Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

If Apple came forward and said they're working on a solution to these problems it would put everybody's mind at ease.  Now, if they don't have a solution nor do they think they'll have a solution than I think it does make good business sense to stay quiet.  Without a solution I think they'll face a class action suit of some sorts...  Let's hope it doesn't come to that!

Well, if they stay quiet and leave this issue like this, even if I personally don't have a problem, it's matter of Principe and I'll go for my money to company who make their costumers happy. I thought Apple is like that. For 700 Euros I'm sure there is company like that.

I agree for the money being spent on these phones you would (a) expect them to be properly tested first and (b) if something comes up to see them stand behind their product or work towards a solution and keep their customers happy

Personally I think this complaining is completely fair. Firstly I know the iPhone 4s is daul core but we still shouldn't being this amount of drain. I had my phone at 100% when I went to bed, woke up and it was at 72% and this was with most options turned off. Compared with my iPhone 4 which I had pretty much everything turned on and I would wake up with about 97%. Secondly we pay alot of money for these phones and I expect it to be working and not have problems like these. Especially when it's stated to last alot longer on paper. I don't want to have to use my iPhone with most options turned off, It's not what I brought it for. But my iPhone lasting less than one day with hardly any use is just joke. This is quite possibly the last iPhone I ever buy.

I got my iphone 4s two days ago. The battery life is terrible. I closed almost everything but it still drops very fast -- can't imagine Apple let this happen. Really hope Apple will come up with some real solutions asap.

the iphone 4s is my 1st Apple Product Ever!

I am amazed with the phone but i was disappointed because the only reason i switched from Android and went with a smaller screen was because people told me that the iphone had great battery life!

well i payed 699 + 50 dollars tax at best buy and got

A Smaller Screen And Worse Battery Life!

    I feel abused!

Well for some reason I am not having all these problems with the battery. I have the iPhone 4S got it two weeks ago and the battery lasts me all day.  I charge it at night and use the clock for an alarm clock to wake up.  I pull it off the charger and off I go I make about 10- 15 calls a day, some last 30-45 min.  I only have about 110 songs on it and also play them in between calls.  I did however shut down all the Push items and all the tickers such as stocks CNN news updates. By 6:00 pm my battery would still be about 60-70%. Now on my wife's phone which I to the same time was running the battery down to about 50% by mid day until I shut down all the push items.  Maybe that would help, worth a try

Laura, Have you tried the reset process from another thread  in the Apple forums? See here if interested but below is the fix.     https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3484755

Its a simple process and has worked for a LOT of folks. Only takes a few minutes (other than the batt drain and recharge). Follow precisely.

    1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)

2 a. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)

2 b. If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)

    3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd (settings -> location services -> system services)

    4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)

    5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

This is decent/normal right? I'm on my 2nd charge. (Bought phone Dec 17, its now Dec 21) (See page 500 for my 1st day)

This is with fairly heavy use with music (mostly), internet, texting, camera, downloading and playing with apps, a long phone call, Siri use.

That seems pretty decent for any smartphone.

I've tried doing the update you suggested with the file you posted.
Let's see if it improves my IPHONE 4S. Or else, I think I might just return my Iphone 4s and get an ANDROID GALAXY.

Keep us posted. The update is also available direct from Apple and via iTunes. Doing the restore option in iTunes should pull down the 906 version.

    I've updated my 4S to iOS 5.0.1 Build 9A406.

I will let you know if something has improved or not.

DID YOU RESTART YOUR PHONE AFTER THE UPDATE OR JUST UPDATED AND THAT'S IT?

Really like to go back to iPhone 4 since it provides the good battery and allow me to turn off 3G. Quite disappoint with 4S.

    Here is my latest.

Bluetooth always on, WIFI always on

Mostly listening to audio books, reading Kindle, Verizon's NFL Moble App, 10-20 Emails, 3-5 short phone calls.

Did a manual restore of the latest firmware and have applied most of the "fixes" posted here.
