Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

if you reboot, it only throws the error upon resume from sleep and then it stops.. vs. from before it was every couple of seconds.. so maybe it gets worse over time..

I've been having the same problem.  Battery lasted about 4 hours in standby, not using it at all.  I intially restored from my older iphone so that i didn't have to reenter all my settings.  Then i tried a restore followed by resyncing, still no success.  I tried resting all the settings again with no luck.  I tried turning everything that i could off and still the battery wouldn't last more that 5 hours on standby.

I've just tried a complete restore in itunes, then disconnected before it could do any syncing.  I went through the setup on the phone doing the absolute bare minimum, no location services, no icloud, no email, basically nothing.  With this setup the battery life is great several hours and still 100%, which leads me to believe it might be a software related issue after all.  My plan is to add one feature every 4 hours or so to see if i can pin point what feature or combination of features is causing the issue for me.

I'll post back if i find anything.

    FROM CNET.FR (France)

Apple knew that their IPHONE4S was lees good on batt. then is brother IP4.........when they lunch it.......and they admit it.

    any idea of that move.

they just to have to put a more powerfull battery (than 1450).  with maybe 400 mah more. with the same size.

they are a smartphone not bigger than the IP4S and have a 1900mah. batt.  i wont give you the specs of that phone , you will be more angry.

A new update?: will give us what : 30 minutes or 1 hour more????????????????? whe need at least 4 hours more .

they had 7 months to test it..............but the productivity of the device was on. too late to change something.

maybe they hope that whe will say nothing.........

Why not a recall? like cars????????????

Too late , damage is done .it is more serious than a antenna.

dont delete that post , it is not negative , it is the fact and whe must be realistic.

With Bell mobility i had 14 days to return but with no more than 30 mntes of use.............what a joke.

my phone was broke and it was 2 days before the 14. i did not wait to see all that. i buy right out. not waiting

    for reviews and test.

p.s. in 2G mode and ALL OFF : it help a bit , at least in stanby and on calls only , no web, NOTHING.

to be reliable forget all the good feature that whe pay for.

use them but charge at 8-12hours....(heavy usage)-to 24 hours (less) period.

i will buy a battery pack , in case i can not charge it .(AC or DC).

    Have a good day.

I honestly believe the 4S' battery life is worse than the 4's battery life. My battery just runs out faster and I know its not my phone. After having the 4 for over a year and even getting a replacement battery I can tell that the battery on the 4 lasted longer than the 4S. Yeah theres probably reasons for this like the processor and SIRI etc etc, but I dont care because its worse and it shouldnt be. Apple, even though I doesnt make or break my love for the iPhone, I'm definitely disappointed.

AND read the advertising of APPLE : more battery life with a well manage new processor......... come on.

it would cost  them $5 to $10 MAX more to putt a 1700 to 1900 mah. ($20 to us) at millions of production

IPHONE 5 will have a 4'' screen and a super battery. in 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!. i am sure that they are working on the

    phone.

i dont have their money to change in 6 months.

i will wait 2 months before changing mine,

waiting for a second batch .......after they will have to sell these first millions,

or they will give us  all these future refurb with a better battery.

    How thick are you people?

It's a software related issue that Apple will surely solve asap. In the mean time try whatever is suggested on here, like removing every thing from the device and just stick it out.

I know it ***** that your expensive device is not working properly at the moment, and I agree that it should work for that money, but just stick it out.

And especially stop spreading your ridiculous conspiracy theories.

I sincerely hate people for being this stupid. Just as much as the people fighting the war over which phone is better.

Right.. I don't buy it. Maybe it's true but I don't think it's all software related. I had an iPhone 4 with ios5 beta for MONTHS and there was no software related issue. Apple will probably pull it off as software related and release some bogus update similar to the "thicker and taller signal bars" when the 4 came out. It's not like my battery is draining hardcore. I mean I do get a good days worth of use out of it with occasional car charge etc etc. The battery really just doesn't seem like it will last as Long as the 4 on a normal day for me. Im in the 40-50% range a few hours earlier during the day than i would be with my 4 and it just tends to drain a tad bit quicker. I can just tell and it's annoying that I bought a phone with worse battery life.

Same here. Rubbish battery life and a diagnostic menu filled with 'awdd' reports...

Turning off 3G and turning off most notifications helped a bit but I think it's going to be a software update that solves this...

talked to apple support last evening. they concentrated on asking me 4 things:

-did i do an ios restore with data coming from icloud

    -did i have wifi active

-did i use a lock screen

    -do i use photostream

in the end they don't know what's going on and they made me an appt with apple

genius bar to "look at battery condition".

to be honest, even if it is a rogue program/app running full time, you'd think the usage

statistics would still give results somewhere near apples published speicifications. thats

what bothers me about this problem, standy and usage times are not ideal. fixiing the

problem via software i don't think will give us all the 4 hours or so improvement to usage time.

it will be improvement just like some of the actions we've been taking to marginally improve things

but not to the published specs or anywhere near them.

    just my opinion.

I'm on my third battery calibration, went to bed woke up in the morning with 98% charge, the moment i opened safari it was dropping a percent point for every minute i was on there, similiar scenario with twitter, upon opening twitter and using it for a few minutes i dropped 4%, i think i may try a full restore today with minimal applications. i am yet to see any crash reports since i synced my phone yesterday and the battery is still dying with pretty much everything turned off, no email accounts except icloud which is on manual for contacts, reminders and calendar, location settings pretty much all off apart from a couple which are rarely to never being used. come on Apple let us know something is in the pipeline to fix this! also my phone was set up as new.

Brill I have had my iphone 4s 64gb for 6 days on O2 and had the same battery drain issue well it's got worse in that it took eight hours to charge and 10 mins to discharge completely and now it will not charge at all.  Told by Apple Sheffield that they have no phones to replace it and O2 said it could take upto two weeks to get a new one, Well done

    Apple !!!!

I have experienced the second by second battery countdown. I've seen the continual error messages, and I have tried many of the suggestions in here which has culminated in me contacting my phone provider, and Apple for a replacement/refund.

Honestly I don't think that the stand by and usage times will be ever be as advertised. Mainly because those advertised are the maximum and not something to be expected under normal conditions. I do think that the current state is not practical and that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

I do think that this is a software issue, that it is something to do with the particular build of IOS5 that is in circulation. I understand that there were various betas of IOS5 in use pre-release. Some had better battery life than others.

Just looking at the error logs it would appear as though a rogue process is becoming stuck instead of stopping it seems to be looping and churning through processor time and ultimately ripping through the battery. I do think that the IOS5 needs to have its processor handling looked at. Dual processors are great, but if one becomes dedicated to a looped process you would hope that IOS5 would recognise after 5 attempts within one hour that the process is flawed and quit reattempting.

Well mine is a good bit better now.. I decided to not try change any settings or disable stuff and just did another straight restore.. Back to a clean install and I left all the settings and toys on.. My contacts etc have synced back from the cloud.

The only significant thing i'm missing is my three years worth of text messages, but they are in a backup if i need them.

So since around 18hours ago, i've only lost about 6% battery with all features enabled.. But no apps installed except facebook.

Just finished charging to 100% again so I'll see how it goes rest of the day..

That is the behavior I would have expected. However, it is not what happens. Powering off the phone and powering it off (even after several minutes), the apps that were open at shutdown remain open following the power cycle.

Same here, I tried same thing on my iPad 2 and found that all programs I have opend before booting is still running?!?
