Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I am sure it will help those on fringe areas, where switching to 2G service will keep the phone from trying to renegotiate contact with a tower all the time.  For those of us in suburban areas, it will probably make no difference, as it will not be used.

Nothing changed about Pluto.  It is still there, still the same size, still **** cold, and still in the same anomalous orbit.  Someone just decided not to call it a planet any more.

Indeed. I guess I failed to convey my point, so I'll quote a part of what Mike Brown is quoted as saying in the Pluto wikipedia article: "[...] Science is self-correcting eventually, even when strong emotions are involved." I guess it annoys me that my knowledge can be swept from under my feet so that I could lose face to a 5th grader who's had his latest trip to some observatory or whatever. But then again I didn't base my life on such knowledge, otherwise I'd be real upset... or entirely enthralled, who knows!

Nothing is going to fix these phones at least not until the 5s are out or Apple decides to do a complete remake using different components. Don't fall for all the Apple trolls on here singing the praises of Apple they are either fools that worship apple or kids who want to be. If with all the resources Apple has they have not been able to fix these problems by now they never will be, For those of you who thin a new software upgrades is going to work you need to buy tickets to Pluto. Apple has let all of us down thankfully I tried 3 and will try no more and ATT took them all back under the 30 day guarantee. Research these problems on the web and you will find there are untold thousands with the same problems. DO NOT listen to the turn it all off trolls. You bought a phone and paid money for it to work , it doesn't and never will

As one who, until Dec. 2011, sometimes taught 5th grade, I can tell you that I was somewhat amused by the reaction of the students when I pointed out that when I graduated from school, there were 9 planets, and 8 parts of speech, only to find that we lost a planet, and gained a part of speech.  I used to be very interesting in astronomy, but having followed it much lately.  Thanks for the update to old information.

Interesting that the message just before yours contradicted the statement by EdiMC.  It MAY help some people who live, or travel, in fringe areas.

Sorry to hear you are having this much trouble with your new iPhone 4S.  I was having very similar experience with me losing battery power.  Whenever I activated wifi at my house, i would lose battery power dramatically.  I won't go into telling you how I discovered the solution.  Whenever I activated wifi, I would see multiple conected, disconnect.  After some time and frustration I decided to turn the power off of my router and then turn the power back on.  Since hen I have had no problem what so ever.  I now keep my wifi on all the time.  Very little power loss.  This is not to say this won't happen when you are around other routers.

The iPhone 4S specs are listed for 200hrs standby hours, so that means 0.5% per hour on standby, but auto-checking of email and what not count toward usage and can happen while you're not actively using the phone i.e. 5 mins mail fetch, apps that have the ability to poll the network even when they're closed and other undisclosed things. So it varies with the setup you have (mail, apps, etc.). But some people have 0.5% per hour standby drain... so at that rate you would lose 4% for 8hrs.

hm...interesting, I would guess 0.5% per hour rate is right too, but I also heard some people claimed their iphone 4s remained at 100% battery life after a few hours. I wonder how that happened.

If you had a watch and you left for work and you looked at it and it indicated 8:00, then worked all morning and went for lunch with colleagues then looked at the said watch and it still indicated 8:00... would you consider the possibility that somehow time had stopped in this world? Now if it were an Apple magic watch?

The battery indicator is flaky (software) and non linear under certain circumstances, just as the usage statistics in some respects can be too. So if you make stats from your device, use a stopwatch, pen and paper (for instance a beautiful Moleskine 5x8 logbook with assorted Pilot G-2 07 ink pen), and wait until the device shuts off before drawing any conclusion...

    Good luck!
