Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Um because you despise the 4s and are convinced it dont work and wont work. Say you cant sell or return it. You have stated many times that the 4 is superior. And until the 4s came out the price was exactly the same. So I thought maybe this would help you since you stated you cannot get a refund now and seem to be happy with the 4.  Loose money, well if you truly have a phone you cannot use you would be a lot better off having one you can use therefore not be loosing money. It was just a suggestion enx.  Of course you can keep the 4s and continue to complain about it. Certainly your choice.

Why would I swap iPhone 4s with a iPhone 4? iPhone 4 is cheaper than iPhone 4s and by doing this I would loose money!

I want full refund for my iPhone 4s which has a miserable battery life, static noise issues, and unbeliveable bad call quality!!! It is not my fault or your fault that Apple sold me such a bad iPhone 4S!

If he sold it, he wouldn't have a reason to gripe.

haha--you don't understand total control and the huge profits that come with Apple installed replacement batteries?

I understand it, but it seems an overall negative to me.

This is a perfect example of "aggressive factory settings" and of the "Apple experience" going too far. The data should be extracted from asking you during the 1st config/activation, and GPS guessing should be an option. When you install an OS it asks you for your city. I don't get Apple.

I THINK I found a possible solution to the battery drainage but I have not yet investigated it fully. My phone has been on standby for an hour now (93%) and it didn't drop at all. I'll tell you all the details once the battery drains to zero and I record the full standby time.

Please tell me your solution is not turning on airplane mode haha, i mean sure that increases the battery life but it kind of isnt a phone anymore

Well, he managed to reset the phone when it was not done charging, so he isn't really getting a reliable reading since the phone doesn't doesn't have a valid 'reference point' to determine the charge level.

Beetch18, my iPhone is nearly always on standby as I barely use it. I check Twitter about 2 times a day, 5 minutes each time, get a few texts and reply back, and call for about 15 minutes a day. That's barely any use and I have battery drainage although I think I figured out a solution that I will "reveal" later when I fully investigate it.

Nah man. Turning airplane mode on isn't considered as a solution. I have gone exactly one hour now since last percentage drop. Please look at my next post for my possible solution.

This may, I'll say it again, may be the solution to the drainage and again, I didn't investigate it fully but I'll tell you what I did. I restored my iPhone as a new phone and didn't install any third-party application, music, videos, or contacts so basically, my iPhone is 'fresh' or 'clean'. I then noticed a huge battery drainage, possibly 3% in less than 30 minutes and I then checked every single setting in settings to see if anything's wrong.

I went to [Settings>General>Restore] and then Erase All Data And Settings. So that's all. I think this is the fix. I will check my phone tomorrow morning, it's 10:52PM local time now.

(To make it clear: I restored as a new phone from iTunes, then erased all data and settings from the iPhone.)

@AliAR - The target is about 0.5% per hour in standby. If you think you'll get 0.15% ever you're simply out of your mind. No trick will yield this... except a flaky indicator lollll.

Well, power off would probably get you there.  Of course that severely limits useability....

And I am VERY impressed by the current results! I actually cannot believe it at all. If anyone wishes to test this, please do so at your own risk. If you actually do test it, please post your results on this discussion to compare. Thank you.

1AppleADayNoWay - I never said anything about 0.15% per hour. 2% battery drained yesterday per hour on standby, that is 4x more than it is supposed to. But right now, I think its all good.

So let me get this straight....   You have a completely empty phone, with all "vanilla" settings and nothing loaded on it?   And you consider that a potential solution?    Please tell me what I'm missing here?

They are just trying to make use of the phone's features to ease your life.  Needless to say, if you travel a lot, this feature would be quite handy.  But Sbailey4 has a good point.  I have several cities in the list, including my home, so the GPS check is redundant most of the time.  On the other hand, even using the GPS when I look at weather (once a week or so in my case), would use some battery power.  It's just not significant in MY usage.

    Rphunte42,

The rest occured after phone was 100% charged.

As for a valid reference point and how accurate the battery % is we will have to wait and see until the battery goes down to 0%
