Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Anyone with Vodafone UK?  Have a Xmas present for someone - 10 pound pay as you go credit:

<removed as it looks like someone was able to use it already>

Have it left over from a recent trip and will not use it.

Hope someone can put it to good use!

I knew there was a reason I subscribed to this thread, that 12 digit number was worth wading through all the pages of people claiming they've "solved it"

Thanks Zooomy, Merry Christmas my friend

    Early results of 9a406:

10% battery gone (just limited wifi surfing):

    Usage - 1 Hour, 1 minute

    Standby - 1 Hour 26 minuts

    Doesn't seem much better.

Hey everyone, well all here we have the same story; we´ve done all the things we read or heard (no matter how crazy or illogical sounds) to get a better performance of our battery life......but notthing happens. I¨m still wondering why apple doesn´t seems to be taking care about whats saying on the net; because  upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 didn´t fix the problem. So I think we must to wait until they have an official statement and solution for this problem, while...... recharge every time we need

hey guys again! After applying the 9A406 build as NEW I got this results whih are much better than before.. I have everything ON except bluetooth + Cellular Data. I also want to add that as you can see my wifi is off.. The wifi was turned off for about 4-5 hours total because I wasnt home. In my case when i updated to the newest build I have left it to drain to 0% and then charged it at 100%. I believe that this are good results. Before I was getting 7 hours usage. I believe updating to latest firmware as NEW did the work for me!

As promised, I woke up with 2% left it was 8% before I went to sleep. Roughly 8-9hrs of sleep. I hit 1% so I'll upload it.

BUT.. I wasn't particularly happy with this usage. WHY? I attended a party in which I had little to no coverage, I saw my battery drain 1% in 15mins. Isn't that really weird? It also happened over to Internet thru Wi-Fi. Maybe 1%/20mins. I don't know if its NORMAL but I find it disturbing that when I'm surfing, and see my battery drop.

    Usage with this are

    50% Internet over Wi-Fi

    15% Texting

    10% Music

    10% App use / Download

    10% Playing with Siri

    5% Call (40mins call)

I also reset as new phone once because I was envious of the others that are getting ~2days standby.

    Page 500, 509, 515 for previous usages.

EDIT: Just found out that I have the same DNS and IP buxbuster is talking about.

I did yesterday and changed a new one. But up to now, no big differences. I asked several of my friends who are using iphone 4s too. Some of them returned and changed a new one but nothing happened -- no differences.

I know how to reset the phone and set it up as a new iPhone, but how am I supposed to restore all of my apps, notes, calendar, contacts, photos, music, etc, to my iPhone after the reset without restoring from backup over iTunes or iCloud?

i tried this fix from Buxbusters change router/ dns settings if they are the same. it causes a loop so i chaged my dns to a different setting and hey presto battery life increased dramaticaly. well worth a try guys if you have the same settings, check out buxbusters posts for more info.

My black Verizon 16gb 4s doesn't seem to have the battery issue during standby. I can leave it next to me, wake up the next morning and only lose 2-3% so that seems okay.

My issue comes when im actually using the phone. I have location services only for important apps (weather, siri, navigation apps, etc). Only two accounts, icloud (all services turned on) and gmail (only email). Push is turned OFF and fetch is set to hourly for my iCloud and Gmail. Bluetooth is always off because i never use it, wifi is turned off when i leave the house. Notifications only for phone, calendar, messages, and mail, and badges for words with friends.

The battery drains 10% with 30 minuts of usage,IMG_0049.PNG

I have the newest build and modem number whatever. I also have a system monitor app and observation of the running processes and CPU strain reveals nothing abnormal. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY PHONEEE? I am almost scared to use it because its battery drains so DARN QUICKLY.

Apple NEEDS to address this. This is ridiculous.

EDIT: I've done every tweak imaginable, almost all system location services are turned off. Ive checked all the indivudual apps to make sure they arent using any push notifications.

i have a 4s. & if you use Siri alot that drains your battery. my friend was playing around with Siri for 45min & then the battery was pretty much dead. also app running in the backround can do it. so i close them out once every other day.

If you use the "reset all settings" option and "setup as new" option when it reboots, it keeps all your data and apps and a restore is not needed. Dont use the erase and reset as that will destroy your data. Follow the process below from Davidch

    1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)

2 a. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)

2 b. If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)

    3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd (settings -> location services -> system services)

    4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)

    5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!
