Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Delightfully put but I take your point.

Have wiped phone. Fresh install. No apps. No email. Nothing other than apps/items that come as part of IOS5. Will manually load contacts, set alarm and test out to see if the issue is as you suggest an 'app' or whether this is something that is within the IOS5 firmware itself.

I'm doing the same.  Fresh install of iOS 5 with no apps at the moment and things are looking better so far.  I do have Exchange email & calendars enabled however.

Yeah, I highly doubt there is much testing that goes into Apple products. Considering the fact that this is a closed OS and hardware, there arent many variables to consider yet somehow every year we are faced with large problems.

I am still experiencing the same issues. Often, battery life drops in huge clumps of 10-15% in under an hour. They only way I get any decent battery life is to essentially turn off all antennas, rendering the phone just a portable game system/camera.

Adding to the problems, now 3G is dropping consistantly (full bars to Searching... instantly every couple of seconds). So horrible battery life and no 3G, way to go Apple.

What's seeming now to be a very stupid reason to continue buying Apple products, if not for all the apps I have already purchased, I would have already switched. That said, considering I can hardly use the phone much in the first place, I think its a no brainer to return it an switch.

Ok chaps I've had my problems with battery life on the IPhone 4s so over the last few days I have been tweaking things to find out if it makes a manageable difference to the battery life and thus far although the battery isn't excellent it has become manageable.

Iv not restored IOS5 or started anew but I have looked at features that I don't need generally and switched some off. Firstly in the "Location Services" menu I have turned all but the 5 most important apps off on this.

Secondly in Network Settings menu I have turned off "Cellular Data" which I believe restricts the phone to utilizing my WIFI signal only for apps , push notifications, email and so on.

Thirdly in my Icloud settings I have disabled data stream, Mail & Notes but this is my preference and I dont know if this effects the battery.

Iv also disabled automatic downloads for my Apple store but again this is my preference anyway so to each their own.

Since 12 mid day at 100% life up until now at 17:23 PM the battery sits at 65% having minimal usage of Facebook, Email, SMS, Music & another app community that normally drains power.

As I said not amazing but manageable since roughly 5 & Half hrs has cost roughly 45% battery output.

it should last the normal non intrusive day but not far beyond that.

Then, what about the CDMA-native(Verizon/Sprint) iPhone 4ses that DON'T require the use of SIM cards?

i certainly don't have one installed

Add me to the list of concerned iPhone 4s owners with battery life worries. When i had my iPhone 4 (Verizon), i had nothing of this sort of problem. Both iP4 and my current iP4s were setup as new phones and i did nothing really different between the two in terms of setup or usage. The iP4 would last a good 2 days or so before needing a recharge, and it wasn't even truly nearing any dangerous levels

With my iP4s, i don't use most of the newer functions (iCloud, Siri) but i'm experiencing the same battery drops as everyone else here. From yesterday's full battery drop to recharge, i'm nearing 12 hrs of standby and barely 3 hrs usage at 43%. Just this morning, i was browsing the net barely 30 mins and my battery went from 56% to the current 43%

i guess i'll just wait for Apple to release a software update. i'm not really in the mood to do a full restore and i have chargers ready wherever i am (home, office, car), so i guess i can live with it for now

I just talked to Apple care and they are going to exchange my phone. They didn't know of anybattery issues tough...

I also removed my sim and see what would happen. Actually it just drained 1 % every 12 minutes instead of 1 in every 5 minutes. Has anybody tried removing the sim? Just for 10 minutes or so? I think it could be a bug in the software that comnstantly is searching for a network. Perhaps the dual antenna is to blame?

I'm new to the iphone and just purchased the 4s. Very unhappy about the battery life issue.

I did all the suggestions listed here for maintaining a longer battery, but it's still not good.

I fully charged my battery last night and when I woke up, the battery was at 100%. I unpluged the charger and my phone instantly dropped to 97%. I did nothing but unplug the charger. How is this possible?

It's been 3 hours and I have sent 2 text messages and have not used the phone for any calls, in or out. I am now at 89%.

Apple, PLEASE come up with a fix. I was not a fan of the Blackberry but at least my battery life was never an issue. Now I'm starting to have buyers remorse.

    HELP!

    New iPhone 4S 16GB Black:

    Usage 3 Hours, 8 Minutes

    Standby 10 Hours, 20 Minutes

    Battery 47%

Do you think this is normal or not? I've been doing light web surfing a 30 minute call over 3G using Viber and maybe 30 minutes of playing Real Racing 2. I used to own an iPhone 4 and I do believe the battery was much better on that device however after checking the battery time and time again I fear I may have become somewhat paranoid or even turned insane. Hence the reason I'm asking the forum if this battery percentage seems reasonable.

I was having the same battery problems with my new iPhone 4s.  What I did last night was run the battery all the way down to where the phone shut itself off and then did a full charge overnight.  I have been using the phone for about an hour this morning and now I am at 99%.  This is after web surfing, a couple YouTube videos and email.  It seems to be working just fine.  I hope this helps anyone.  Just make sure to run it completely dead to were it turns itself off.  Also make sure you reset network settings before you let it run dead.

    It worked for me!
