Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Well yeah you are correct. However the Apple specs are mostly marketing specs (as with any other vendor) If you do nothing else and default out of box no apps and its in a lab you may get the full 200 hr. If you add talk or email or wifi or whatever else it certainly will drop. Each spec is written as this OR that. So a bit misleading I guess unless you really think about it.

There is an article of how they came up with /tested thpose specs here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/battery.html

Bottomline I have not seen anyone who actually uses the phone get the MAX spec. and Apple covered it by stating UP TO xxx so take it for what you will

As long as you can use ur phone and its performing to YOUR specs then great!  Myself, if I can do all the stuff that phone is capable of and get by a full day  I am thrilled! I really dont mind plugging it in. Its pretty easy HAHA.

LLoyd,  "The reset all settings" process posted a few pages back on in another forum here has worked/helped a lot of folks. Doing that process and turning off items like diagnositics sent to apple and time zone and other things again mentioned in these forums seem to be the fix for now.  Some folks have reported updating to 9A406 did in fact help but it was not listed by Apple as addressing battery concerns. Maybe the sim fix in there helped users with sim causing drain. Not sure. Certainly I would give that a shot as that will be a reset plus fresh firmware install and could very well solve it for you.  Here is the info to do so if you desire to try. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148  Good luck!

Dude are you restoring from the old backups? If so there is your problem cause you are putting back whatever offending setting or app that was on the other 6.  Just a guess. Also I have seen iCloud be hung wanting your password and causing the usage and std to be the same.  Toggle off iCloud and see if it stops. Also email accts will do the usage/std be same issue for who knows what reason. But removing them and adding them back will sometimes resolve it. Hope this helps!

I returned by 6th iPhone 4s recently because of the battery issues and started using my iPhone 3GS.

The battery life on this phone was great even with iOS 5.0.1 until recently when I started losing 40% overnight in standby mode.

Today, I also started noticing the standby time to be the same as usage time. I have no apps installed on my phone (I only use it as an iPod with Phone), no email setup and both 3G and Cellular data is disabled. Location services and notifications are all off. I also have nothing running in the background.

Any idea what could be the problem? I have already done a reset all settings, restore and even setup from scratch as a new phone.

    Thank you.

So guys is there still a problem?

I am about to get an iphone 4s on contract but i don't want to get one, if the battery life is terrible?

Should i just do for another phone or are the 4s battery problems bearable?

I suggest you to stay away from iPhone 4s. Grab any other phone than iPhone 4s!

The vast majority of iPhone 4s are affected by the battery life issue and/or static noise issue which is a hardware issue. Seeing that this forum has around one million views is obvious that the battery life issue of iPhone 4s cannot be fixed by "turning off...", or "killing apps...", or "reset...", "updating iOS 5.X.X.X.X.X", etc. Also the battery life issue of iPhone 4s is known since last year and still even this year there is no software fix for it. This suggests that most likely there will never be one! The launch day of iPhone 5 is approaching fast and probably Apple is focusing on iPhone 5 more than on fixing the iPhone 4s. The only fix for iPhone 4s' issues is probably iPhone 5!

Be warn and stay away from iPhone 4s!

svwvk - How about you try erasing all settings and data from the phone? Go to Settings > General > Reset.

I'm not sure about my iPhone 4S, but I think this is what stopped the battery drainage, at least this is what I think. So please try it and reply back. Thank you. I would love to know if this actually works for other people.

I am sorry to disappoint you but Settings > General > Reset does not work. It works for a day or two but after that one is back to square one.

Apple never wrote under what conditions/circumstances they got the standby time, cellular data time (6hrs), and so on. Yeah, they got good marketing skills and advertisements! I have seen that website many times before and it didn't help me in any way. Apple should increase the level of employees working online to help users with problems with their products, probably online chat for quick and easy communication. For example, I live in Dubai and I don't think there are any Apple-savvy people here that are realy able to help with some issues.

Erase All Content and Settings is the option you're looking for. My phone is now on 2 days, 3 hours and 10 minutes of no charge! I experienced battery drainage before I did this. I restored as a new phone from iTunes and then Erased All Content and Settings from the iPhone and now I have no battery drainage at all! I used the phone very little, probably 20-30 minutes but I have amazing standby time.

    Hi @sbailey4

I did not restore from backup as I have nothing on my phone (this was true for my iPhone 4s as well). No apps, no email, just some music and video. Cloud is off too. Wifi was turned off overnight too.

Will try without the music and videos next time.

    @AliARwill try that again.

@enx2you are right. when I do Erase all and setup as fresh device, its ok for a day or two and then starts draining.

On your 1st charge, do you charge with the phone on the home screen, or with the phone completely turned off?

    Bud,

Your posts come across like you have solved all your problems, but you have an empty, virtually useless phone!   Please get it configured as you intend to use it (APPS, email, etc.) THEN let us know how battery life is.    I could care less that an empty unconfigured phone lasts 3+ days.

    Ok.  Enough!

Please present documentation to support your statement that the 'vast majority of iPhone 4s are affected by the battery life issue.  If you can't, I suggest you stop promulgating unsupportable information.

FACT: many, if not most, iPhone 4S users have quite satisfactory battery life, especially if they wisely turn off features they don't use, and also don't assume that they can restore their phone from an old iTunes version, with old software.

FACT:  Apple has already released one update to IOS5, and has another almost ready for release.  They continue to work on IOS 5 as it will likely also be in the next iPad, and the iPhone 5 (or whatever they call it).
