Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Afraid I can't add anything new to this topic, but I thought i'd add my voice to the complaints.

My battery life has been even worse than my 3GS was.

If I want to make it through a day at Uni i've got to use it sparingly.

It's a bit heartbreaking seeing my mates play multiplayer tiger woods golf for hours on their older models without a care in the world.

I send a handful of texts, a bit of RSS and some web browsing, and maybe a bit of cut the rope.

I get home with less than 10% left.

And no, im not going to turn off Siri, or the cloud, and location services, and make email manual, and turn off widgets etc

Because there would be no point having an iphone if I did.

Im having pretty bad battery life aswell... my battery drops about 2% every few mins while on standby..... and drops a couple % ever time i send an Imessage....also notice sometime my phone gets very hot.... Also one night I had my phone on the charger untill the next morning and it never reached 100% was 96% when I took it off the charger after it had been charging all night.... Hoping Apple comes up with a fix very soon

i think the issues with battery life is the phone over heating. i have noticed that my battery life deterioration is intermittent. Sometimes it lasts for hours when IN USE, other times it loses 20% per hour! when in my pocket. But,one thing I have noticed is that when the battery deteriorates fast, the phone feels hot! maybe the processor has insufficient cooling??

I'll weigh in too. I totally discharged the battery last night and then charged it all night long. Unplugged it at 6:30am with a 100% charge. I have not used the phone or texted or emailed or any apps since then (other than all the standard notifications that I have turned on). Here is what is happening:

    6:30am     100%

    8:54am      75%

    9:27am      63%

    9:54am      54%

    10:35am    43%

Plus it does feel very warm on the back.

    Something is going on!

In regards to constant seaching for WiFi - it stops if you switch the 'ask to join networks' off.

I have no new news except that I want to raise my voice about the poor battery life in the 4S as well.

We got 2 iPhones 4S for my wife and I and I noticed that my battery did not last as long as my iPhone 4. I tested both of our phones wigh same settings, notifications, etc. and my wifes phone last by far longer than mine.

I received a replacement phone because I had connection issues when making and receiving phone calls but even the new phone still drops around 23% in 2 hours when on standby and I even turned push emails to every 30 minutes. Why, just to see if it makes a difference but apparently it does not. I also dont want to turn all these features off because that's one reason why I got an iPhone!!!!

Apple needs to figure this issue out and let us know what's going on. Talk time should be 1 hour better compared to the iPhone 4 and standby is listed at 200 hours compared to 300 hours on the 4. I can't even make it through one morning when I am not even using my phone with more than 35% left on my charge......

My 4S is also pretty warm/hot most of the times. Genius bar told me it was the Skype app I was running but even when Skype is turned off it's still way warm!

To be honest i don’t think there’s anything anyone can do until Apple bring out an update that makes the software utilise the processor more efficiently. Could try stopping ALL push notifications in the mean time.

I wondering what consitutes a problem, at what point does Apple consider battery Drains a software problem or battery problem, or iphone iOS has a problem.

Car manufactures do a recall when cars return to the dealer what the same problem across the country whatever that number is which consitutes a recall.

So at what point is a problem reconize, or do they admitt nothing, i do believe a fix will be release if there is indeed a problem.

Apple Apple Apple??? Come on people. You get a fancy group of people together to talk about the best iPhone yet and the improved battery life... Blah blah blah. No one tested this battery. It's almost as if you told the puppet to let the crowd the battery life is awesome when it's really the worst battery life yet. I've had every model and this is truly the worst battery yet. Did Steve approve of this? Disappointed.

Time since last full charge is 1 hour, 16 minutes. I'm at 77%. I have my iP4S set up the way I need it to be, and iCloud is turned off. I haven't used it much this morning except that I do have my notifications on. Ironically, most of the activity this morning has been notifications from this thread.

Waiting for the patch that I'm sure will come eventually. In the meantime, I don't wander too far away from my charger. In the amount of time I've typed this message, I lost 1%.

to add my voice to the multitude:  i did 2 things to my ip4s  and my significant battery drain is gone and it is acting like my old ip4:

    1.  I turned off icloud document syncing via wifi

    2.  I turned off wifi while i am not in a wifi environment- i do not have access to wifi at work- so i am all on 3g

the odd thing is that my wife who has inherited the ip4 is on ios5 and she is blissfully ignorant of any battery issues....

obviously the software is diff't on the ip4s than on the ip4

ymmv but this is working for me...

i am very sure apple will have a software fix within the next week or so so chill everyone chill

i was sold to the new iphone by all of its features and what it can do more than any other phone on the market...

so why should i have to turn all of these amazing features off just so the phone will last the day?

like many have said i is no iphone without all of its features... alittle acknowledgement from apple would be nice. if i dont here anything ill assume they arent bothered and ill terminate my contract and go to android.

im not an apple fanboy i want a phone that does everything and lives up to its claims. it will be a shame to part with such an epic phone but the battery really is getting to me now...

APPLE PLEASE SPENT SOME OF YOUR $40 BILLION IN THE BANK ON DEVELOPING THE BEST BATTERY EVER AND THEN ALLOW IPHONE USERS TO COME IN TO YOUR STORES AND HAVE A BATTERY UPGRADE.

Yes, something is going on, but this thread has gotten so long and is so full of dross that you won't be able to find out what is going on from following it.

Heavy battery drain is a SYMPTOM of a problem, not the problem itself. Over the past 4 years several dozen causes of heavy battery drain have been identified. Every one of them is real. Every one of them is caused by an app that is malfunctioning. And your phone probably has only one of them. The challenge is to find out which potential cause is draining YOUR battery. It's likely that all of them are represented in this thread. There have been a number of helpful tips posted among all of the "me too" posts, and if you look carefully you can probably find one that will fix the problem with your phone (but not necessarily with someone else's).

Delightfully put but I take your point.

Have wiped phone. Fresh install. No apps. No email. Nothing other than apps/items that come as part of IOS5. Will manually load contacts, set alarm and test out to see if the issue is as you suggest an 'app' or whether this is something that is within the IOS5 firmware itself.
