Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    I know it's a 4S duh!

Specs means squat if the iPhone barely makes it through a day.

Also this is a forum, I'm allowed to vent, what I do with my phone is not your business mate. If you have a problem with my venting, than why don't you tell that to the other thousand users in this thread.

If you call almost 24 hours, with 9 hours usage, 'barely making through a day', with 22% remaining, then I don't know what your expect.  Most of the other people complaining have MUCH worse battery life than that.

I hope you know how to take the screenshot....Anyway, whenever you wanna take a screenshot, hold the sleep button (which is also a power off buttone) on top of the phone and press the home button....You will see the screen flash...You can then go into the Camera Roll Album to find the screenshot....Upload it via phone or sync it with your Mac or Windows and upload....

Use the 'camera' icon in the reply window in this forum while typing a reply to upload....

I guess I gave you too much information....Upload your stats....Lets see...I got a 9 hrs 13 mins and 1 Day 3 hrs on my replacement phone....With a normal usage....hour of music and half an hour video and nearly an hour of web on wifi....I keep texting all the time....

P.S. Combined usage of all the features should probably make the phone last for nearly 12 hrs to 15 hrs of usage I guess....

I'm not that person, who comments the disscussion, but now I really need to! I am reading now for days, the people problems, opinions, toughts, and I really really truly sad about the Apple INC...C'mon people! We didn't bought this phone to switch off everything, and use it like that! I bought an iPhone 4S because I wanted to enjoy all those features!

The problem is that the people don't see the problems. They saw just what they want to. To be honest, when I bought my iPhone I knew about the battery issues, but I was like "ooh c'mon, apple will fix it!" I did bought the phone, and now just passed 3 months and nothing changed. I am just hearing about millions of iPhones sold, and new selling records reached and nothing about the BIG battery issues.

1 year ago I swiched from Windows to Mac, and I am reallysatisfied with my Macbook Pro, but I am trully disapointed in the Apple comapany. Apple made a very big mistake, because probably it's a hardware issue, and they will NEVER going to admit it!

    that's it.

Trying to unterstand, what's going on with our 4S phones I started to gather the pros and cons both for the hardwre and software issue.

    Hardware issue pros:

    1. The phone has been out for more than 3 months, and it seems apple still couldn't find the problem neither solve it.

    2. Apple is very quiet about this problem since the latest update (also) didn't work for lots of people.

    3. Also the jailbreaker community failed to solve the issue (the advertised cydia app is fake!!!), but this can also mean it's a Baseband bug.

    4. The 4S tech specs say 200 hours standby compared to the 300 hours of the iphone 4 and the 3Gs, so apple MUST have known about the issue before release, so it can't be fixed with a sw update.

    5. Beta testers say that the phone has the drain issue even with beta 3 on it.

    6. Apple enabled the 3G toggle in the latest beta for 4S, so the battery life can be increased by switching it off, but it's just a workaround for the hardware problem.

    Software issue pros:

    1. Lots of devices are problem free, some were fixed by sw upgrades, some by full-restore/charge-format and other woodoo or magic tricks by users.

    2.  The 3Gs also had battery drain issues after its release with the 3.0 sw, later iOS versions fixed it.

    3. Some iphone 4-s (not 4s-s) and 3Gs-s have the battery drain problem since iOS 5 upgrade (my 3Gs is perfect with 5 days standby)

    Baseband issue pros:

    1. The 4S baseband versions grew with every version of iOS 5 (including betas)

    2. Hardware issue pros No. 3

Summarizing: I could gather more hw pros, than sw pros! It doesn't mean anything, but I think there is a huge chance that we will never get better battery lives with our current 4s-s.

Anyway, remembering the antennagate, and how apple treated an obvious hardware-design failure, one thing is for sure: we will NEVER know what is the truth about this issue.

For me now it seems to be fairly random and for that reason I believe it is a software issue.  More recently I have found that I only drop around 1% per hour in Standby and get down to around 50% battery after a days usage compared to 10-20% previously.  I think there may be issues with a rougue process not being killed off when it should be.  Some 3rd party apps deffinetly cause excessive drain at times - I have found Skype to be really bad.  I also think that messaging services like Whatsapp and Viber can cause excessive drain.

I have Siri enabled, Location services on, Date/Time auto update off, 2 email accounts (set to fetch every 15 mins).

I found a similar thread to this posted here. The first post has about 15 different things we can try. I know in this 600 page thread we've pretty much tried everything, but for the people who, like me, came here from google looking for a solution, here is a pretty short forum with some things you can try. Best of luck and hopefully Apple fixes this soon!

I'm impressed - you can recognize by the size of battery that is a SW problem. Maybe Apple is also looking at the battery and guess it is big enough for 80% of the users and don't have to improve anything.

They need the time for preparing Facebook for iPad3 and iPhone5.

IMHO i think all the drain is about advertising (iAd) so the phone works for the surveillance of the user (locations service, app traffic and keywords, safari bookmarks and sites) - this is the reason why the users can't shutt it off - also Apple can't/want to shut it off because the avarice of ca$h is higher then few angry users.
