Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

There is no help Apple has abandoned us all. They are even ashamed to admit their mistakes and offer a solution. Do not fall for the bs on here about turning this and that off. It's a smart phone you paid good money for and it is plain and simple not what it is advertised to be . Apple is laughing all the way to the bank every time some poor sucker purchases one

Well you may need to be a little more specific.  Have you read through this thread? How about these two?

Good information posted in both. Davidch reset process is a good place to start. Then look through the second one for optimizations recommended by Apple. Also found here http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

Yeah Dogman is right.  Leave on everything you wont ever use and suffer from the lower battery life than you could otherwise get. Then come here and moan about it and how you wish you could get more time out of your battery. Because its a "Smart phone" and it should know the things you want/need to use without you telling it.

Did you not pay for a smart iPhone sbaily4. All of you apple elite worshipers get on here and are okay with turning off all the functions you paid money to get just so you can say i have a 4s, that's just crap. Apple didn't give me the phone I paid for it and paid for a phone that works. By your logic its okay for any manufacture to sell a product that is less that advertised and you will be happy with it. If you bought a Prius and you had to turn the radio off and everything in the car to use it because it had a bad battery  then you would be okay with it just so you could say you own a Prius.

This is driving me crazy. I never had a battery problem with previous iPhones. If they don't fix this, I may be looking at new phones rather than remaining the Apple loyalist I've always been. I'm tired of giving AT&T my money anyway. Good luck to everybody.

    Hello everyone.

i just want to ask about my battery usage, i want u all to judge whether i faced battery problem or not. The photo showed mine was 6hrs standby and 3hrs 42mins usage, but my battery was 22% left. while my colleague's i4s was standby for 8hrs, usage 2hrs 45mins, and his battery was at 73%.. i was off everythig and followed what apple said on their article on how to save the battery life since i got my phone 6 days ago. what do you think ? need your opinion.

Prima facie, your statistics seem subpar. The reason for this is that even if you were using the device intensely in the most battery consuming way (Internet over 3G = 6hrs), then we can make the following calculation:

    3:42 x 16.6%/hour = about 60% + 22% you have left + (6:00 x 0.5%/hour standby = 3%) = 85%

So you seem to be under the spec by as much as 15%, if your pattern remains the same until shutoff.

Usage must be qualified because battery performance depends on type of use (internet 3G/wifi, call 3G/2G, local video or music playback). For instance while your friend seems to have better statistics, if his usage consisted entirely of local mp3 playback, then his stats are poor too. Furthermore, the battery indicator doesn't always behave in a linear way so you must wait until you reach 0% or device shutdown to have the complete numbers. Screenshots are overrated and useless... Some of the suggestions you'll find in the last few pages or within sbailey's post with the links on the current page go further than Apple's battery saving tips and you may try to implement them and see. Otherwise, if you can't hit the specs don't hesitate to seek support from your vendor.

    Good luck!

I agree fully with you! Already iPhone 4s is last year phone and now (and this year) Apple is focusing on iPad 3 and iPhone 5.

The battery life of iPhone 4s is miserable compared to iPhone 4. The vast majority of iPhone 4s are affected by the battery life issue and/or static noise issue which is a hardware issue. Already has been released eigth updates and betas of iOS 5.X.X and not even one fixed the battery issues and/or the static noise of iPhone 4s! It is clear these issues cannot be fixed by software.

These do not work on a long term:

    - restore,

    - restart,

    - turnning off settings (what is the point to turn off settings which Apple set on buy a super expensive phone like iPhone 4s?)

Also one should keep in mind that the battery life issue is mostly related to 3G and cellular data! Of course that there are apps which hang and take from battery life but these cases are a minority.

These do not look good! I suggest that you return your iPhone 4s or ask for a refund!

I'm not using my phone as an iPod as there are so many capabalities on the iPhone.

It looks like you do use your iPhone 4s as an iPod!

Please do not call my phone dumb because it is the best phone I've had so far.

I didn't call you phone dumb. I wrote "You use your iPhone 4s as an iPod + "dumb phone" which is not the same.  I suggest that you read very carefully the posts before you reply to them. Apple sells iPhone 4s as a smartphone but due to battery life issue and static noise issue it forces one to use iPhone 4s more or less like a iPod + "dumb phone" in real life situations!

I keep off cellular data and wifi because it drains the battery even when not in use and I'm not constantly on my iPhone, I have a Macbook Pro that I use to open safari and social network.

This shows exactly my point and this is why I wrote above: "You use your iPhone 4s as an iPod + "dumb phone".

Have you tried to use your iPhone 4s in airplane mode? You know that you would save even more battery life. Right?

What is the point to buy one of the most expensive smart phones on the market which has settings on by default out of box and after that you turn them off and use the iPhone 4s as a dumb phone just to save battery? Bragging to your friends?

One can find easily another smart phone (e.g. iPhone 4, Galaxy s2, etc.) which has the same battery life as iPhone 4s and also can have much more settings on than iPhone 4s and it is cheaper!

    @Vomgottsland

Please, do not feed the trolls like rphunte42 and sbailey4!!!

Obviously they believe (believe like in religion) iPhone 4s is the best phone ever! They have the strong desire to convert everyone here to their religion! Anyway for them any phone with battery life of less than few hours would be fine as long as it has a fruit logo on it.

It is sooooo funny to read the posts of trolls and Apple worshipers like rphunte42 and sbailey4 where they recommend to turn off that setting and the other setting "because one does not need" (why Apple engineers set it on to begin with?) and they put at the same level as leaving the "TV on 24/7" and that one should not believe in the Apple specifications.

Obviously the battery life of iPhone 4s is miserable compared to iPhone 4.
