Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

rphunte42 - when you say they probably didn't configure the SIM properly, what do you mean  by that?

Some people are just never satisfied.  First people complain about no toggle, then they restore that feature, and someone complains about that.  Glad I don't run Apple....

The fact that APPLE has re-instated the 3G toggle for 5.1 beta 3 concerns me greatly.   It tells me that they have been unable to solve the problem with firmware mods and are implementing this band-aid as a fix.   Looks to me like the 4s is doomed to be what we see here and all we can do is wait for iPhone 5......

Hi, has anyone updated 4S to latest 5.1 beta 3? Is there any improvement for battery life on 4S for this latest beta?

To me it's fine...the switch was usefull and, to me, it's a good adition.

Mainly because that way, we will be REALLY sure, that the 3G is off...dedicated switches are always better than one that adresses to 2 or more functions at the same time...

593 pages and now we're going to have to endure comments worthy of a teenage girl?

Sorry to disabuse you of this notion, but NOT ALL USERS HAVE BATTERY ISSUES!  Mine works just fine,

Of course not all iPhone 4S have battery issues! By chance one would expect that at least one iPhone 4S to have no battery life issues!

    Mine works just fine,

How do you know that your iPhone 4S has the expected battery life when:

    1) you just wrote in one of your posts that you charge your iPhone 4S everytime during the day when you have the opportunity, and

    2) you spend so much time in front of you computer on this forum?

I NEVER said that I charge it at every opportunity, only that I COULD if I needed to, and so can the vast number of users.

Maybe as much as you.  I'm retired, and I have lots of time.

unless you believe that all the articles about the 4S written by various people over the world are just lies.

Wawww.... Just because an article does not match your opinion regarding your belowed-working-iPhone4s it means that is a lie! It is clear that one has a problem accepting that iPhone 4S has issues!

You need to learn to READ.  You claim everyone, or most users, have complaints about battery life, and that is NOT consistent with the majority of reviews that never mention it, or actually praise the battery life.

Does that mean no one has battery issues?  Certainly not.

Now you are just contradicting yourself!

No, I NEVER said no one has battery issues.

Some have pretty obivous hardware issues, and others seem to have 'rogue tasks' running that sap the battery and run up the 'usage' figures beyond reason.

If it is iOS bug, apps bugs, hardware issues it is still Apple fault! The point is that iPhone 4s and iOS 5.X.X which is installed on it has battery life issues and it is the duty of Apple to acknowledge it and fix it!

They will, but not today, and not in the next 4 minutes.  Give them time to work out what the problem is, what the fix(es) might be, and then to TEST them (so as not to cause other, maybe worse problems), and then to get the fixes out to the users.  It's not a water faucet, but a complex electronic device.  You can't fix it with a screwdriver and a new washer.

Others seem to have unreasonable expectations.

Again, if people complain here about their battery life of iPhone 4S being shorter than on iPhone 4 then it is not about unreasonable expectations!

Should one fall on his/her back because of iPhone 4S? I do not think so! In the end of the day it is a product with specifications and the seller should provice accurate specifications for real life situations!

Ok.  Point to just ONE phone with accurate specifications on battery life.

If you are in the first two categories, you certainly deserve a fix, whether hardware, or software.

How one can get a fix if in the first place the issue is not even acknowledged?

When we will get a permanent fix for the battery life of iPhone 4S? Next year? The iPhone 4S has been realeased last year and even this year there is not a definitive fix for all iPhone 4S issues!!!

Oh, yes, it's really late in 2012.  It is completely obvious you have no concept of how large companies work, or the scale of this kind of operation, or the technical aspects of the question.

Especially when it's a bit 'fuzzy' what the meaning of 'cellular data' really is.

I doubt I will need it, but I don't object to options.

I think this is the right reference.  Also has to do with the serial number issue.  It seems that the 'phantom process' that keeps incrementing usage is SIM related.

You refuse for the second time to answer the question if you will get some financial benefits or gifts from Apple in the future? One can still get nice gifts from Apple without being an Apple employee!!!

It is very clear that refusing to answer this question twice, Apple will send you RPHUNTE42 some nice gifts and/or financial benefits soon for the great job (i.e. telling that is people's fault and not the iPhone4s) which you are doing here on this forum!

I am amazed at the people on here taking up for Apple They must be Apple troll employees .First we buy a new phone that is suppose to work. Well it does not due to battery drain. No matter how you cut it we are sold a faulty product that a company knew was faulty but sold anyway and continues to sell. If any of us had a small business and did this we would go to jail for fraud and obtaining money under false pretenses. I saw an apple 4s add this morning talking about siri and I cloud I had to laugh .Never did they mention we have a serious flaw that our engineers can not fix. All these turn this off turn that off is just nuts  I bought a phone to work not to work on

All these so called fixes that do not work would be like me buying a New car and the engine stops working and the manufacture tells me just turn the head lights off it will be fine.......

I have stated at least twice that I have no relationship to Apple other than having bought ONE Apple product, which is the iPhone 4S  Frankly, I have a long-standing dislike for the company since 1976, and continue to dislike the company for several reasons, mostly historic.  I get nothing from Apple, want nothing from Apple, and would accept nothing it is were offered.

Glad you think I am doing a great job, but I don't want a job, don't need a job, as I am retired, and have been since 2003..

Please acknowledge this post so you can put this ridiculos idea to bed for good.

To respond to the second part of your message.  I have, repeatedly, said that SOME users have hardware issues, and others seem to have 'rogue processes' that don't shut down and run all the time, eating battery power.  I don't understand why you can't seem to SEE those statements.  And, yes, SOME people have unreasonable expecations.  Anyone who takes seriously the 'up to xxx' in advertising probably also believes that someone in Nigeria is just out of the blue going to deposit 4.5 million in their bank account, and sends them the info....

I have tried everything - restoring as a new phone, resetting settings, switching off almost everything, emptying the battery then recharging to full. Everything. And nothing worked.

Battery seems a little worse for me when I switch from 2G data to 3G data. It drops at about 1% every 2 minutes.
