Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

try to do the followings steps, those helps me to save the battery. Try it.

    1. Go to Settiings / General / Siri / turn off Raise to speak and then reboot.

(A sensor upper the earphone is continuing on even if you turn it off, YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR IPHONE AFTER THAT.)

I think that it is the major problem about battery drain.

    2. Go to Settings / Location Services / System Services / Turn off Setting Time Zone

    3. Go to Settings / Notifications / Turn off Calendar, weather, stock or move them to Not in Notification Center

(calendar may be not need but I don't use this function, so I turn it off.) (Weather and stock always runs GPS or  internet to update the states.)

    4. Click weather and turn off local weather. Set your area in the weather list. If using local weather, it always run the GPS.

I'm not sure if you, or anyone else having battery issues on the 4s, has tried closing the apps running in the background periodically.

    To do this:

Double push the "Home" button on the bottom of your phone to bring up the running apps (displayed in a row on the bottom of the screen).

Next tap and hold one of the Apps until the red off button is displayed, and app icon shakes (similar to when you are deleting apps)

Go through and touch the red off button on the top right of each app until they are all closed.

Thats it.  There are so many posts in this thread, so I appologize if I am repeating someone else's comment, or if this is common knowedge.  Since I discovered this function, I have noticed a decent increase in battery life, as long as I keep up on it throughout each day.  Once you open an app, for some reason it stays running in the background, no matter if you power your phone off and on, etc.

Also, I purchased an app called Boost Magic, which works on the iPhone and iPad, and it seemed to help even more than just closing the background apps.  For 99 cents, it is worth a shot in my opinion.  It charges your iPhone/iPad in stages, and recomends you wait until your phone is below 20%, open the app, then plug it in for the most efficent charge.  After that, it simply runs in the background.  Also gives you useful DATA on usage senerios and has some kind of help for screen cleaning?  That I don't claim to understand.

Hope this helps someone, let me know if you need something I said clairified further.

    -Brian

Recharge your phone to full 100%....then Let it drain fully......Again Charge it to 100% and let it drain...These two cycles will ensure that your phone's battery make it useful to your way of using the Phone....It helped me...Try it once...Thank You

iTunes 10.5.2 (11) - I guess its the latest version.

I'm not sure about it. Maybe it doesn't.

And I think the restore as new phone won't work for some users who have problems on their iPhones. To fix, I believe the solution is to restore from iTunes then erase all data and settings from the iPhone itself, and that is by going to Settings > General > Restore > Erase All Data and Settings. This might fix the problems.

Wow, you would think that restoring as new and erasing data and settings would yield the exact same result. Just curious, what is your iTunes version?

I'm going to put apps one at a time, probably one or two a day. This way, I can eliminate the app that causes the battery drainage, if there are any. I already configured the phone to the settings I want. Bluetooth off, location services etc. I got 61% now with 1 day, 17 hours and 20 minutes standby with 3 calls in between. Still no apps and I didn't recharge it at all.

So are you going to load APPS and configure the phone for use to see what causes the problem for you?

I fully restored my phone from iTunes yesterday and then erased all data and settings from the iPhone itself at 7:11PM (local time) when it was 100%. Today, at about 6:51PM, I had 75%. I have a record sheet in which I randomly check the time and percentage on lock screen and write it down because the usage/standby times are not available. So I have gone 1 full day with only loosing 25% battery life and I currently have 73% at 9:57PM (local time). Remember, I have no data at all on my phone. No contacts, music, apps. Nothing at all. So my phone is useless. I received one call and it lasted for less than a minute so it isn't a big deal. I received 3 texts but didn't reply to any. I'm actually loving the results I'm getting. Its not on airplane mode and I didn't put it during this so-called investigation. I am unfortunate that the time since last full charge times are not available or else I would've posted a screen shot. Good luck to everyone who are experiencing battery drainage on their iPhones.

I must say that ever since I turned on Cellular Data I don't suffer the usage=standby "bug" and 3% per hour in standby

However I still believe there is huge battery drain during usage

this is about 1% per 2 minutes with nothing enabled in the background aside from the app im using (say-Fruit Ninja)

    Only Cellular Data is on...

How much time of usage is considered good if the battery started with 100%?

I though 6 hours,no? (apple said 6 hours for internet surfing with 3G...games should use less battery because they don't use 3G,am I wrong?)

So guys is there still a problem?

I am about to get an iphone 4s on contract but i don't want to get one, if the battery life is terrible?

Should i just do for another phone or are the 4s battery problems bearable?

So, as you can see there are 625 pages of the battery complaint issues, what would you think? I really think that the Siri ir sensor is causing an awful lot of the battery problems with the 4s. I have posted this many times about the ir sensor being on when it shouldn't be. You can check this just by holding a digital camera in front of the phone and see if the sensor is blinking away. Try Siri and make sure it goes on and then shuts off. If it remains on then you have to expect the battery will be draining. There was mention of making sure your apps are closed when not in use. That has been discussed over and over on here and even Apple suggests closing them down. Of course that is one of the first things you should do. As I have mentioned before and many have also said it, seems like the OS 5.0.1 is the real culprit with the 4s. And the ir and Siri is part of the problem! I got a new replacement for my 4s and it came with OS 5.0, the battery life is just like my iPhone 4 was, very good. ( I will NOT do the upgrade to OS 5.0.1 or newer untill I read positive posts about it. I do have to check the ir every now and then just to make sure it's behaving properly. Hope this helps.

Thats not bad. However you didnt really state the usage. But at least your runnaway in standby seems to be close. (.5%x 41.33= 21% so 100-21=  79% remaining and you stated 61%. Add the usage for the calls and whatever other usage you had and hopefully that will equate to the other 18%. Again thats against the max spec so....  Further confirms that software, more importantly some apps were more than likely causing your issue. Of course the reset also fixes corrupt settings and config so it also could have been that. Bottom line is it doesnt appear to be hardware on this one. Thanks for the report and good luck!

Apple is working on iOS 5.1 . Its in test stage currently and is expected to release soon and should further help with battery issues indused with iOS 5. As long as you can return it within 30 days you have nothing to loose. Not all the 4s are having issues but clearly there are a several that are due to various reasons.
