    @colin1892

    What is your carrier? Do you know if it is GSM/UMTS or CDMA carrier?

    @Pete from Switzerland

    Have you Pete checked if you are affected by the static noise issue?

  • Pete from Switzerland Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    @enx23: I have either heard too much AC/DC in my life or my 4S is not affected by that

    Is this the same 8 people out of 10 you have mentioned throughout this post equating to the "80% of ALL iPhone 4s users"?   Using the same logic I happen to personally know at least 10 people right off top of my head who have no issues and no one with iPhone that does have issues so I could quote "100% of iPhones work as described". Would that make it a true statement?

    If you actually read the posted specs from Apple they do not say " it lasts 200 hrs". It DOES say "Up to 200 hrs"

    • Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM)
    • Standby time: Up to 200 hours
    • Internet use: Up to 6 hours on 3G, up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi
    • Video playback: Up to 10 hours
    • Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

    They go on to say : All battery claims depend on network configuration and many other factors; actual results will vary."

    I am not sure why I keep acknowledging any of your rants as none of them offer any solutions.  It seems to me you need to sell your iPhone and get something else since you are so unhappy with it and clearly its not going to work for you or meet your needs. There are a LOT of choices out there and you should not allow Apple to force you to have an iPhone.

    The majority  (>80%) of iPhone 4S are affected by hardware issue like for example static noise.

    rphunte42, have you checked you iPhone 4S for the static issue? I am pretty sure that you have it!

    If one sells a phone and states that the battery lasts 200 hours and in real life lasts ~36 hours which is ~18%. As I said Nokia E52 lasts easily 5-6 days of usage (and it is smart enough to switch from 3G to 2G network when necessary to save energy; iPhone 4S is "dumb" enough to stays on 3G network even if it has one bar coverage and five bars coverage for 2G [please note that here 3G is different than cellular data]).

    You wrote "who have no issues and no one with iPhone". You know that iPhone includes iPhone 2, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 also! As one may notice I wrote "of ALL iPhone 4s users"!!! One may notice the difference between iPhone and iPhone 4S wording! Therefore your statistics is wrong because it includes also iPhone 4 for example to which I am not referring!

    Would that make it a true statement?

    I just proved that your statement is wrong!

    According to this it looks that is fine for one to buy an iPhone 4S which lasts one hour because it is still according to the specifications!

    I am comparing the battery life of iPhone 4S versus battery life of iPhone 4 and from this angle iPhone 4S has a miserable battery life!

    And by the way these do not mention system location services at all so I assumme that they are on because this is how they are be default when one takes the iPhone 4s out of the box. Right? I guess that for you this would fall under the "battery ... depends on many other factors" (factors which are the fault of Apple like bugs in iOS 5.X.X).

    I am not sure why I keep acknowledging any of your rants as none of them offer any solutions.

    I cannot offer solutions! Only Apple can offer solutions which are real! But I believe that I can offer information, suggestions, and the power of my own example!

    It seems to me you need to sell your iPhone and get something else since you are so unhappy with it and clearly its not going to work for you or meet your needs.

    Yes, I am very unhappy with my very expesinve music player which acts also as a dumb phone and which is called iPhone 4S! Indeed iPhone 4s does not meet my needs for a phone (the battery should last at least two days so if I forget one night to charge the phone I do not have to worry that my phone will die next day)!

    I want a full refund for my iPhone 4S because of the:

    - static noise issue which it has;

    - voice quality is pretty bad for ~40% of the time (it sounds like the other person is in a barrel);

    - discharging way too fast (for is ~18% ).

    BUT I am out of the 30 days return period and Apple does not want to give me a full refund!

    There are a LOT of choices out there and you should not allow Apple to force you to have an iPhone.

    Yes, and I will choose an Android phone as soon as I get a full refund from Apple! Until then I will be around!

    Just to report that i'm having problems with the battery also, sinc day one!!

    Right now, i'm strongly convinced that i have something running in the background that is sucking out my battery's life! I only have the apps that came with the original FW 9A406 installed, nothing else...why am i thinking this? I have a Usage Time waaaaaaaaaaay superior to the actual use i give to the phone. It' not the same as in Standby, but it's very high. Something like 16hours of standby - 10hours of usage time (when i've only used the phone for about 30/45 minutes!!). Yesterday for example, in standbay, the battery stayed for about 4 hours with 100%, with 4minuts of usage time..."Excellent!", i thought to myself...after that, without touching anything, the draining started!! Usage Time going up, battery going down!!

    I've read hundreds of topics with tips, discussions, workarounds...you name it!

    So far, and as we speak, just look at the changes i've made in order to (try to) achieve a better lifetime:

    - Auto-Screen brightness Off, with dimmed screen;

    - Location Services/system services ALL off;

    - Notifications set to Manual, only having "phone, text messages, calendar" on central;

    - Wi-fi off;

    - Data off;

    - Network Auto-detection set to off;

    - iCloud off;

    - Erased all e-mail acounts and set Push to off;

    - Diagnosis off;

    - Bluetooth off;

    - Restrictions On (Ping and Facetime off);

    - No SIM lockout;

    - Auto lockout set to 1 minute;

    - Closed ALL pages openned in Safari before exit;

    - All apps closed in multi-task bar;

    - I've done several restores in DFU Mode and already let the phone drain the battery to 0% 4 ot 5 times (which is more than i wanted!!) and nothing, REALLY NOTHING, seems to fix it!!

    With these changes i only get one day of very light use (to 20%)!!

    The question is: "What is for you, a very light usage?". Fair enough...

    Sent 3 or 4 text messages, did 3 or 4 calls of 5 minutes each, turned on data to acess a forum (only for 5 minutes!!)...jeeeeeeez!! Don't tell me that this is an expected behaviour for a smartphone!!

    Imagine that i want to see a movie, listen to some music or, GOD FORBID, play a game??!! Wil it last more than half a day???!!!

    This has nothing to do with high expectactions!!

    This has to do with a very poor performance (not to call it other things)!!

    This is nowhere near what Apple promises for this iPhone!! Don't even try to say that the problem is in the users/the way users set the phone!!

    Even with heavy usage, the iPhone should deliver at least a reasonable performance...well, IT DOESN'T!! Im glad that there are some people who don't have a problem. Fine by me. But don't try to turn this around!! There is, in fact, a problem that Apple needs to adress to!!

    Up to 200hours on standby??? Just read the list of changes i've made and you'll see that the only thing that i can do to try to gain more battery lifetime, is to turn off the **** thing!!! Shouldn't i get near the 200hours with all of those changes in standby? At least near 100h??? I guess not...getting 24-30hours (mainly) in standby is already very good, it seems...(ironic mode OFF).

    Cheers!

    P.S. Sorry for some incorrection on the technical terms, but english is not my native language...

    @enx23- i am on three uk, dunno if that helps?

  • marc-man Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    Im reading other threads where some people are swearing it's the SIM causing the phantom usage and battery drain.

    Im on Vodafone UK, using the SIM that was sent with the phone. I've now requested a new SIM. Don't know if the new one will be any different but I'll try anything!

    Ok let me clarify my mistyped /unclear message:

    " Is this the same 8 people out of 10 you have mentioned throughout this post equating to the "80% of ALL iPhone 4s users"?   (Notice I DID state iPhone 4s  in original)

    Using the same logic I happen to personally know at least 10 people right off top of my head who have no issues with iPhone 4s  and no one with iPhone 4s that does have issues so I could quote "100% of iPhone 4s' work as described".

    That better? Sorry if I confused you. I did not do so intentionally.

    On and EBAY may be an option for your iPhone since you cannot return it.

    I had my 4S for 4 weeks without problems. The battery started only after moving to iCloud and using Siri for the first time aftert the move.

    I am sick of getting e-mails with all the posts of this thread, how can I unsubscribe from this specific thread?

    It's obviously going nowhere and 565 pages should be enough for you to understand that it has not been handled and Apple is working on it.

    Yep, you've mentioned that once or twice . Your problem seems to be quite different from the usual problem - at least my problem, anyway!

    after reading the sim comment, i think i will have to try that, because that is the only thing that has not changed in my four iphone 4s, i've returned and recieved...  Can anyone post a picture of your sim, that is having battery drain problems, and for those that are not having battery drain issues. Thanks.
