Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Check your Email, Make sure your email is not self checking itself. Some iphones are set to do it on their own like every five minutes, try that. Change in your settings, to manual, that will save tons of bater, turn off all notifications, and when in a area with low or not very much coverage turn your phone on to airplane mode, iphones are meant to keep in touch with service as much as possible, so they use a lot more battery.

Airplane mode? Once upon a time (when Apple was still a good company), I was able to manually toggle between 2/3g- therefore when 3g reception *****- I was still able to use iPhone as a PHONE.

One more thing, switching cellular data off just stop your iphone from accessing data- it doesn't change ur signal to 2g. This has been mentioned a thousand times and people still don't get it. Now cmon- repeat after me--- "switching my cellular data off doesn't mean my iPhone will switch to 2g mode" ..... For those people who still don't get it- repeat this a thousand time- you'll eventually understand.

There're people who are working or living in area where 3g signal is extremely poor. This 4s suppose to auto switch to 2g in such condition. Unfortunately it doesn't and as a results of poor signal- the 4s drains like a mutha. For people who are fortunately enough to get excellent 3g signal all the time- this doesn't affect u at all- so please reserve ur comments to urselves. I've seen people commenting that it is totally unnecessary to use 2g - and with all the features of the 4s- switchin to 2g seems silly. Irritates the **** outta me.

I felt so silly getting the 4s, except for the camera- which is a definite improvement- nothing new is introduced. Siri is pretty much useless outside the states if you don't speak english. The processor althought duo core is only marginally better than iphone 4. Battery *****, no option to toggle between 2/3g.

I bought the 4s becOz I like the experience of my previous iPhone and want to continue supporting Apple. Despite the smaller screen relatively to other smart phones out there, despite the price, dispite the queue I had to endure, despite being call an fanboy- chosing apple for the last coupe of year- I have faith in this company and its product. I am going to tell everyone I knOw not to get the 4s. Apple, be sure that I'll do that. You have a chance to salvage this- you chose to remain silent- not a word of apology- nothing!

In my country, there is no return policy and really- this is an expensive lesson for me. Never trust Apple.

You have to "restore" via iTunes.

How do I do that? And will it keep all of my information in my phone?

Plug your iPhone to your computer and click the restore button on the iPhone overview page.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148

But i would recommend you to restore as a new iPhone and not restore from a previous backup afterwards.

Plug your iPhone into the cable connected to your PC. Open iTunes, select the "restore " option on the main iphone screen. It will offer to backup your phone first then it will offer to restore after its finished. Or you can right click on your iPhone and select backup if you want to manually backup your device first.

Go into iTunes and do a backup. Use the Option Key and then click on Check for Update. What I did was to download the new firmware update to my Mac desktop (9A406) then did the above procedure with the option key etc. to select that firmware update. Possibly if you don't download the update it will still go and get it but I didn't do it that way. Hope this helps.

But unless I restore from backup, I won't have my apps, notes, contacts, pictures, music, etc, would I? And I really need those. I have hundreds of apps and it would take days to download every app again one by one. Not to mention the calendar and dozens of notes that I also need and the contacts...you get the point. How do I go about that?

My advice: restore iphone4s like new (no icloud, noitunes); not upgrade from backup. Then install all the applications, contacts, etc..

This is a bad situation for the heavy iPhone users because they have a lot of data they need to keep, such as you.  So there are two ways to go about this.  One, manually re-enter everything.  You can use the application called 'Bump' and transfer stuff.  Two, just transfer your contacts and what not through a backup, and re-add all apps and what not manually.

If someone doesn't mind, can anyone tell me if my iPhone 4S usage/standby is any good?  I've deep cycled my iPhone a few times and have seen a little improvement.  I have pretty much everything off except iCloud backups. Battery is getting no where after 5-6 hours.

If your only trying to do the firmware update, just do as I said in my post to you Pichu21. It has no affect on your apps etc., only gives you the newer build.

Ok, then restore your phone to the new version and restore it from a backup later on. If this doesn't bring any improvement, try restoring as a new iPhone and add your stuff manually.
