Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have been reading these forums on the poor battery life of the iphone 4s, which I just got a week ago. I will say that the battery life is poorer than the iphone 4 I had. I'm hoping Apple will fix this! I also have seen posts about the firmware update to 9A406 and was wondering where it says that this update would do anything to the battery life? My phone has 9A405. Any thoughts?

It's iOS 5, it's causing almost all iPhone 4s to have terrible battery life ! I had no problem with my battery but when I updated to ios 5.0.1 its rediculus how much my battery drains, apple said they fixed it in the new beta of ios 5.1 but a lot of beta testers are saying it didn't fix it, so the only thing we can do is wait for apple to fix their mistake

You can restore from iTunes and it will pull down. Nothing special you have to do. It should ask to backup bit you may want to backup manually first to be safe.

It doesnt really state that its for battery life. It was for SIM card issues but a lot of people are seeing better battery results after upgrading to it. Maybe SIM card issues were adding to the drain. Who knows but have seen a lot of posts indicating the 406 helped their battery. Maybe it is just the reset of fresh firmware thats really helping but whatever if it helps then thats great.

I tried to install 9A406 on my phone. My sprint phone wouldn't re-activate after I installed the software. It was looking for a sim card. I didn't even have one in the phone. I then called apple and sprint an both said to go to the other. I finally went to apple and they had to replace my phone. So I'm not sure about this update or what it's supposed to do or why it did that with my phone. The new phone I have gets much better life than my previous one, however, not near the battery life advertised. I'm not sure any more updates are coming to be honest. I'm sure apple is focusing on the iPhone 5 and thinking if they have a big hardware change, and maybe a new look, then people will forget about this and line up to buy it.

My iPhone 4S battery was really messy, especially after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1.

It lasts less than 16 hours after a full-night charging and with a moderate use as a phone.

I have attempted to turn-off the 3G but this improved things only slightly.

I do not use Siri and I use the internet basically over WiFi. Both iPhones are the 32GB version and I have charged them the exact same way

I turned back to my iPhone 4 and I have shut down my iPhone 4S because it does not offer me anything at all compared to the 4 phone (which by the way is a marvellous phone)

I hope that Apple will do something about the iOS in order to improve the 4S battery life, otherwise it is a complete waste of time and money for me!

After performed full restore my 4S to 5.0.1(9A406), the battery still drain very fast. I followed one of the post here to reset all settings, the battery life seemed getting better for a while. 3 days later, the draining is coming back again. I fully charged my phone to 100%, and just in standby mode, the battery dropped from 100% to 95% in less than an hour without any activity!

    I have already

turned off all system services in location service

    mail changed to manual fetch

brightness at around 35% with auto brightnessn off

In order to eliminate this bug, I have also

    Turn off Siri

    Delete iCloud account

Basically what I did is to switch off all the cool features in iOS 5 and make it a iOS 4, now the battery drain is around 1-2% an hour. I am not sure what else I can do? I spend RM2590(~USD809) to buy the 4S hoping that this phone can do way better than iPhone 4S. But the fact is I have to turnoff all the features in the new phone in order to preserve battery life, which is worse than iPhone 4! In Malaysia there is no such thing as return the phone and get a refund, all the iPhone sold are not refundable, so all those folks that suffer battery drain problem in Malaysia are like an idi0t paying premium price to buy a substandard product.

Maybe Steve Jobs was right, Tim Cook is not a product guy, he just care about how much iPhone Apple sold, but won't give a **** about the quality of the phone. It's been more than 2months but nothing is being done by Apple to rectify this problem.

Yep, Apple have screwed up with the 4S/iOS 5. The worst thing being their arrogant silence on even acknowledging an the multiple issues. There's no fix announced to be coming in any information released so far.

So there's only two things people can do  - change to a device that works and report Apple for misleading advertising. There's not a single 4S owner out there getting anything close to advertised battery life.
