icloud smtp server outage affecting ios devices

fyi.. I just spent the last 40 mins on hold waiting for apple support.. they confirmed that there is an outage affecting the smtp servers supporting icloud for ios devices

despite what it says here: there is a service outage..

this may be obvious to everyone else out there, but, don't be fooled by the other workarounds - they're likely to get you into more trouble when the icloud mail service gets back to normal, & more likely coincidental as the servers are going up/down..

so hold tight - hopefully apple will actually update the icloud status page with real information & an ETA for resolution

sorry - no answers, but, i too spent 2 days resetting 3 different devices wondering what was going on too, so hope this is helpful to some of you..
