Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Second time I see this week someone replying to a comment posted 200 pages ago. Weird.

    @moe-4-me : yes

moe-4-me - the slightly longer answer is that a 5.1 update has been released for developer beta testing. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be fully released soon (but it is likely that it will be).

However, as 5.1 has no supporting documentation claiming it addresses the battery issue, it probably will make little difference to battery life. Just return the phone for a refund.

I think its actually right. I went through 10 hours standby with 100% charge. This is a miracle! But then I lost 1% per hour. I now have 3 hours usage with 1 day, 13 hours standby and on 34%. I had wifi on for 1 hour, cellular data for 25 minutes, and music for 30 minutes. No apps installed. Seems great to me. What do you think?

I have done some searching, it is providing the user with no use whatsoever. It is your way of opting in or our of Apples program of them collecting your location data and what you are upto to sell on to other companies as marketing data.

    See below:

Cell Network Search is a location based service that sends your location information, and the tower ids of the network towers within range of (and thus detected by) your phone.  It is used by Apple marketing (and whomever they choose to sell/share the database with)

Those features in System Services are all about sending your location based information TO Apple, not about enabling features or services on your iPhone.  This is Apple's way of allowing you to opt out of the collection of location based data that previously was done surriptiously without overtly letting you know or have any way to stop it.

You can disable every single feature in that section and your iPhone or iPad will continue to function exactly the same way it always has.

I am afraid that this is info not from Apple. Please, could you provide a link to some official documentation which describes what CELL NETWORK SEARCH does? I could not find any official info about it!

Obviously not everything under Settings -> Location services is about marketing (like for example Compass calibration).

You could have saved 1050$ by buying an iPod Shuffle? And with your usage pattern, you would have had 1 month of standby time!!! A miracle!!

Nothing is going to fix these phones at least not until the 5s are out or Apple decides to do a complete remake using different components. Don't fall for all the Apple trolls on here singing the praises of Apple they are either fools that worship apple or kids who want to be. If with all the resources Apple has they have not been able to fix these problems by now they never will be, For those of you who thin a new software upgrades is going to work you need to buy tickets to Pluto. Apple has let all of us down thankfully I tried 3 and will try no more and ATT took them all back under the 30 day guarantee. Research these problems on the web and you will find there are untold thousands with the same problems. DO NOT listen to the turn it all off trolls. You bought a phone and paid money for it to work , it doesn't and never will

I fully agree with you! Apple has now the pockets full and iPhone 4s is a last-year-phone and it is already forgotten by Apple. Now Apple is focusing on iPad 3 and iPhone 5.

Apple has released the last official iOS realease (i.e. iOS 5.0.1) last year!!!!! iOS 5.0.1 did not fix any battery issues or static noise issues of any iPhone 4s (it fixed only some SIM cards issues) even that it was supposed to!!!

It is clear that the vast majority of iPhone 4s have batter life issues and/or static noise issues!!! One does not have to be a genius to realise that because so long time has passed these issues cannot/won't be fixed by software updates! The battery life of iPhone 4s is super miserable compared to iPhone 4.

The only fix for battery life issue known to work is to put the iPhone 4s in airplane mode or remove the SIM card!!! Of course this means that one is converting his/her iPhone 4s to an super expensive iPod.

These fixes do not work on long term (i.e. they do not fix the battery life issue and they just mask/hide it):

    - resetting

    - rebooting

    - killing apps in background

    - turn off settings (what's the point of turning off settings if by default they are set on by Apple?)

    - restoring

    - removing apps

    - etc.

If one has battery life issue with his/her iPhone 4s I strongly suggest that one immediately :

    1) get a new replacement which works (please consider that it might take easily 7 or more replacements), and/or

    2) get a refund.

Also before contacting Apple about the battery life issue please call first to you carrier provider and ask if there are some issues regarding cell network and iPhone 4s (most of the time there are none) because Apple will blame the carrier provider!

I actually use my iPhone as a phone. Its not always on standby. One does not have to use a phone for 10 hours. I use it for texting, calling, emailing, and checking Twitter. I have an iPod Touch 4thG and its not that good. I like my iPhone regardless the issues it has and I'm a light user. Its like having 3 in one: music, phone, and camera. As long as I have the money, I can buy whatever I want to and you're not supposed to criticise other people. Keep your words to yourself.

    Calibrate!

Discharge until shutoff, then recharge overnight.

This is supposed to make the chip that does the battery monitoring have more accurate reference points.

In any case, the monitoring of Li-Ion batteries isn't exact.

Hi, I had the same stats on my iPhone 4s for usage and stand by, did a reboot first then a reset through iTunes and back up, still no change. Today I was about to take it back to vodafone, but thought I would try one more thing.

I went to reset without the phone connected to iTunes.

Then ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS. (still not connected to iTunes)

Once this was done, connect the phone to my computer, and through iTunes backed my phone up.

    Since I have done this:

My Usage is 1 Hour 43 mins

          Standyby 11 hours 6 mins

          Battery 74%

Before I did this my phone would run the battery done in 6 Hours.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck

You use your iPhone as a DUMB phone! It is nothing bad in using it that way!

You've obviously never contacted Orange UK with a problem then - for any issue at all, their first line response (if you can get through) is always to say there's a network issue in your area.

I live in Finland. In Finland the coverage and the quality of the coverage is excellent! I have not had any issue with coverage or mobile networks in Finland in my life and also I have never heard anyone complaining about coverage problems in Finland. One switches the network carries here for getting better prices/plans and not for getting better coverage! Therefore it sounds like the Orange UK is not that good. Right?

Even now I get 2 or 3 coverage bars (out of 5) in my office on my iPhone 4s and on the other smartphone which is 2 cm away from iPhone 4s I get the full coverage bars on same carrier and same 3G network!!! Obviously, iPhone 4s is not that good with with the coverage "thing" in my case and also probably in general. This might explain also why I have bad quality voice calls on my iPhone 4s.

    Hello,

Since a week the battery life of my iPhone 4s decreases really fast. When it's fully loaded the battery decreases to about 50% after using it for 1 hour, including listening to Spotify and using the 3g connection for surfing some news apps. Normally the battery increases with approx 20% with this kind of use.

    I'm using a 32gb Iphone 4s, approx 8 gb of free memory.

Turned off almost all of the location services and message notifications, not using bluetooth, do use wifi (but allways did).

Any ideas what could be the problem?

    Regards,

    Brep

    @enx23

No one told you to analyse other people's comments. It is not necessary at all. There's no need to state the way I use my phone because I can use it however I want to, whenever I want to. I can switch off anything I want to and there's no need at all to judge me. I suggest you keep your words to yourself as well because you're providing no help to anyone on this thread but rather just swear at people and Apple and analyse their comments as if you're analysing a quote from a book. I solved some of my battery issues but I still have it. Please stop analysing and evaluating comments.
