Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Did a soft reset and seems a bit better now - performed the same task in airplane mode and l;ost only 1% in 6 minutes...

App only shows one cpu so I guess its useless, thanks for that point.

As a point of reference, what type of battery length should we expect in airplane mode just swapping screens - at say 75% brightness.   600 minute battery life be in line?

Hey all. I got my iPhone 4S last Friday and not too sure if this is "good" battery life or not. Here's what it was last night. I have everything turned off that I've read about (iCloud, Siri, Location Services, Bluetooth, Notification, etc), my brightness turned down, my date & time's "Set Automatically" is off, etc. My iPhone is currently on 5.0.1, 9A405.

    first.png

I know the standby time is a day but the usage is just from texting and phone calls. Had to charge it up last night as I needed it this morning, it reached only 91% when I woke up. Here's the battery life about an hour ago.

    second.png

I just reset all my settings as mentioned earlier by a post and will let it drain all the way. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Should I go and try the 9A406 update? Is this "good" battery life?

No I'm afraid that doesn't look good at all and heres me thinking I had it bad.

    Mine is:

    Time since last full charge:

    Usage: 5hours 8 minutes

    Standby: 20hours 44 minutes

And yet I still have 34% left on my battery.

I should also point out I updated to 9A406 (thinking it would solve my problem)

    Capture.PNG

According to a paid app called System Status. This is what I would get on a full charge, nothing compared to what they state as the specs!

    *Standby: 200 hours

    *Internet Use: 6 hours 3G / 9Hours Wifi

    *Video playback: 10 hours

    *Audio: 40 hours

I think in that app "Estimated Work Time" is amount of time left based on where your battery is (34%).

the trick is if wifi is running let it run on a power cable to usb

using 3g is slow cost batterys and bandwidth

    they !!!

    the they guys

    want you too use"!!!"

    most apps are single thread

so use more battery .. by default

No i'm sure its based on the performance of my battery because that slider you can see on the picture is what the user has to use to see how much time they will get out of there phone. I kept the slider at 100% to see the stats.

    Capture2.PNG

Here I adjusted the slider to my actual battery life.

And just look at those (disgusting) results

edit: and if you are wondering why my battery charge went up its because I had to plug my phone into iTunes to get the picture, which stuck it on charge for a bit.

hard reset the phone and then soft reset to get rid of all traces of the old o/s

plug in the usb cable then a steady internet let the phone come to 100% first!!!

    and then let it update

i feel if you screw around with the firmware and unknown exports to it

    expect problems

the only way i have found with any apple product

is to either charge replace and charge the cell

    outside it

restore it to factory on connect without a battery

then soft reset it to get rid of nvram settings back to factory

then flash the firmware to latest while on hardware with no battery

then disconnect usb and reconnect the battery

    then charge cycle it

and so far ive only lost 1 apple product out of 6

for every ton of apples there is atleast 1 ton of headaches

an o/s i would assume has atleast three main blocks

    bootblock nvram and main registers {wait logo}

    o/s bios block {apple logo etc}

o/s alive lock alive etc post complete... boot complete display with connect preambles etc completed

processes completed and preambles on connect commence in diverse ways

ashsimmo - from myinterpretation of the app, the slider is for you to adjust as your battery ages and the times are an estimate of what you have remaining...

Charge your battery 100% and you will see.

536 replies on this thred alone and still no definitive, sensible A to Z walk-through from Apple offering anything that will actually fix this?  It's about time that this problem was exported to all media outlets so that Apple wake up to this and take it seriously. An email to sjobs@apple.com is no longer an option sadly My partner is losing 75% of her charge after only several brief phone calls and a few texts only nine hours after it was at 100% and as far as she can judge she's turned off evereything turn-offable. Come on Apple post a fix!!

Sorry, but if the bettery charges to a 100% it would NOT be faulty, isn't it?

In the last 2 hours the battery has lost 3%... but with no e-mail, no calls, no apps, almost no use at all... (I feel like when I used to have an old Nokia, just a simple basic phone )

I don't know what to think

I thought you said it stopped at like 71% or something earlier. I am guessing you need to take to Apple store for exchange at this point. Not sure what else to offer if its defaulted and no 3rd party apps and some of the unneeded locations and notifications are off. Just curious what carrier are you on? I am guessing a GSM network?

What do you guys think of this? I've turned a lot of apps off for notifications, turned push off for Mail, Siri entirely off (don't use it anyway), and OFF for setting time zones, traffic, and iAds. Slightly lower brightness, but that's personal preference. Bluetooth of course off.

    At 34% remaining:

    Usage: 4hr48min

    Standby: 1 day, 0hr

I really, really want to not feel like an idiot for spending the money that I did on my 4S and Apple isn't helping. I left behind my HTC Tilt 2 which gave me 3 days of usability at a clip.

I'm already down to 64% percent with 2 1/2 hours of use (1 hour of calls, 1 hour browsing, and some music) with 6.75 hours standby.

If Apple doesn't respond in some fashion they may find themselves slapped with a class action law suit.

Hello it's me again to report how my iPhone has been getting on. Its been okay I think, I left it on all last night (without being on charge) and for the 7 hours that it was on for it only went down to 99%! Crazy, I got all exited thinking it was fixed but then I went on safari and youtube and it drained it a little bit but not by as much as before. Heres my stats on the Usage bit.

    Usage: 4hours 22minutes

    Standby: 18 hours 56 minutes

Yeah thats a lot of standby time but only because I left it on overnight last night and today I have only been using it when I really need to, plus I've been at work so I could only go on it at break. The most amazing thing is though its still at 45% charge right now with all the precautions taken and the brightness dimmed (but not too much).

I also taken off 80% of some apps and games I had on there, I've only kept the games and apps that I love and use a lot. Now I think this its what is causing so many problems. Apps that are not supported yet by iOS5 and third party apps. I could be wrong but maybe a lot of us have an app or two on our devices that maybe is effecting it in some way. I'm quite happy with how much charge I have left to be honest, its a **** sight better than before. I would do a battery calibration like you told me but I've already done it on my first day having the iPhone and its only advised to do it once per month isn't it?

That looks a lot better. And I still believe that a lot of peoples issues (not all) are with the apps they brought over from older devices like you said. OR seems that every app wants to turn on location and notification for some reason. In my opinion that is just silly . I dont need or even want every thing on the planet knowing where I am at any given time and certainly dont need to be notified that Groupon has a new special of the day ( I get it in email already anyway.)  And you are spot on about the display I forgot anout that. turning it down to like 50% or 60% helps as well That is probably the biggest battery drain on any smart phone. Excellent report! I hope you can enjoy your iPhone now!
