Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I didnt mentioned... but I have iphone 4s and I have bougth it in november... since then there were days when my phone lasted 2 days... 3 days.. depending on how much i was using it and what apps i used. In background mostly is open settings, calls and messages. The rest I close them after I have finished using them.

I meant the texts become ur alerts then u just open the mail, Facebook, twitter etc apps as needed. It's a little different but we obviously can't have it 100% perfect with the 4s if u want battery life.

    Hi everybody,

I saw that some of you posted images of how long lasted their phone..

I want to post mine too...

    IMG_0111[1].PNG

I have the following setting on my phone...

WiFi & Cellular Data are off... I only use them when I need.

    Notifications: there is only weather, phone, messages, reminders, calendar & viber;

Locations services are On, except for siri and Find my Iphone

System services are activated only for Compass Calibration & Setting Time Zone (still I wonder if this can be deactivated)

Mail are set to manual (no fetch & no push) and I have 6 mail accounts added.

IClound is on only for mail.

    Facetime off (dont use it)

Siri is off (dont use it)

Bluetooth is off (I have only the iphone...  what other devices I can use to sync/send via bluetooth)

    Restrictions are not enabled

I have used the phone mostly for talking, texting, listening to music, and connected a few times internet using wifi & 3g.

    So what do you think?

It looks to me that you are using mainly your iPhone 4S as a dumb phone and not like a smart phone! This explains why you have such a good battery life compared with others posting here on the forum!!!

WiFi & Cellular Data are off... I only use them when I need.

You are telling to your smartphone when to connect to internet and when not! A smartphone is supposed to do this by itself without being told.

    Notifications: there is only weather, phone, messages, reminders, calendar & viber;

What is the point of weather in notifications if you are not connected to the internet with the phone?

IClound is on only for mail.

What is the point of iCloud if you are not connected to the internet with the phone?

I have used the phone mostly for talking, texting, listening to music, and connected a few times internet using wifi & 3g.

I guess that your internet usage (wifi & 3G) is in range of minutes within 4 days. Even in the above screen shot you are you are not connected to the internet thru Wifi or 3G. This is why you have such a good battery life  (double) compared to others here!

For what you are using your phone it looks to me that you could have gotten a way cheaper phone than iPhone 4S that does exactly the same things you are doing!

I think that you and the way you use your iPhone 4S are the perfect example of why most of the people who bought iPhone 4S do not complain that iPhone 4S has a miserable battery life.

    So what do you think?

I think that more than 4 days of battery life as you got is very good for any phone. I think that because you do not need all the advanced features and you do not need to be connected to the internet all the time a cheaper phone would have been a better choice for you (unless you want to brag about your shiny new iPhone 4S).

If you check older posts... you will see that there are some users that have similar configuration as mine and have shoter battery life... also i have mentioned that there were days when my phone lasted only for a couple of days and had the same usage as before... and mostly I connect to internet via wifi.

I didnt buy this phone to brag about it, nor to play games with it as other iphone user.. i bought it because I want to use it for what it can offer... and while I am at work... I dont see why should I have any data connection on the phone while I have it on my pc...

I didnt questioned your way of using your phone... but if you complain, why don't you share your way of using your phone?

And we can see if your battery drain is because of hardware/software issue or because of intesive usage... if its the latter... then you cannot have any reason to complain

I was referring to your settings and not to others people' settings.

    Ok.

i bought it because I want to use it for what it can offer...

Then turn on the Wifi and Cellular Data and keep them On all the time!

I dont see why should I have any data connection on the phone while I have it on my pc...

    Then don't!

I didnt questioned your way of using your phone...

I didn't ask any questions from you!

but if you complain, why don't you share your way of using your phone?

Wifi and 3G are on all the time!

And we can see if your battery drain is because of hardware/software issue

intesive usage... if its the latter...

I suggest that one could reset all the settings to the factory settings (Location Services are ON) and connect to 3G and Wifi and leave the iPhone 4S in standby. One would be surprised how long the battery will last (=> few hours only)!

then you cannot have any reason to complain

I will complain until Apple fixes the battery life of iPhone 4S and/or iOS 5.X.X/6.X.X such that it has the same battery life like iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.

Did anyone else notice the large increase in APPS Updates over the last couple of days?   Ususally, that is a precursor to a software update of some sort, so maybe 5.1 is nearing release.........   Fingers Crossed!

You will be supprised if a fix will go out restore the battery life of your IPhone 4S with IOS 5 to one having installed IOS 4.3. My suggestion is to go to apple and request an Iphone 4S with IOS 4.3 installed... or give you and IOS 5xx having the same core as IOS 4.3... maybe this will help

I am not taking apple's side and I realize that the battery is pretty poor, but you have to take into consideration many other factors

And I know if I do a restore to default settings (which I did once acording to some one from this forum) the battery will last less .. but many settings that are on... why not turning off if you dont need them.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 4S comes to my country (Brazil) at an astronomical price,

pages on the forum increased significantly from day to day, depending on the

complaints about the battery life and us mere mortals (users)

hands are tied we see the burden of our battery fall all day

and yet, there is no news of an upgrade (IOS 5.0.2 or 5.1) that solves

our problem. On the contrary, as the rumors say that the

beta anything about the battery life has been corrected. I

extremely sorry to have upgraded to the "operating system more

    advanced in the world. "

    It´s a joke, isn´t it?

Anyway certainly you dont have the really poor performance others here are talking about. And Apple is still tweaking iOS to further improve.

I keep seeing people saying Apple are working on improving the battery life. But there's nothing from Apple to say they actually are doing so.

Well they issued a statement just after the first 5.0.1 release that said they are "still looking into a few remaining issues". So I would take that to mean that perhaps the next update would address ot some update in the future. From what I understand, they have historically had battery issues after each major iOS release that were eventually addressed. I suspect we will see something soon when 5.1 releases.

Here's something that may help battery life on iPhone 4S:  CLOSING UNUSED APPS

    1. After you have the phone unlock and are on your home screen, double click quickly the Home button. At the bottom of the screen there should be a single line of 4 of your icons (these are open applications currently running on your phone), scrolling to the left will show additional open apps.
    2. Hold any one app icons down for a second or two and all the app icons start wiggling. Note a red circle with a white dash in the middle of it, top left of each icon.
    3. Taping that red circle with a white dash closes that application. Once you have closed the apps not in use, tap the Home button and screen returns to normal. NOTE, if there is a red circle with a white X  in it, that symbolizes delete, which you probably don't want to do. Return to home screen and start again.
    4. After closing the apps, you can open them as usual, just tap on the icon on your Home screen. Even with the Phone app closed, any incoming calls will automatically open the app.
    5. Hope this helps, it did for me.

I replaced my phone once at the Apple store and did everything mentioned in terms of notifications/location services, apps, etc. I also have run it down twice and booted it back up to 100%. I am happy to report it is much better. I am now at 1% battery with usage of 6 hours, 56 minutes and standby of 3 days, 1 hour. I found that after running it down each time and booting it back up the battery life continued to improve.

I have battery problems too, as I have mentioned in earlier posts. The only thing I have noticed is that if I switch off cellular data, the battery drains normally, or at an acceptable rate. This is after I did a complete reset and updated to 5.0.1 (9A406). I can still hear the static noise in my phone, but it is not as intense as when the cellular data is on. I guess I will switch it on when needed, but keep it off most of the time, until Apple releases a fix, or do a hardware recall. I give them until 5.1 and if it is the same after that I will start to exchange my phone until I get a working phone.

I have everything on except for bluetooth, Siri and a couple of location services. I'm fed up with all this trouble this phone has brought me.

so far so good when it gets to 20% and moans ill plug it in

too usb not the fast charge plug

its for eeek i need a fast charge day.. or two... !!

then il upload more tunes to it from my collection

    as it charges...

i think nearly 4 days is aok...from 1 full charge from flat and i am happy

and my phone when flattened after the out the box charge rundown

did NOT turn on at any %

    till i pressed the button

so everything 3d screens and chipset was set as inital charge

and this pics and previous posts are the 1st first full charge readouts

dont just blank the firmware and reinstall.. this is daft  you must follow the cycles of the battery or you fry its life span

like a person who handles an ic unearthed

    its the same rules

turn off all the crap ..

just turn off the hungry chips and features till you need them  for sure

i expect this from any non external powered device

i expect faults in software if there is no faults i expect jesus wrote it on a hill with the seven brothers

i cloud is for backup so is 3g

why backup till say 20 days of use or something

this is daft and uses your bandwidth

better stick to turing it off till your ready to backup

    so

    so 3g

    no bluetooth

    no wifi

    unless you need it

i feel 4days + at least another day or two on 20% emergency tank

    is cool

and i will take this phone up many munro's here in scotland with some degree of trust...

    i will take a 6 X D cell backup...and i think a snow battery also
