Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

so i have been having issues with the battery running down within a few hours of a full charge...

i tried the suggestions i found here, but none of those seemed to work... but i think i finally solved the issue for me. i removed the "Find Friends" app and charged my phone to 100%.... so far, it has been about 48 minutes since unplugging the phone from the charger and the battery has gone down 1%.....

yesterday, with "find friends" installed.. after one and a half hours, the batter had ran down by 12% with no use...

looks like maybe the find friends app is busy all the time trying to find your friends or something...

I have also seen terrible battery performance and have been very frustrated, seeing no noticable improvement from turning various services off (iCloud, Bluetooth, Wifi joining, etc). However, after noticing a post about someone having a "bad contact" in their address book, I went in and deleted all of my contacts in Outlook, I had them in iCloud already, so nothing was lost and those contacts were duplicates of the iCloud ones. When I made that change and turned iCloud contact synching back on, the phone was noticably less hot almost immediately, and the battery life is *better* although still drains faster than I'd like. It's possible that part of the issue is related to duplicate  or partially duplicate (e.g. same phone number, different info) contacts from various sources and the phone trying to synchronize them.

Anyway, hopefully that helps a bit.

Well, after having great battery performance yesterday, my 4S was back to horrible battery life today and also shut itself down with a panic error. I called Apple support and have scheduled an appointment at my local Apple store to have it serviced. Maybe a new phone will solve the problems.

I tried everything-- had the same battery drop rates-- called apple, talked to the tech-- they were helpful-- did everything they suggested, including restore.    Turned off everything but the phnone.  Still had terrible battery life.   Short answer, I sent it back.  It is gone.  I didn't even wait till the end of the 30 day return period.

I am sad, but  I am no longer without battery power of my iphone 4 (NO S), which I leave on standby all day with very little drainage.

Guess I will wait for the 5.

Best of luck -- perhaps there will be a software fix soon?  I just couldn't afford the blood pressure swings!

I bought my iPhone 4s 32GB Black on launch day from Vodafone, been having problems with the battery life from the first day, warm phone etc etc, i've done at least 15 full discharge/recharges and restored from iCloud about 5 times, I'm currently restoring again as I type just for the **** of it. My general usage is about 12 hours standby and 4-6 hours usage, mainly on WI-FI with all options set to ON, except I fetch e-mails hourly and turned off Siri's "Raise to Speak" option.

I thought it was generally getting better until I spoke to my brother today.

He purchased his phone from the 3 network (UK) earlier this week and setup his phone from a backup of his 3GS, by 4ish this afternoon I iMessaged him asking for his battery data and ***** to my SHOCK ****** his battery read 74% with 1 DAY standby and 1hr 45mins usage and he told me that he hasn't stopped playing about with it since he got it. I doubt he has even calibrated the battery and to top things off, all his settings are set to ON, EVERYTHING IS SET TO ON!!!

I thought this was a software related issue, but now I'm not so sure.....

OK, so I made teh journey to the Apple Store.  The Genius I spoke with did seem knowledeable on the issue.  He did suggest I do not restore from backup and just erase my iPhone and start over.  He indicated that something in the backup files may be corrupting things.  He also look at diagnostics on my battery and it showed that standby and usage time were identical, which indicates that something was running all the time.

So, I have erased all, good time to purge apps that I no longer need and we will see if this solves it.

I wonder if anyone here that got an iPhone 4S did NOT recover from backup and just start using or is everyone more or less restoring from backup?

originally i was having battery not charging to 100% issues so i restored and backed up from that restore like they said.

i dont know whether it is the restore causing the problems tbh i dont fancy starting a fresh.

whats the chance of us lot having a "BAD" batch?

Most of us having issues setup the phone as new and have NOT restored from a backup.

Zero.  Plenty of people with iPhone 4 (not 4S) are having battery life issues with iOS 5 when they previously had none with 4.x

Hey Micheal, I didn't do anybackup and started frsh as a new phone setup on my iphone since begining and hoestly it wasn't as bad as people are complaning plus i manage my itunes stuff manually not auto sync so i guess that saved a lot of corrupt files to tranfer over too. Now i was still nto getting a satisfactory battery life but i had to charge pretty much every next mroning if i use it lightly and moderately with alot of things off. So, I got my phoen swaped yesterday but I wouldn't suggest doing that yet. And I am draining my battery currently and then am going to top it up full and see how does it go. I am hoping for a better change. But yeah whteva genius told u I think you should definitely give it a try and it will solve alot of troubles. And what i heard above , just in case change ur sim too and see iof that really helps because people are claiming that was a problem too. And anyways i got a new fresh micro sim with my new phone so it was ok i guess and my phone was good in standby mode but whenever i use it it just used to go crazy like lunch time.

    hope that helped!

And plenty of people have upgraded to iOS 5 or bought the iPhone 4S and are having NO battery issues. But they don't start or post to threads saying "my battery life is great".

After going thru two different 4s, I returned it for a refund.  I'm happy with my old iPhone 4 (10 hours usage, with 6 days standby on a single charge).

I would like to report my usage today and ask if this is the "normal" for the iPhone 4S:

    Usage 2:50 hours

    Standby: 7:30 hours

So far battery show 53% with all the settings below:

Used for lots of web browsing, YouTube couple movies, recorded 1 minute HD video, 20 minutes iTunes and 15 minutes iPod.  All settings are on, mail to push and manually, siri on (but off raise to speak) and send diagnostic is on.

    Any input will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    M

I'd like to ask the same question

Black 32 Gig 4s, restored from back up

    Usage: 1 hr 37 mins

    Standby: 9 hrs 6 mins

    current 70%

haven't done any really heavy usage, and only 1 call for 10 mins
