Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Well, I am at 22 hours and 13 minutes with just over 2 hours of usage.  Note that the usage is rather light, and consistent with what I think it should be.  I have 60% remaining.  I consider that more than adequate.

As I understand wifi syncing with iTunes, it will only run when connected to a charger......

Let's just say that that's what the phone *should* do, but what if it doesn't?

Yes, I believe it is the same sensor that turns the display off when you raise your phone to your ear. This works btw just fine. Not sure why my sensor stays on whether I have Siri on or off. Might be a reason to losing some battery life. Have you checked yours to see if you can toggle it on and off with raise to speak button? Of course you have to have Siri turned on to test this.

I have to charge my iPhone 4s 3 times a day from almost no battery. I unplug from the charger at about 630 am. I have a half hour drive to work, in which I lose 10-15 percent battery. I put my phone on airplane mode at 730 a.m. when I get there as I work in a concrete building with no signal. From 1130 til 1 p.m. I take lunch using my phone to do a little texting, send a couple of pictures, and play galcon for 15 minutes or so. From 1 pm til around 3-4 pm it's on airplane mode. When I get off work I'm down to about 60 percent. By the time I get home I'm down to about 25%. After about an hour I'm running on less than 10, so I recharge to 100%. That new charge lasts me till the end of the night, around 930, when I plug in for a third time. I sometimes don't charge overnight because I don't like being on charge for that long, but I lose 20-30% overnight.

I wish I had a plain 4, seems like the best iPhone yet.

I don't understand why I keep reading this...  Why the heck would anybody want to use their iPhone 4S without a sim card via wifi?  Sure, you can still use most of the aps, but Siri doesn't work without a 3G connection.  Why would you want to have a phone and not be able to use it for the two top reasons for having a cell?

Haha, Apple is editing my posts and removing statements.  Childish play; fuels my fire.

I couldn't agree more. Why would I pay for a smart phone, just to disable the phone part? I could use my computer for that. Power hungry gaming laptops have better battery life than the iPhone 4s.

I have liked apple products since I got my 3GS, but now I am sorely dissapointed. I almost have no choice but to change to a windows phone. I don't like android from what I've seen, but windows phones might be a viable option. I don't like apples business model of keeping customers in the dark. We purchased a product that does not perform as advertised, yet we cannot get a response to our problems? I will definitely be signing any petition against apple for this.

This thread alone is approaching 600 messages - and it's not the only thread on the subject... a definitive statement from Apple is overdue!

Just got my brand new iPhone 4S last night and it was losing battery right out of the box, right after I activated it.  Obviously this doesn't happen while it's still boxed and "sleeping", but once it even begins to figuratively "doze", all bets are off.

So, Apple, this has nothing to do with how we are using the phone, as even with no activity beyond simply activating the phone (Verizon, in this case), the battery begins its frighteningly fast downward slide.  I hadn't even installed any apps yet or used any of the ones already on the phone.

To say I am disappointed in Apple's lip service about the issue is an understatement.

I have synced the 4S and 4 without connecting a cable at all.  I am sure they don't want any problems with running out of battery power half way through a sync, thus the instructions.

Siri is on, and 'raise to talk' is also on.  At first, it wasn't reliable, but toggling it off, and then back on fixed that.

Yesterday I had dinner with 2 friends, he's a successful businessman, and she's a professional. Neither of them own a smartphone - or even a flip phone for that matter. So we had a nice little meal without any annoying rap or poor taste thrashy ringtone to annoy us, no device suddenly vibrating that would interfere with us digesting our nice duck, no one pretending to listen to you as he texts someone who's not part of our little gathering, no weird non human electronic noise to remind us that someone posted some useless crap on FB. Plus we need not worry about having an object that has more germs than a bathroom doorknob at the table, especially as we pass along the wine bottle around. The wisdom of this is that I wash my hands after I shake hands with a smartphone owner. And so should you.

@addohm: only to find out whether the drain is 3G related, as some people here believe. Read carefully.

Yesterday after I had resolved the issue for my 4S I was asked whether I measured near 100% or beneath 96%. Tonight I can say that the drain does not speed up under 96%.

However, I had left home with my iPhone 4 (by mistake) and forgot my 4S at the charger, so I can't say how it behaves beneath 89%, where it is now. In 5 hours it dropped from 100% to 90%, now it's at 1% in 30 minutes, which is pretty much the same rate.

BUT... I noticed something else. My iPhone 4 is now on iCloud, too. And today it was discharging much faster than before. Not as fast as the 4S but significantly faster than the last time when I used it. I have to watch this tomorrow again, after a full recharge. In any case, it seems that my 4S battery drain is fixed. I hope it doesn't come back.

Your response has nothing to do with the conversation at hand.  If you don't like smartphones, then why post on an iPhone board?

    Just sayin'.
