I have the exact same issue since 10.7.2 on a MacBook Pro: DVD player crashes within seconds of opening a dvd.
Same problem here! Ditto the two previous posts.
OK, problem solved! After upgrading to "Lion," I was still running an old, incompatible version of "Default Folder." Once I updated it to the very latest edition, all was well. Lesson learned.
Can you explain this in a bit more detail? I'm trying to help a friend with the same problem on his macbook pro. Seems to have quit working after upgrading to Lion.
Thanks.
As I stated in my previous post . . .
"OK, problem solved! After upgrading to "Lion," I was still running an old, incompatible version of "Default Folder." Once I updated it to the very latest edition, all was well. Lesson learned."
If other problems exist for your friend, I'm afraid I can't help. "Default Folder" was the source of my problem; updating it to the latest version (4.4.7) removed all difficulties.
I think dtsteele is asking for more details in regard to "Default Folder". By this you must mean the utility program Default Folder X, which is something you installed on your system, it's not included in OS X. I don't have the program, but I am experiencing the same DVD player crash. VLC works, but DVD player crashes as soon as it starts. Still no fix.
Thanks.
That is correct. I've determined that Default Folder X won't be the problem on my friend's MB Pro since they don't use the application. They are off for some One on One time with Apple to get to the bottom of this apparent upgrade problem with Lion.
On a personal note, my MB Air is not able to make use of the Remote Disc feature. I'm not sure if this might be network related as I only see the MacPro drive occassionally and am never able to make a full connection to share Word files on a CD etc.
I'll work on this more after xmas.
Happy Holidays!
My DVD Player was doing the same thing after I upgraded to LION. Come to find out all I needed to do was restart my Mac and everything worked just fine! Hope this will help if someone else runs into the same problem.
Cheers!
