Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I'm not sure if there is a way to keep text messages, mine are all gone (which doesn't bother me too much because I've only had the phone two days and haven't had many messages anyway lol) All my contact phone numbers are gone though, but I knew that would happen which is why I wrote them down on paper before hand. Just got to put them all back in now. Everything else is rosey as before, charging it to 100% then see how it does tomorrow and will update here.

If you perform just the reset option posted above all your data will remain. No need to do anything further.  Otherwise only a restore of backup will get your txt back

Bettery drain now is about 7.5%/h went up a lot!

Same settings than before. May be the reset process drained a lot more than normal. When it finished battery was at 70%, now (less than 2 hours later) is 55%... 15% in less than 2 hours (and double checked my settings)... back to the nightmare

I will proceed to update to 9A406 tonight.

I restored from iTunes and not from a backup so hopefully all is well! I chose the option of 'Setting as new phone' option again. Another thing I didn't get when I first synced my iPhone was a message saying 'Congratulations Your iPhone Is Now Successfully Unlocked!' That sounds good!  I set everything back right super quick when it finished restoring and sorted all my apps to how I like them etc. I checked Settings > General > About and scrolled down to Version to check all went well and it is on 9A406. Heres to a (hopefully) awesome iPhone 4S with no battery issues. Thanks for all the help today Sir!!

Awesome let us know how it works out. Hope you are all set now! At some point you may still want to run the battery calibration process.

Dont throw in the towel just yet. Let it drain all the way til the spinning star and shut down (shouldnt take that long from the looks of it) then recharge back to 100% and them some undisturbed. Then see how it does. The full restore to factory you can do if that does not help. But this way will keep all your apps and data

I will do the restore to 9A406 and then to calibrate the battery. I hope it helps.

A doubt: Apple recommends not to do this update unless there are problems of Sim Card. Do it without having these problems do not affect the device?

    Thanks for the help.

Please note that the iOS 5.0.1 Build 9A406 is only for iPhone 4s.

All other devices (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPad 2 and iPod Touch) can only get build 9A405.

Learned this the hard way by restoring my 3GS three times and ending with 9A405.

I suspect you will be fine. I did it shortly after it was released after seeing reports that it had helps others a LOT just to see if battery would further improve. Mine came with iOS 5 and would struggle to get through a full day . Did the orig 5.0.1 update (9A405) and that solved it for me. Never really had battery issues since then. Also turned off some of the notifications, locations, and  wifi sync that I dont really need or want and that helped more.  No problems for me updating to 406 and I believe it may have helped battery even more.  I didnt have simm issues and am on Verizon so simm not used.  So I would say as long as you have a 4s you should be fine.

    Hi everybody,

I am pretty much convinced, that this is due to a hardware problem!

I am now on my third iphone 4s:

The first hat die battery problem, so I changed it through German T - Mobile service. It seemed to me as a new 4s, bit it was just the phone in a paper carton box. This second iphone 4s had definitely no battery problem. I used it with Bluetooth, 3G, Siri, and Wifi at home. With moderate use it was good for two days.

But... Iphone No. 2 had the "no audio on outgoing call" every 1-2 out of 10 calls. So I changed it again and got iphone No. 3.

And guess what... iphone No. 3 has again... the battery problem!

Apps and options were practicly the same!

So I would advice erybody not to spend their time playing with options, or disabling features...

Just return your iphone and get a new one until the problem is gone!

I am very much concerned, why there is absolutely no media reaction, no public debate. Has Apple silenced everbody with something?

    Greatings from Germany

Hmm well could be but what are the odds that you got 3 in a row of faulty hardware. Of all the millions of iPhones out there that are for the most part working great you happened to get 3 in a row bad devices. I would stay out of Vegas if you ever come to the US.   Seriously though sorry you are having so much trouble. Hope you get one at some point that works for you. Oh and you may want to consider maybe a setup or backup or location (weak signal) or certain apps you have could be causing it as well.

What specific app did you download? Did it specifically tell you something you needed to remove or change etc?

    Hey guys,

I'm glad that I'm not the only one which has problems with the 4S. I own the 4S since the launch day, and I'm holding the 6th iPhone 4S in my hands right now. Yes thats right, I had to return it that often.

I tried every trick which has been described here. Resetted my settings various times, disabled all sorts of stuff on my phone (location services, push etc.), did DFU restores, did completely new setups, nothing helped so far.

I've had 6 different iPhone 4S so far. This is a list of the problems which all of those had:

    - they got warm very quickly while using the facebook messenger or whatsapp for some minutes (basic apps)

-you can watch the battery life drop when you surf the web or do anything else (again, I'm talking about basic tasks, not gaming or recording video)

    - static noise during calls (every iPhone had this except of one)

    - very loud vibration (I'm not sure if the first two handsets had it)

-lents rattling (I guess thats due how the camera is built, so no real issue?)

So, yesterday I called Apple again to get it replaced one last time. This time I'll get a brand new unit, which means not a refurbished one. If its not better then I want my money back.

I've had every iPhone so far. The iPhone 4S is the worst of all iPhones.

One question: Did anyone notice that if you turn off "raise to speak" for Siri, that it doesent disable the infrared sensor? (Hold it in front of a camera and you'll see that it is active all the time) or is that just for my handset?

    I'm really dissapointed by Apple.

Yes, even if you switch off and restart is off only for a few hours, and restart by it self.

No doubt there's some issues with 4s, but I believe it's only because dual-core processor..
