Had this problem of the iPhone screen freezing again yesterday.

A friend of mine sent me a text and I was receiving the same text over and over again. Then, afer about 10 times the same SMS, the whole phone just froze up and I was able to unfreeze it by holding the Home button.

    This is getting seriously annoying...

When the iPhone crashes, locks up in a way that prevents it from being turned off, or just isn't working as it should (you'd be surprised at how many problems or strange behaviors can be solved by a simple reset) you need to reset the iPhone. Here's how:

    1. Begin by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the Home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time.
    2. Hold them both until you see the screen go black. In some cases, you may need to keep holding them even after the red power-off slider appears. If it appears, just keep holding it.
    3. Wait until the silver Apple logo appears.
    4. When this happens, you can let go - the iPhone is rebooting.

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to  start. This usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If  still not ON, connect to Wall Charger and Reset, this can take about 20  seconds of holding both buttons.

None of the suggestions have worked for my phone.  Resetting it doesn't work.  It think I'm going to have to bring it in to the Apple store and have them check it out.
