Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Sadly I'm not even getting a day.... Maybe 6 to 8 hours (the most i eer got was 9 hours with the third one!) with two hours usage..... On Internet and Facebook and maybe a game or two of boggle... Few texts... No phone calls.... Is that really too much to expect??? I'm not sure it is!

Antsmoore... what do I expect? I don't expect a phone that only lasts 5-8 hours depending on use.  Apple store reps agree this is unacceptable.  Dont' put on siri, or retina display if it means i have to an extension cord connected to my phone.

Nokia smart phone? Symbian is not smart. There isn't too much things there to eat battery.

Be patient, after few time charged my battery getting better.

I'm not defending Apple, personally I don't give a **** who is manufacturer of my phone, just want to be smooth and usable.

In many cases, sorry to say customer dont have right.

I know you don't mean this, but isn't the Apple expected battery life when using Internet over 3G about 6 hours?  So technically you should expect a phone that lasts about 5 - 8 hours depending on some types of use.  Obviously you aren't using internet over 3G for 6 hours, so a legitimate complaint, but I think some people's expectations are too high.

The Iphone 4S problem has nothing to do with the battery.  Recharging and discharging a LiPo battery does nothing but wear it out.

I was on the 3rd phone.  Seems Apple's first option is replace the phone

I had exactly the same problem.  My phone would drain in less than 6 hours doing nothing.  The problem for me was a Yahoo email account.  For some reason the email account would never disconnect from the 3G antenna and was continually maintaining the link.  The phone would get warm and killing the app didn't help.  After I deleted the account I tried to add it again.  The same thing happened every time i tried it.  My comcast account and Gmail account work fine.

After I deleted the account everything worked.  I can get 2 days standby and 5 hours of usage with a single charge.  I'll post screen shots of usage before and after.

Yahoo isn't the problem, IOS 5 is the problem.  I have an Iphone 4 with IOS 4.3 and the exact same yahoo account is fine.

Also,  I have EVERYTHING on.  WiFi, BlueTooth, SiRi and location.  All of this does not cause the phone to get hot and drain in 6 hours.  You've got to find the app or in my case Yahoo email account that is hanging the phone!!!!!

    Hey Laura :)

Your Phone is doing just fine if you got over 6 hours of .... " Internet , Games , Or anything else besides talking on your phone "

Remember when testing your phone ... u must look at it like this....

" If you are playing games on the phone or on the internet... or even holding it in your hand with the screen on reading a book , you should receive 6 to 7 hours and sometimes even less dependinh on the apps you are using ! "

Just to have the screen on and the processor running is a hard hit on your battery!

Here is what u need to do...

( Not trying to act like a know it all )

A lot of us have battery drain problems including myself!

You need to find out if you have a battery drain issue!

How in the heck do you find out if u have a drain issue?

    Very Simple!

    1. Charge your phone to 100 percent before you go to bed!

Then take the phone off of the charger and do not open ANY APPS!

( You May Want To Power Down Your Phone And Repower It to make sure all Apps are really closed)

So now go to sleep with your phone turned ON with no apps running!

Wake up in the morning and grab your phone!

Look at the battery percentage! ( Make sure u can see your battery life as a percentage and not just the icon, u can have your phone display the percentage by going to settings, and turning the option on )

Check out your battery percentage when u wake up!

It Should Still be anywhere from 95 to 100 percent!

If it is anything less , you have a battery drain issue!

If u find out that u have a drain issue then u have to start changing settings on your phone.

Make a note on a piece of paper and write down what setting u changed!

Then keep testing until u find out u do not have the drain issue!

It may be 1 specific setting for u , or it may be 2 or 3 different settings!

I found that a big drain for me was the time zone setting!

When the Update came out I was thinking..." ahh now i can set my phone back to change time zones automatically because i was sure apple fixed that being it was specifically a problem and the news even reported it!

But even with their update u have to set your phone to not change time in different time zones!

Most people want to forget that this is a telephone!

If u use your phone for what it is... A PHONE , and not a computer... you will see that u will have great battery life!

    Rule Of Thumb!

If You Are Going to use your phone as a computer or a video game system then I advise you to plug your phone into the wall!

    1. If you are out and about , just use it as a phone!

    2. Plug it up if u are playing games!

    It...... Is........ That....... Simple!

I promise if u follow my rules u will get more out of your phone!

Just make sure u find out if your battery is draining by following my steps!

I have been watching my iPhone 4S on this for a few days now, sometimes it drains really quickly other times it is just like the iPhone 4.

The conclusion I have come to is that fast drain is caused when there is access to a wifi network, ie it does it when i am at home, or in the office, but is fine when i am out of the office and just using the 3G network.

There is clearly a bug somewhere.

So sorry I wrote my post quite quickly... It's the fifth one and I am doing about two hours usage with 6 to 8 hours standby.... (not usage... Wish it was!!!) I have the latest firmware with build 9A406... And everything off... Siri... All parts of location.... Everything. I've read and done every single thing on the forum.... Only thing I need to do is run this newest phone flat.... It's currently on 7 hrs  06 mins with 1 hour 38 usage and on 13%.... Then will try another restore as new phone and see if any better....

It must be either the software or all phones are this useless....

Thanks for all your suggestions and support... Does anyone actually know anyone with "good" usage??? Starting to think it doesn't actually exist as everyone I know with a 4S had the same battery life as the barrage of phones that O2 keep sending me!!!! All I want is to cancel my two year, very expensive contract and go back to me 3GS with 2 days battery.... O2 just keep sending me this one again and again and again!!!!

    Good luck everyone!

georgethegreek... You don't have to have dangling wires, just a power case.

antsmoore... I do have a power case but I am literally terrified to have this phone away from a power source even with the case connected to it.  This isn't right. My brother has the Iphone 4 and he is fine without a power case.  There is no excuse for such a huge discrepancy.  I am stunned that apple has not tackled this yet.

Furthermore when I am out on the go.  I really think twice about using it.  I used to be a regular user of justin.tv and tuneinradio or NHL Game centre... not any more.  sigh! I am really thinking of dumping this phone.

Yes, I deleted iCloud, and Yahoo! only Gmail left, on manual. Screen brightness over sensor. I still have that static noise, siri is off, location service off. Today I had 15 mins of call, still it's getting warm after heavy use, lets say 30 emails, 10 minuets of browsing, 10 photos.
