Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Regarding this battery drainage issue, there are only 2 things I know for sure.  First, no one on this forum (or any consumer) really knows what the true root causes are for extraordinary battery drain.  Second , we really have no idea how widespread this problem is.

    ....

Maybe some people on this forum have experience in microeletronics and they can tell us more.

Add me to the list. Bought my iPhone 4S 16GB White and several hours later noticed the issue. Once you know it's there, it becomes even more prominent. Got it replaced and the replacement has the same issue. Also, a friend just purchased his 4S a day before mine and I tested it and can confirm the issue exists with his phone as well. He purchased his from Best Buy, my orginal was purchased at AT&T and replaced at the Apple store.

Venturing a guess, it appears as though all iPhones are affected. It seems almost impossible for so many of these units, all purchased at different times and locations, to be affected in such a consistent way. The majority of users probably do not notice the static either because they can't hear it or think it's normal or simply don't want to appear crazy. When I took it to the Genius Bar the woman dialed the phone from a house line and swore to me should could hear no static. When I took the phone from her I heard it immediately, but that's because I knew what to listen to. I work in the microelectronics industry and when integrated circuits make this kind of noise, the issue tends to be related to (1) incorrect voltage or (2) a faulty component. Faulty components can continue to work within expected parameters, but will emit an electronic buzz/humm/static/whine/crackling. I'm doubtful that Apple can ever solve this issue with a software fix, but they may be able to fix it by identifying the issue and fixing it in their future production. At that stage it's probably going to be worthwhile to get a replacement -- assuming that Apple's service stock has caught up, which is definitely not going to happen for a while even after the issue has been fixed.

What really irks me is Apples silence!  A spokesperson should periodiccally address the thousands of posts regarding the battery issues as well as the crackling noise.  I've been an Apple enthusiast for many years and the handling of these problems is unacceptable.  If somebody of some influence is reading this post I welcome you to escalate this to the appropriate mediums.  Apple deserves to have the media blow up in their face and lose some credibility.  Shame on you Apple!

On a side note Apple has always been about the ease of user experience.  I don't consider this new iCloud to be user friendly.  It's a bit difficult for the average person to understand what's going on.  Yes it's seamless but it's also complicated in the sense that one doesn't know how to control the too many features available...

Apple's silence makes business sense.  Any comment they make will instantly make the subject more prominent in the media.

Interesting perspective. Meanwhile, of course, it leaves the average user with problems extremely frustrated. I do wonder if there is some middle ground they could have employed that would have helped folks like us without hurting the company.

    Hi!

Sorry if someone already posted it, but I've just found some interesting article from ZDNet (http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/test-suggests-iphone-battery-issue-not-a-hard ware-problem/16250), from which I got this excerpt:

"The app developer wanted to see if it was a hardware issue so he backed up both phones and factory reset both of them. He then restored each device with the different backup. The phone that originally had the battery problem was restored with software from the phone that didn't have a battery problem, the phone that didn't have the battery problem was restored with software from the phone that did have the battery problem. If the battery problem was caused by hardware, the same phone that had the battery problem would still have the problem, right? That wasn't the case. Instead, the battery problem jumped phones through software."

Well, the author indeed points out that this is a one sample test, but it appears to make sense anyway.

Let's see what the final conclusion will be, considering we will ever know what really happened.

    Regards.

It have been already posted some pages back..

But i think, this man could have uploaded the "good" backup, in order to let those people with problems, try to restore their iphones with this backup to solve the problem.

Do anyone know where to download a "non faulty" bakup of iphone 4s??

The only one who I remember that have completely solve the issue, is simeon D W... who could upload a backup from his Iphone to let people with "the issue", try to solve it...

    What do u think about?

    Same issue with 4S,

Some testing ive done over a week, with location services for certain apps on and push for iCloud

    • Full charge and leave over night. next morning 78% after being in standby

    • Full charge and leave over night. turn off mobile data next morning 91% after being in standby
    • Full charge and leave overnight. turn off wifi enable mobile data next morning 94% after being in standby
    • Full charge and leave overnight. turn off wifi and mobile data next morning 98% after being in standby

I think it has something to do with the fact you can no longer disable 3G. its as 3G and wifi are fighting over services..

I have been iphone fan for many years but this issue is starting to test that.. What makes it worse is my new work phone is an Samsung galaxy SII and it is putting my iPhone to shame...especially in battery life

To be honest I dont know what's going on, same settings I used b4 and drainage was let's say 3% in stand buy. Then I **** off, hard reset, no apps, airplane mode, thing still used a battery a lot. Yesturday I use it a lot, and it was like 18 hours. Today I didnt use it and its 96 now after 10 hours, 20 mins of emailnig, 3 photos, 6 minits of call, and few sms.

I hope it will stay like this
