Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Hey man , i am a really good loyal customer to apple , I own a macbook , ipod touch , nano and iphone 4S and I had all the other iphones , however I am dissapointed with the 4S. At first the sim and no service issue which apple seemed to have fixed by releasing update 9A406 , however the battery life ***** big time !IIt is not even lasting one day without 3g and barely using wifi. Iphone 4's battery life is much better. Apple should find a solution for it immediately , because I know a lot of people considering switching phones to Samsung and HTC.

    Dear Apple,

    Please find a quick and efficient solution to the iphone 4S battery issue as soon as possible !Iphone 4s's battery is terrible I am thinking of switching back to iphone 4 and 3GS and maybe switch to Samsung for good.

    Because of hardware problems (panic.plist) my Iphone 4s replaced with new one. (if you have panic.plist in your log file (diagnostic & usage), you should restore (using Itunes) your Iphone, if it is persist you have to replace with new one.

    If you want to use Iphone Don't Buy Iphone 4s, you should buy Iphone 4 (It is my second Iphone 4s, but I have still problem with battery - my first phone changed because of different hardware problems (suddenly swich off)) with 1 hour (soft condition) usage remaining battery is %90 (very poor.)

    @Pete

    Those steps improve the situation for few days only. After that the battery issue will come back! This has been mentioned several times in this forum! Also going fro 100% to 98% takes several times longer than from 70% to 68%.

    I agree fully! I suggest to potential buyers not to buy iPhone 4s! It just has way too many issues considering the price!

    @zSkeptic

    The statistics regarding how many iPhones 4s have battery issues based on info from newspapers, forums, and frends is not nonsense. I agree that is not accurate but it is good enough estimator of the overall picture. This is the best estimator one can get in a real life estimation here and right now. The reason that only Apple can provide good statistics and everybody else should not even try to provide statistics is lousy! With this kind of reasoning we would not discover anything because only Nobel winners can discover things!

    So I agree that the statictics done by Apple will be more accurate than the statistics from newspapers and forums but this does not mean that we should not try to do our statistics either!

    I think you guys are all forgetting that this is a dual core phone. Or perhaps you have all been spoiled by the lack of multitasking. Compared to my HTC Evo the battery life on my 4s is awesome. I get about 16 hours with good service, with bad service I get about 10 to 12 hours. Today however I did experience an issue when I unplugged my phone my battery went straight to 98%. It lasts about as long as my HTC Evo did with an extended battery. Incredible. But I don't know maybe I'm wrong this is my first iPhone.

    This is an Apple product lol, not an HTC. We expect great things out of it and we usually get it. However, that's not the case with the iPhone 4S. For people like you, the battery problem might seem invisible, however, for people like us who upgraded from an iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS, it's a really big problem because we're really used to the long battery life of our phones. Actually it's not even that long, but it's still better than this.

    Also yes it's a dual core phone, but it's running iOS and iOS is optimized to dynamically clock the processor for battery life. The iPad 2 also did the jump from the Apple A4 to the dual core Appel A5 processor and did not experience the same issues, in fact it improved upon it, with the same battery size, because of Apple A5's supposed power efficiency.

    This is either a hardware problem (unlikely) or a software problem like Siri keeping the proximity sensor all the time even when I turn it off.

    Actually the iPhone 4S doesn't have a lot of issues, it only has one, and it's battery life, yes we can all agree on that. But don't say it has a lot of issues. It's battery life still beats the heck out of almost any Android phone out there (except say the Samsung Galaxy S 2 or Galaxy Nexus) and it's a top notch product

    Not everyone is experiencing poor battery performance. Those that are seem to be experiencing 'phantom usage' where the phone shows hours worth of usage while in standby (SETTINGS / GENERAL / USAGE). Mine currently shows:

    Battery:     35% remaining

    Usage:     13 Hours, 15 Minutes

    Standby:  1 Day, 0 Hours

    If that really was my usage then I would be MORE than happy with that performance but my actual usage is more like 30 minutes (2 short calls, nothing else). The rest of the time the phone has been in standby. WiFi, Location and Siri off, 4 - 5 bars on 2G. Phone recently restored via iTunes, no backup, no contacts, calendar or mail set-up - completely factory!

    I don't expect my iPhone to not use battery, I just expect that it doesn't use the same amount of battery on standby as it uses when I use it for a call, browse the internet etc. I'm sure my phone has a hardware problem, and I will return it. I will wait until I hear that those who do return their phone get a working one in return. We have several examples here on this thread that people return their phone and get a battery sucking one back. I guess Apple doesn't know why some iPhone 4s does this, since we haven't heard anything from them about this problem yet.

    @justinxtreme2

    iPhone 4s has many issues and not one issue. iPhone 4s has also static noise issue which is a hardware issue and it looks like the majority of iPhone 4s have it! Have you checked your iPhone 4s for the static noise issue? I wouldn't be surprise if you would have it!

    Also, one should compare the price of Samsung Galaxy S2 with iPhone 4s not only the features! Hint: Samsung galaxy S2 is much cheaper than iPhone 4s and has more or less the same battery life! Why one is pay a premium price for iPhone 4s?

    I bought iPhone 4s at a premium price, because I like iOS much more than Android, and I would choose iPhone over Andorid anyday. I'm a bit disappointed in my first iPhone purchase, but I hope I get a working phone soon.

    @guitardude7: I measured in the range between 100 and 94%. But for my 4S it isn't true that it takes much longer from 100 to 98. My drain was pretty linear.
