th of Oct. with a delivery on Oct. 14th.I had problems from the get go but through this forum  solved them and was happy with the phone.I commented on this post way back when! I updated to 5.1 and had problems again. I went through 3 of these phones with call, battery and screen issues between Oct. 14th and  Nov. 29th. I worked with Apple care and they were very helpful and I was able to mail back the phones and get replacements. I finally gave up on the 4s and even though I was past 30 days they made a exception and allowed me to return the 3rd phone because of faulty info given to me in week 2(long story). Even though I had all the tracking info # and signatures from Fed Ex they denied my refund at the end because they couldn't find my return in the warehouse. I sent them the Tracking info and the apple employee that signed for it but had a horrible customer experience with one Senior advisor who's name I won't mention because of my Christmas spirit. 8 hours on the phone later and 2 weeks I received notice that they found the phone in the warehouse and were processing the refund!! Happy Days!!

Even after that experience ( I like Apple products) I went backwards in life and purchased a new iPhone 4 locally and its running 4.3. I have no problems with the phone at all but miss some of the upgraded features in 5.0 and above.Do I dare upgrade or wait for Apple to smooth things out first and if I do upgrade should I start with a fully reset phone or what?

If you use push with email I would wait 2 weeks. The battery drain in because some programs don't stop searching for updates and waist the battery. I now have 1 day battery life on my phone so i am happy. If you don't eant to risk it, wait.

I got mine replaced at the apple store and still get less than a day with normal use that would use less than half the amount on my previous iPhone 4. So seems like a s/w issue. Frustrating.

I think the battery issue has been well covered in this thread. I have the same issue with my 4S, but it also suffering from overheating. I need to stress that it's hot not warm after 10 mins of use. Is this a common problem and should I get my phone replaced or is this going to be addressed with software update? I am trying to determine if this overheating issue is a hardware issue or not. Appreciate any feedback.

Really? I think that 3% per hour in standby is not acceptable in any case!!! It is just way too much!

3 percent per hour means that iPhone 4S will be dead in one day and 9 hours which is ~17% standby time from  the specifications!!!!

This is really really bad!!! Soooo much time has passed and all I can see is that Apple is not working on fixing the battery issue! They are working on anything else but not on this! For sure my next phone will not be an iPhone!!! I do not even want to imagine how iPhone 5 will be (battery life = 2 hours in standby?)!!!

When i recieved my iphone it consumed about 2% per hour. After adding the services and updating the os I started to consume the battery in 4 hours. Actually, i went to bed at 2am and found the phone off at 8am. I started testing the phone to find out why it waised so much battery. Being in charge of cominications for my company I reproduced the error on various iphones and found it to be similar on each. It seems to always be over use of the phones hardware in reference to the cominications protocal of the device.

We would all like to get at least a few days of standby, but my writing is meant more for the frustraded few with serious battery problems that cant find a solution on the internet. It took me quite a few hours trying everything I could think of to fix my phone. I even thought of returning it at one point.

We are all waiting for the update but at lease the phone is usable till the update gets here. Check your usage and compare it to the standby. If you recieved 1 day 9 hours and usage is around 3 hours or more, then your fine for this os.

I guess that you mean that after you got your phone and switched off many settings you were getting 2% per hour. At least you switched off the System Location Services. With System Locations Services you would not have gotten 2% per hour!!!

You assume that this is a software issue!!! After two months and 500 pages here still it is not clear if this is a software or a hardware issue or if it can even be fixed with a software update! Because so long time has passed it looks to me that even Apple tries to figure out this and even today Apple does not know what to do with it (in the mean time Apple works on improving the streaming of photos and things like this)!

For example did you know that 80% of iPhone are affected by the static issue which is a hardware one. My iPhone 4S is affected by it. Most likely also your phone is affected by it. Have you checked if your iPhone 4S is affected by the static issue (turn off your Wifi, turn on your Cellular Data, go to Safari and load a web-page which takes long time to load and immediately put your ear to the back of your iPhone 4S where is the Apple logo and listen, if you here a static noise when the web-page is loading then you are affected by the static issue)?
