Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

a picture another when it gets to 20%

the main differance for me has been to use the power button

to place the unit to standby when i just used it

and not to allow any gaps

ive used google earth for 1hr of my usage

and browsers and about 1 1/2 hrs of calls and texts

    3g = disabled

    no bluetooth

    screen set to 80%

    wifi as needed

unit set to standby after use using the power button and it clicks and shut down

all apps i use now installed

skype the bank msn google and earth and some camera apps etc

no games yet.... not one for games...

    {there is a games menu bug that the games fail once deleted from the games center and leave accepts behind}

if you use games or extensive tunes get a psp and a itouch

or use the power cable and a bat pack at least !!!

This is my second iPhone 4s.(Verizon) My last try at trying to "fix" the issues consisited of the following: (not sure the order is correct)

download the latest firmware 9A406  iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw

Did a shift restore in iTunes (PC), selected the .ipsw file that I downloaded

Set phone up as new and reloaded the apps that I wanted

set up my email accounts: gmail. I forward my msn and hotmail account to my icloud and account and set up my     iCloud account on the phone

dialed *228 (again I'm on Verizon)and chose option 2 (either option 1 or 2 should work)

    did a network reset

set my options to what I wanted

         Fetch mail hourly

Screen brightness at 50%, auto brightness on

Notifications phone, message, reminders, calendar, mail all set to display in notification screen, view in lock           screen, show preview on.

Rest of apps have show in notification center turned off

         Location services

System services - cell network search, compass calibration, traffic = on

              Rest of them = off

WiFi and Bluetooth almost always on

    Reset phone

I have not drained the battery since I did the firmware upgrade.

I now use like like I did my iPhone 4 and not really worry changing the settings any more. I can usually go 2 days before recharging.

thats very good and fits to my stats etc

    your icloud is lit up

so you must have 3g enabled no wifi???

icloud is a backup and dont leave 3g or wifi enabled ... unless you need it

or every change hits icloud and your allowances

this is why we need a set of adjustable icons on the phones itop

to allow quick  'ievent' setup and disable to a set state using one icon

it must be easy to write this in a few lines of code using the phones api and sdk

Is this update for any iPhone 4s and any carrier. Why does it not show up as an update for my phone when I ask about software updates

At least in US if you do not satisfy with the phone you can return it and get the refund. This is not the case in Malaysia, in which the iPhone that I bought is not returnable nor refundable. So no matter how bad is the iPhone is, I have to bear with it or just sell it off at lower price.

I had an iPhone 4, which I very satified and that's the reason I upgraded it to iPhone 4S hoping that Apple can do way better than its predecessor. One thing about 4S that really annoying is that Apple removed the 3G signal On/Off switch from 4S, which I usually toggle off the to preserve battery life. I am not sure the exact reason Apple remove this option, some of the people in this forum said it is due to the new Qualcomm chip, some said is due to Apple wants to make sure their customers have good experience with Siri, which requires a good internet connection to work. Come on Apple, Siri can't even understand Malaysian-accented English!

I am hoping the next update will include back to 3G on/off switch, or maybe Apple can also give us an option to turn off automatic antenna switching, which I believe has something to do with battery drain problem. Otherwise, this iPhone will be my last one and will consider switching to other smartphone if I got better options!

From everything I have read the new update does not include a battery fix. Apparently the programmers are saying the new update is making the issue even worse. It seems Apple is going backwards. If this is the case , I believe it could be the downfall for Apple. People are going to begin jumping ship if this is the case. My best numbers have been 6 hrs usage and about 28 standby. Now the fact that I can't get a day of usage to me is pretty sad. I've tried everything that I have read on here and other threads. The only thing I have not done was remove my SIM card. I have sprint service and we do not use sim cards so unless you are traveling it would seem you don't need one. Anyone know if this is correct?

Are you speaking of iOS 5.1 Beta 2? Of course like anything there are mixed reviews but its still a beta so cannnot really determine until the final. Beta software will have diagnistics on and all sorts of things coulr be different before the released version.  These messages are mostly referring to the new iOS 5.0.1 release for the sim card issues (9A406). It appears that a several people are updating to that and either the process of a fresh iOS install or the new version is seeming to help with battery. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148

Also 6 hr use and 28 hr stdby is pretty good.

Like you, I am a Yahoo user and had the very same battery issues. My phone is 2 weeks old and I was dropping 1% charge every 4-5 minutes. I called the Apple Service Line and got connected to Advanced Support. I read your post to them and explained what was happening to my phone. It was not hanging up, continually searching for email updates. The rep was great and we worked through the issue.by changing the SMTP to smpt.att.yahoo.com and changing the host to pop.att.yahoo.com. It took a few tries and emails back and forth while on the phone but it works great. All day battery life on a single charge.

    Hope this helps.

I want to try that RESET thingy to see if it can improve my stats. (Page 500 and Page 509)

    Here is my 100 - 99%

Umm you seems to have pretty good results. I believe I would leave well enough alone. What are you thinking you should be getting? Both of your posts seem to have pretty amazing battery. I doubt the reset will hurt but also really doubt it will help in your case. You already have excellent stats so I believe I would enjoy the phone and not risk screwing something up (The old "dont fix whats not broken" rule)

[EDIT] Actually I think maybe you are trying to screw with the others here that actually have a problem. I believe those are photoshopped screen shots.

I'll take that as a compliment and not to change my settings for now. I was kinda hoping like 8h usage with 1 1/2 days standby. Like this stats right above.

*This is my first iGadget so I had no idea how to compare. But judging how everyone who owned a 4 is saying the battery is nowhere near it, then it must be sucky.

**Do the Battery Apps work or help? The one where you have to open while charging and stuff.

I almost always leave wifi and 3G (and bluetooth) on at all times. Your are right about needing the quick icons, that's why I leave them turned on, too much of pain to turn off. I could probably get better battery life by turning them off, but......

It is for any carrier. if you ugraded to the first 5.01 it may not show up. Someone posted if you plug into itunes and do a restore, you will get the latest firmware, but I have not tried that since I did a manual upgrade.

HAHA you should! Yeah that is awesome from what I have seen reported. So you should be pleased with those results. The battery apps are not much to them I dont think. I mean it may report more of whats going on but it certainly is not going to increase battery life or make it charge faster or whatever. More likely to decrease because you will be opening the app to look at it all the time.  Enjoy your iPhone (iGadget) and thanks for sheading some hope that the 4s can actually  be an awesome phone.  I hope it continues for you.

BTW I personally dont know anyone who is not very pleased with their 4 or 4s and I know quite a few ,myself included. (even tho i dont get YOUR batt life).  Wish ALL users has that same experience with theirs.

this to me sounds unbelievable. Lucky you. I am going to return mine. Standby: 1 day 3 hours; usage: 6 hours. 14% left. Closed all the apps. Wifi and data off. Location off. I've tried everything mentioned in this forum.

Come on now. So are you making a joke or are you really thinking that Apple thinks as long as folks see a large number % at the top then all is fine. And no one will really know that their phone battery was really dead in a short period of time. lol. Apple does have some awesome power of suggestion but I dont think they are THAT good. Although Steve Jobs did have that trait about him.
