Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

If you are pretty sure that it is something in the software that is causing trouble, you might check into the app 'cpu activity'.  It may be able to pinpoint what is running, and eating your battery power.

Is this the same 8 people out of 10 you have mentioned throughout this post equating to the "80% of ALL iPhone 4s users"?   Using the same logic I happen to personally know at least 10 people right off top of my head who have no issues and no one with iPhone that does have issues so I could quote "100% of iPhones work as described".

Ok let me clarify my mistyped /unclear message:

" Is this the same 8 people out of 10 you have mentioned throughout this post equating to the "80% of ALL iPhone 4s users"?   (Notice I DID state iPhone 4s  in original)

Using the same logic I happen to personally know at least 10 people right off top of my head who have no issues with iPhone 4s  and no one with iPhone 4s that does have issues so I could quote "100% of iPhone 4s' work as described".

That better? Sorry if I confused you. I did not do so intentionally.

On and EBAY may be an option for your iPhone since you cannot return it.

Any statements regarding xx% of iPhones having a particular issue is just plain wrong.  You would need to take a statistically significant sample size to draw any kind of conclusion.  My guess is you would need to poll thousands or tens of thousands of users across an unbiased population to determine the number of phones affected.  At this point, only Apple is in a position to start to understand this and they are not publishing any information.  To conclude that a certain % of phones is affected based on input from acquaintances and postings on these forums is inacurrate and nonsense.

I've tried several such apps now but the information is useless to me. E.g. what are teh meanings of installd, atc, notification_pro, etc.? And even if I knew, how could I do something about it?

I was on Vodafone UK for about 3 weeks with an unlocked 4S then changed to 3UK. NO difference in drainage, batttery performs very poorly in poor coverage. Can NEVER go beyond 40hrs of standby with say less than 2hrs use. Something is wrong here clearly!

The wireless sync is only supposed to run when connected to power.

I've noticed that the Blue Tooth system process runs perpetually in the background on my 4S. For those folks who can view running system processes, do you all have the BTServer process running in the background perpetually, even when Blue Tooth is off in your settings?

There are many stories on the MacOS forums about this process occasionally going rogue and chewing up a lot of CPU (power.) I am wondering if this could apply to some extent here.

I was wondering, what this BTServer means. Yes, it is running in the background even though I have bluetooth turned off.

I would have thought that the process would be invoked by something else rather than just "be there," and then be cleanly shut when not needed. I have no utility which shows average CPU consumption by processes over time though that would be helpful in this instance.

I am still of the mind that a mismanagement of system processes is contributing to my battery woes. Although Apple is not claiming that battery fixes are on the immediate roadmap, I would expect that any fix which addresses OS efficiency would automatically improve the situation.

I am having the same problem. and I am tired of carrying my charging cable around everywhere I go..

And actually the most important thing is I feel uncomfortable with my phone. Always being on the edge, thinking when the battery will die, or adjusting my hours according to charging schedule of that thing or adjusting all the time the settings in order to save battery life.

I hate to say this, but I am starting to regret that I switched from nokia to apple. I simply can not enjoy my phone.

And I think I am not the only one. Hope Apple is trying to fix that thing.

When I wasn't using my phone, I would turn it on airplane mode. I could make a battery last for 3 days. All of a sudden I was having sync issues...a whole other problem! I ended up backing up everything and restoring my phone. It was restored with 5.0.1. I cannot get a battery to last for longer than 4 hours. I tried all the fixes with push and fetch. I have turned off cellular data. No difference. HELP...
