Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

With NO APPS loaded and NO services (like email) running, correct?   Just like a totally out of the box device?

After exactly 2 days of standby (not airplane mode), I lost 48% and now have 52%. I lost about 25% on the first day and 23% on the second. I made 3-4 calls and sent 2 text messages. These results are great.

HI There... it would be really great if i could get some help on this. i have bought an 4s just few days back and my battery drains like anything. my battery lasts for around 22 hrs with about 4hrs and 30 mins of usage where as the spec is upto 200 hours of standby time.i have done everything possible. and this is without playing music.just checking few mails.. texting nd few calls during the day.i notice thers a drain of about 3-4% every hour. also wanted to know. by upgrading it to Build 9A406 from 9a405 will it help to increase the battery life? if anoyone could help me on this i would be really greatful. thank you

Updating to 406 may help.  Some users do seem to get better battery life after doing that, and a complete reset of settings and data.  More likely to help is the complete reset, and then, rather than reloading your software from iTunes, redownload it from iTunes.  That way you are sure to get a current version.  BTW, if you are getting 22 hours, you might want to run through your settings and turn off anything you don't need, like compass calibration, and time zone checking, unless you live near a time zone, or travel frequently.  Anything you can do to minimize use of the GPS will help the battery life somewhat.

In general terms, most people are happy with a smartphone that will go through a normal day and not need a recharge during the day.  Some feel that 2 days is the minimum, but I couldn't get that from my previouse smartphone (not an iPhone).  I can get my 4S to last two days, but really don't NEED to.

Thanks for the calculations! According to Apple's specification, it is supposed to stay up to 200 hours and I don't think my phone can go over 120 hours. Unfortunately, I can't see the usage time so I don't know if there is something still running in the background as before, but I'm sure there isn't. According to my results: last time I recorded before I slept was 10:56PM, and I had 72%. I woke up at 6:15 with 68%. My iPhone is getting back to normal. This was the standby time before about 20 December. It was good up to that but then I don't know what happened to my iPhone. Anyways, I'm lovin' it. About 25% for 24hrs with extremely low usage. Fair enough!

I am glad you are finally satisfied.  Now, as you add back apps, I suggest you do it be downloading them fresh from the App Store so you are sure to get the lastest version.  I think some of the problem relates to old versions reloaded onto new phones from iTunes.

To eliminate the blinking light, you can reboot the iPhone or just switching it off and turning it on again. If it doesn't work, do it several times more until it goes away.

Yes, email I don't have email yet but I have my iCloud account setup only for Find My iPhone because I don't use iCloud. But I have no apps at all and I will be installing apps from the App Store to get the latest software, as referred by rphunte42.

In addition to my last post, i've managed to "not charge" iphone 4s for 4 days with light usage, calls, sms, a bit of internet surfing, checking mail manually and couple of photos...

Sorry but I gotta say this. These people fear me: Name_Country. They all have the same thing. Chris_Germany, Denis_Croatia, and I've seen a couple others. I have a feeling they're not real. But I don't mean to offect you in any way.

Don't know why you think like that. I 've put name of the country so that maybe someone from my country has the same problem like the user barad.dur2and we can try to help each other and maybe meet some new people. Believe i'm not some apple guy working from the background giving points to apple. Those 2 octopuses on my profile pic are real and so am I

I returned by 6th iPhone 4s recently because of the battery issues and started using my iPhone 3GS.

The battery life on this phone was great even with iOS 5.0.1 until recently when I started losing 40% overnight in standby mode.

Today, I also started noticing the standby time to be the same as usage time. I have no apps installed on my phone (I only use it as an iPod with Phone), no email setup and both 3G and Cellular data is disabled. Location services and notifications are all off. I also have nothing running in the background.

Any idea what could be the problem? I have already done a reset all settings, restore and even setup from scratch as a new phone.

    Thank you.
