Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

BALONEY!   That would give you 33 hours of USAGE TIME per charge.   IMPOSSIBLE.   We don't need hyperbole in here as there is already enough mis-information spewed.........

Not acceptable at all. It takes 20 mintues of use for my old iphone 4 to drop 1%

Totally normal.   That equates to 5 hours of usage time per charge, which is REASONABLE.

Ive just come to accept that the battery life is just bad. Im usually always around a charger anyways. However I do think that it is normal for your phone to drop 1% every 5 mins or so. All in all, im going to just enjoy my phone and turn the battery percentage off because with it on it makes me paranoid.

Why don't you tell that to the other thousand users in this thread, and for your information it is not mis spewed information. It's a fact from my experience with my old iphone 4.

I'm actually surprised, i thought it would have lasted like 7 mins per 1%, guess I was thinking wrong?

No your not thinking wrong. It's suppose to last at least 15 min under normal usage before the battery would drop based on my experience with my previous iphones.

    ( iphone 3g, iphone 3gs, iphone 4)

Currently now using the iphone 4s

It is not normal and definitely not hardware related. It started for me after activating iCloud and then using Siri. Before that my 4S had the same battery life as my 4 as my 3GS...

sorry to but in...i'm a (lowly) itouch user with similar battery problems, but who WAS thinking of switching to an iphone on the theory that iphone battery charges would last longer; but apparently this isn't the case. surely there are definitive answers to this problem?

anyway, would an iphone even work WITHOUT phone service - e.g. could i play music, use the calendar, etc?

Look.   33 hours of USAGE is impossible.   You are either lying or mistaken.  You decide which.......

Just got my wife the 4S.. it was at 100% at night...checked in the morning ...it's down to 74% with nothing on...except the alarm clock(Siri is already off)... My iphone 4(also with v5.0.1) just went down 2-3%.

    This is just wrong....

That depends on what you are doing, talking on 3G, following a map on GPS, or listening to music.  Much different battery drains.

If the use is listening to music, it might be possible.  No other use would work that long.

No.  Just lucky.  Face it guys, a LOT of people are having trouble, but most people have no battery issues.

When I put IOS5 on my wife's 3GS, she complained about battey drain.  I went through the settings, turning things I didn't need off (like time zone checking), and the problem went away.  I just haven't had a problem on either the 4 I used for a while, or the 4S I bought a month ago.

I am pretty sure that a lot of the delay in Apple getting 5.1 out is that there are multiple causes for the battery issues some people have.  I wouldn't presum to try to tell anyone that there isn't a problem with SOME phones.  I also think some people have unrealistic expectations.

That depends.  The phone seems to switch back to 3G on standby.  IF you have something using data, then I THINK (and hope), it would use your wi-fi for that.  If you are in a location far from a tower, of with a bad signal path to your tower making the phone ramp up the transmit power (uses lots of power).  Note also that 10 hours on active wi-fi is going to drain your battery.
