Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I've had my iPhone 4S for about a week. I've been noticing my battery life is pretty crappy also. I've tried turning off everything suggested in the discussion and been burning through about 80%-90% of my battery life per day. I was just hoping it would be fixed with iOS update.

But I wanted to get an opinion on this.

When I got my phone out of the box the battery was fully dead, no charge at all, took about 15mins of being on the chager to even turn on. This morning I took my phone off charge when I got up, had the phone in standby mode for about an hour and a half.  Then since I had the day off work I thought I'd play some games. I played about 20 mins worth of Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit (a reasonably graphic and processor heavy game admittedly) and when finished I these were my stats.

Should I take it back get a replacement? What do think? Is this normal?

I have a black iPhone 4s 64GB and have been trying to figure out the battery life as well. I am coming from a 3Gs so its hard to compare the hardware. The picture below is basically with 2 hours 3G talk time, 4 hours of iPod music, and the rest is mainly texts and a few emails. How does this compare to everyone elses?

I also have an Exchange account, Gmail account, push on, brightness at ~20%. Auto lock at 1m.

I posted earlier on about how I performed the iCloud backup and restore. I've also tried several suggestions on this thread. I did a comparison with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. I didn't bother recharging my iPhone 4, i just let it keep going, I think it was at about 50% when I had fully charged my iPhone 4S. With the exact same settings starting Sunday night at 7PM, here were the results. I am running iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 since launch day so

know that it is not the iOS 5.

Even with the battery life not being as good, I still think that almost 48 hours of standby is decent. I just wish I could get the same amount as my 4 which as you can see was more than 3 1/2 days Standby. I don't use my phone all day. I have moments of intense use.

I also downloaded battery doctor on the second day of owning my iPhone 4s, I fully charged the phone on the first night and in the morning it had around 72% remaining, I then turned virtually everything off including data etc and installed battery doctor which I also noticed shows a different percentage than the phone on both remaining battery and when charging, Im now losing around 3% during the night but as soon as I make a call or use the phone it drops dramatically.

Is this something that could be fixed with an iOS update???

Or do you think 4s users are doomed?

I swapped in my original 3G for this phone and the battery life on my 3G was the same if not slightly better!

    Thanks.

I was using it on and off, not constantly for the 1 hr 37 mins. email, browsing, fixing settings, photos, etc.

I never close out of an app when im not using it, so at any given time, Mail, phone, sms, safari are always "running" in the background.

But to your point, this is about right?

    Thanks

Left is iPhone 4 with (10%), right is iPhone 4S with (1%) ...The labels are kinda fuzzy but at the top of photos.

A lot of people on here have A LOT worse battery stats than I do but the first couple days, mine was pretty bad until I made a few changes, which I have listed in my posts. I'm going to turn of Auto time zone as well and see. I am charging again and going to keep track to see if I can beat the 1 day 21 hour standby. I just want the same performance as my 4, or close to it.

It sounds in the right range. To be sure it would be good to have a week of data. The key element is you should get 6-9 hours of actual use without having to recharge.

franky932, both have iOS 5, the 4 and the 4S. I don't think it is the OS. We may need to see if people have more updates to their apps that are more closely optimized for 4S and the dual processor. I'm guessing this is part of the issue.

How about replacing your Sim Card with a new one. That fix my problem.

I've been reading these forums since day 1 and we are not alone, have 3 phones with identical problems, yes all types of restore could work, but often does for a little bit then battery drains. I have a friend who has a new 4S and NO issues of battery, and he did a restore from Iphone 4 ios5 backup, which i what I did initially. In the Diagnostics & Usage log I notice "lowMemory crash reports" on the weak battery phones, friends show none. Interesting enough to ask for a new phone, hardware.
