Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have been getting to this discussion thread since it was started by searching " iPhone 4s battery life" on google.com and this discussion was the first result. Now it's been moved to page three of search results.

The first page shows blogs and news articles such as "how to fix battery problems in 5 min" or " iPhone battery issues are overblown".

I won't be surprised if apple is covering this up so new customers won't find this thread. I have worked at a company that have done this before (successfully)

Interesting subnote. I have been having the issue where phone charges to 100% and stays that way all night until about 6:50 to 7:15 every day it will drop to 97% while plugged in. I can check at different times of night if I happen to get up and its at 100%. After 7:15  i see it at 97% so unplug and plug then by time I am out of shower and ready for day its up to 100 again and all is well. Same time every day and same results. Been trying to see what may be happening at that time daily and cannot see anything. backups are like 11:00pm. Anyway after reading your post I thought maybe I would turn off wifi totally after my backup runs and see what happens. I stopped using wifi sync several weeks ago, didnt see the need for it. Well this morning I woke to 100%! So obviously its something to do with wifi, at least  at this point it would appear so. Only 1 test. This was like clockwork. I can look at 6:50 and see 100% and at 7:15 and its at 97%  then rest of day dont seem to have issues. So I will report back but I did change my router back to the ISP's DNS and not the routers address even though I didnt not seem to have issues with it. (I posted earlier about that and have the DLINK similar to yours). So off to see what the heck is going on daily at that time of day with wifi causing iPhone to go nuts JUST for that 20 to 30 minutes of time.

Well this is now IPhone 4S #3 in less than 2 weeks.  Still seeing drop off of 7-10% per hour on standby. The apple store rep did tell me a patch is coming and if I can make it thru the day to grin and bear it until the patch is released.  He also said some users have had no problems.  I have a 3GS that I have not updated to iOS 5 yet so I may just switch to that for now

I have also downloaded the latest version 5.0.1 9a406. Still loosing 5% per hour on almost a standby mode. Though there was a slight improvement. I was traveling last week and switched off the roaming and WLAN. The battery clearly lasted longer. That said why bother with an iPhone my old sonyericsson 610i lasted 3 days with more functionalities.

I lost confidence in Apple. What they did in the last month is simpy i acceptable. Even OS lion is a downgrade versus snow. So many applications don't work anymore (ms office, Nikon transfer etc.) and iCloud just not worth mobileMe.

I'm paying a high price for Apple products and expect a respective quality. Just not getting it anymore. Maybe time to switch back to windows and androids.

Oh My Gosh... the battery bug is simply killing me. This is my first iphone, and im really impressed. But with the battery draining at this rate, even if the fix came, the quality of the battery would have already decreased drastically with so many charges.

    @svwvk

Indeed I am amazed the instead of the numerous issues of iPhone 4s neither of them is mentioned in the main stream media or newspaper. All issues of iPhones 4s are getting burried deep into the forums and they are not even acknowledged officially by apple!  More then two months has passed and still Apple is not working on fixing these issues!

I strongly advice anyone against buying a iPhone4s!!! I think that iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3 is a much better and also cheaper than iPhone 4s!!!

The issues which iPhone 4s has are:

    - miseable baterry life when one uses cellular data and wifi (most likely is a hardware issue)

    - static noise issue (hardware issue and it affects 80% of iPhone 4s)

    - unexpected larger phone bills due to iPhone 4s connecting to internet using 3g celullar data instead of wifi even if one is connected all the time to wifi

    - wifi sync (see DNS bug)

    - .....

I hope to be able to help, perhaps my solution will help you too.

Going from iphone4 to 4S, after the backup, I noticed that the battery is dischargedquickly. I did a restore and set Iphone4s scratch. Then I deleted all apps from iTunes, except for a fee, and re-installed one by one from appstore phone. In a later update, Iset the contacts, then the pictures, calendars, and then ever
