Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I've been following this story and feeling a little guilty because of my lack of battery trouble but last night I downloaded two apps (Around Me & Hit Tennis 2) and today I'm seeing a rapid decline in the battery. Hate to start giving up apps so a little love from Apple might be nice. Fix this!

Hope all of us can get in on this. I'd be very angry if Apple sold us defective hardware and refused to fix the problem by not giving us  free new phones (in exchange for our old ones  of course)

On a sidenote I feel better knowing that it is software based, I don't want to have to exchange my phone.

Yes, I too went to genius bar tonight, and the "genius" admitted that "you are not alone on this."  Definitely appears to be a widespread problem.  Need the media to pick this up.

Alright Ladies and Gents, here I am again after swapping my phone from apple. So as i said in my earlier posts that last week when i went to apple the lady who served me just tried to say different things to make excuses and I didn't like her behaviour at all and was thinking to complain about her to apple customer relations but I didn't. Forget about it.

Anyways, so had an call appointment with Apple Canada this morning and the guy called me and I explained everything to him and after listening to all the stuff he suggested that the battery needs to be replaced and he booked an apointment for me at 6:00 at apple Rideau center in Ottawa. So, i got my phone swapped. It came with 69% charging and I backed it up with iCloud. And I have set it up as a new phone of course and so far the battery shows normal behaviour but I am goign to let it drain and then post again to let you guys know if it is really valuable to swap teh phones because i originally didn't wanna swap. My battery wasn't horrible but it wasn't great as soon as you start using it and honestly I am not expecting much from this one too. But I am going to let it drain and then charge it upto 100% and see what happens.

SUGGESTION: Just a tip for you guys; if you call or book an appointment onlin with apple at 1-800 number, the reps over there listens to you and really try to help you. So any of you who are havign trouble like i am hearing things, 14-20% drain/hr. That is really soemthing wrong with battery and you guys should swap it and Apple will do it just because they understand the markting and customer relations but If you are just going to walk into teh apple store it might not help you. Honestly those guys don't knwow anything. Kids who dropped out of school or high scholl students who really don't understand alot. So but you can expect good friendly results by calling apple and explaining your problem.

I will get back again on this forum to let you people know my results of this new swapped phone.

One of the biggest problems is that apps are not optimized for the newer version of iOS so they will usually leak memory or do other things that might run the battery down. Wait until they come out with updates for the apps that work properly with iOS5. This happens every time a major update of the OS comes out. People always freak out about battery life everytime a new phone or OS comes out. Give it a chance to settle down first.

This iphone 4S battery is a huge disappointment.  Really?  I would like Apple to fix this issue asap.  I came from an iphone 4 which was conciderably better.  Big big difference here folks.

So turning off WiFi causes the crash files to stop accumulating.

I then deleted my iCloud account. I then reinstalled my iCloud account and reconnected to Wifi. No more crash files and the battery stopped dropping in front of my eyes.

These files are also absent from my 4S. So it would seem that this is likely a partial explanation of the observed battery drain (which I also saw in my 32GB 4S ATT).

So I guess they should also pick up on the crappy battery life of almost all android powered phones as well. Remember it is a new phone and the battery will go down faster at first because you are actually using it more because it is new. Once you start to settle down with the phone it will also get longer battery life. Same thing happened with the iphone 4 and people complained about it too but then it started getting better. Also everytime a new iOS comes out there are threads like this saying the same thing everytime.

I received my iPhone 4S on release day. I ordered from ATT. I am an iPhone veteran as I have purchased every iPhone to date. The first few iPhones battery life were fairly poor, even the 3Gs. I assumed that was just part of it. When I purchased the iPhone 4, I was very pleased with battery life. I could go 2 days at least, without charging and that was with fairly heavy use. I never used Push email though. Since I've been using the 4S, the battery life is definitely not as good as the 4. At least not yet. I've been testing a few things. When I first received the phone, I let it die all the way, then I fully charged and let it die again. I believe I did it 3 times. Since then I've just charged whenever I want. With my 4, I always just let it die all the way and then fully charged. With the 4S, I was noticing that it was not responding as well with this technique. I had read a few posts on this thread where people had had success by 1) "Backing up to iCloud" 2) Resetting phone 3) Restoring phone from iCloud backup 4) Fully charge phone. I did this yesterday at around 7 PM EST. Here it is 10 PM EST 1 day 3 hours later and the phone is at 58%. It is a dramatic difference from what I've seen since launch day.  Maybe not quite as good as iPhone 4 but, it is getting close since I would get down to 58% in about 12 hours, maybe less in previous days. If I can go 2 days without a charge, I am satisfied .One thing I have noticed about iPhones is that the batteries seem to get better with age. I know that sounds like the opposite but that is just my own experience. Hopefully this post will be helpful to someone.

I'm having terrible battery life as well. I restored my 4S to a backup from my 3GS (so same apps, same settings apart from what's new in iOS5 and on the 4S). I've turned off any notifications I don't need and tried to optimize the phone for battery use, but I'm still seeing about half the battery performance I would with my 3GS under similar conditions. I used to never have to charge my phone mid-day. Now by about 2pm it's dead. What's going on?

My 4s battery was draining 20% every 4 hours. I was pretty upset. So I looked at my usage and noticed that I had 9 hours of usage and 9 hours of standby time since last 100% charge. Right then I knew something was constantly draining battery. So I double tapped the home button and closed all the running apps and found this to be the issue. I figured out which app was causing this and closed it. Went to work today @ 6:30 a.m. And it is now 8:30 p.m. And I am @ 80% battery life. Checked my usage and I have 1 hour of use and 14 hours of standby time. So now I can say I am no longer upset. Love my iPhone 4s now!! Hope this helps someone!!

So i fully charged my battery and and now I'm noticing it's draining about 10% every 30 mins. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!! And all i did was browse the web for a few mins, check facebook and check emails. no phone calls, no video.

I'm getting this thing exchanged ASAP!

    @Bearsurl54:

It might be more helpful if you told us which app was the one that was causing the battery drain for you.  Which app was it?
