Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

As far as your discussion with enx23 is concerned, well, you should feel entirely vindicated of showing such resilience and so should he. This is such a change from the multilevel guys who can't take more than one or two replies before folding, especially when they know they won't be getting their 5-10 peanuts. Plus it provides mild entertainment and encouragement for the Apple staff who are avidly reading! One day the thread will be data mined and made into an AI or audiobook - I would personally love that!

The iphone 4s battery life is not a big deal.

When the iphone 5 comes out in a few months , everyone will be camping out waiting to buy the phone.

Apple can do anything they want and you people will still buy their product.

The news could report that the iphone 5 battery died in 1 hour and everyone would still be in line

    For a iphone 5.

To some people, Apple is the only solution.  But I don't think most of the 55% of Verizon's phone sales are to people who are Apple addicts.  The fact is that SOME phones have hardware issues (you can't make 50 million of ANYTHING without some of them being flawed), and some users expect more than the phone can deliver, and other users seem to have issues that involve strange things running when they aren't supposed to.  The vast majority are having a great time using their 4S, and having no issues with the battery life.  If a really large percentage of 35 million users in the US were having this problem, that would be ALL you would be hearing.  It would be making 'antennagate' look like a small family party at the church.

So far, they seem to be about even on wins and losses.  The confusing part is that one may win on an issue in one country, and lose in another.  The whole thing about software patents is that they offered for things that should NOT be protected.  The lawyers make a fortune, and the USERS pay, and get less.

The patent legislation is often outdated and laughable, which yields ridiculous results. I think a solution would be for Apple devices to have an anodized 1 inch engraved logo on the backplate saying something like "Samsung Inside" lolll and Samsung devices could have a similar logo on their tablets saying "Apple Outside". I would personally love to see that happen. Or a full-fledged merger lolll. Unfortunately we'll be treated to the much less flamboyant conclusion i.e. cross-licensing.

It would all seem more sensible if the companies who are suing each other weren't doing billions of dollars worth of business with each other.  How like a snake biting its own tail.

So, Android (and Windows Phone) users can't just tap a phone number in an ad or email, and dial it.  Who suffers?  The USERS.

You are right there. But this will evolve in time. You fail to take into consideration patent erosion through multiple iterations of litigation, refined prior art claims, and better demonstration that best practices in development involve modular design architecture - ultimately a revamp of the legislation. It's just muscle at the moment but they'll get fed up. Then they will cross-license. I guess we'll see.

I have a iPhone 4S, 5.0.1 firmware. Despite the firmware update, my battery would drain about 1-2% every 2 minutes or so duing standby. I also had problems where the battery would drop about 5% in about a minute of use during a phone call. I had to charge my phone 4-5 times a day.

When I completely drained the battery untill it switched off by itself and then fully charged it back, the problem went away. Now my iPhone 4S needs only one full charge per day for the same use conditions.

    Hope this helps.

My iPhone 3GS had this issue where the usage and standby time would be the same. A complete clean install fixed the problem but the issue would magically come back up again with no change to phone. No apps, no email etc. I tested this for a week when I was on vacation where I set nothing up on my phone after a reset (DFU).  I received 2 calls and that was my use. The ghost usage crept back again.  I reset my phone again today and now my phone goes into the cycle of Full bars -> No bars -> searching -> no service. This happens every 5 minutes.

Anyone else have this issue with iOS 5.0.1 and AT&T?

    Thanks

Are you running 9A406 version of the iOS? That was supposed to address no service and sim issues.

I am sure you are right, but meanwhile, users suffer, and lawyers make more money, and progress toward more user convenience is impeded.  A bit sad from the user's standpoint, since we are the ones who pay...both in money, and time waiting for those patent erosions, or cross-license agreements.

No, but you need to isolate this problem to either your phone, or AT&T.  Call AT&T for help first so they can analyze your phone signal, and see if there is some problem with provisioning on your phone, or if there is a problem with the cell itself.  My experience with the AT&T techs in my attempts to clear up reception problems was they they went well beyond the requirements to try to provide the best service possible within the limitations of the available hardware.
