Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

you have to shut it off - there is the lowest consumption!

This iPhone is the best technology you can get from Apple - it's true: accept it or buy something else.

hey guys i have been getting great usage from my 4s. I disabled siri when i dont use it. And honestly I rarely ever used it. Yes im sure some people may think its dumb to disable one of the new features that you got with the 4s but i think id rather have great battery till a fix comes out. I heard it was something with siri always running, which drains your battery. It's worked. over a day of stand by and 8 hours of usage at 42 %

@tdawgsmitty. Glad to hear you have good battery performance. I have Siri off but still get poor battery and hours worth of phantom usage.

Well I think you can not get anything better at the moment. Before I buying the iPhone 4S I had a Nokia n97 mini and the battery life was terrible. I heard that Samsung Galaxy Nexus has a mediocre battery life (read more here).

I think that is a general problem from all smartphones.

I decided to do a test this morning to see how long my battery would last.  Made sure nothing was running and took my 4S (came with 5.0.1 (9A405) installed) off the charger at 100%, put it into airplane mode, again cleared everything from the task bar then locked the phone.  I decided I wouldn't touch the phone for 4 hrs figuring battery should be around 98% by then, (.5% drain per hr in standby * 4hrs = 2%).  I looked at my phone after the 4 hours and to my shock it was at 92%.  Usage statistics indicated 4 hours standy / 4 hours usage.  Anyone have any thoghts on why this would be? Yesterday when the phone was not in airplane mode the phone dropped only 4% over the same time period.

Unfortunately turning Siri off helped only a bit. I am still losing 10% per hour with the iPhone just sitting there unused and close to zero apps running in the background (compared to the number of apps in the background before this issue started)

Depending in the current location of your 4S, it could be that the effects of all the electricity, wireless and other wave lenght going around had an effect.

It's mathematically proven that if your iPhone 4S was in an horizontal position in the city it would spend more battery than if it would be vertically in the middle of the forest.

Then obviously, I am not even talking about the current position of the moon which could also affect it.

To summarize... I have no idea and it seems like nobody, not even Apple knows.

Something that has worked for me, may work for you. Now, I did restore to 9A406 but I think what really fixed me up is this: Let the phone drain all the way till the phone shuts off itself. Then, simply recharge overnight. Doing so allowed me to get 1 day, 2 hours of standby with over 7 hours of usage. That, in my opinion, has me satisfied with this device now. Give it a try.did

did you charged it overnight turned on? or off? anyone have tried this and effective?

Well, having used a 4 for over a month before getting the 4S, I didn't see a lot of difference.  If anything, the battery life on the 4S seems a bit better.
